Mol'Rihan Ground fighting

I am dying virtually every time I engage Tal' Shiar on the ground. I have top level gear. What am I doing wrong? It's to the point I'm not even bothering with consumables.. wasted expense. Is there a ground fighting tutorial? or some dodge trick I'm missing?

Dodge does not work, you'll still take damage even while rolling, sometimes it'll go DODGE then still take damage right next to the word. Sadly this is normal ground combat, your shield means nothing when it gets stripped from one shot from NPC usually it takes half your life too.

I don't have top gear though and so it's often me dying to one hit by most ground guys, and is so bad I don't even bother unless I can grab a friend just to finish the ground missions.

Oh and another thing on the dodge, it pauses so you'll see a grenade circle ontop of you, double tap to dodge out of the way and it won't move till the grenade hits you then you'll roll... Very annoying this is especially annoying in the Voth battlegrounds where I forget that dodge doesn't work and attempt to dodge and get nothing and flop over..

Tal Shiar mobs drop thaloron drones and mines. When you get hit by these, it almost always results in instant death. Try staying clear of the mine as it activates and shoot down the drones when they deploy immediately.

The hidden dodge mechanic is crouch. While you are crouching, you have a 50% chance to evade ranged attacks but take substantially more damage from melee attacks.

But watch out for those mines too. :(

Try to spread out your awaytem, so you can get in and do some flanking damage. I always try to take out the weakest first, so firepower can be focused on the remaining tough opponents.

Did you spend skill points on ground and do you have Mk X or above high quality ground gear for you and your bridge pfficer?

Is your BOff trained in 4 ranks of ground abilities?

Are you trying to flank enemies and use expose/exploit? What kind of kit are you using?

Against enemies like the dinos and tal shiar, move, always be moving. It protects against orbital/mortors as well as thalaron mines.

I have an idea for what Season 11 should be; Season 11: The Big Bug Fix.
I have not been able to read my bug tickets in over a year, not even the tickets about not being able to see my tickets.
I find the drama of your signature proof of your immaturity, this means you, DR whiners.

Don't pick fights with more than two Tal Shiar at a time. Better yet, try to fight them when it's just one-on-one. Unless you're teaming with someone or there is one or more FED or KDF or Romulans willing to temporarily team up against the Tal Shiar. There are ways to avoid fighting the Tal Shiar ... think like a thief. Thieves don't do frontal assault. They sneak around.

Of course, if you do the mission to go to the Tal Shiar base near the Mountain Pass area, try not to go straight up the pathway. Stick to the sides whenever possible, retreating at times to get out of range and to heal, and if there's cover around, use it. I use consumable large shields and consumable large hypos (usually stockpiling 40 of each per boff and 100 of each per character). This isn't cheap and takes up hold space, but it's always worth it. I don't bother with small shields or small hypos, and usually not the medium ones either. As my oldest brother told me 25 years ago, "You get what you pay for." Buy cheap, get cheap quality.

In my opinion, though, the Tal Shiar (at least on "normal" setting) are far easier to fight than the Tholians are (especially the Tholian Commanders and Tholian Captains).

first rule in my book of combat, if the toughest enemy wont go down to direct fire, knock out the support pins from beneath it and try again. be it from mobs or enemy skills. buffs, debuffs, killing mobs. which ever works best on counter.

    Some general ground advice:
    • I avoid shooter mode, I find RPG mode to be much easier. YMMV
    • Learn to use Aim and Crouch
    • Learn to use Expose and Exploit
    • Find a kit that has multiple abilities you're likely to use
    • Seriously, kit abilities you don't use are worse than boff abilities you don't use. A waste of space
    • Take boff(s) that can heal you and debuff the enemy
    • Take different weapons- I like to take a long-range gun and a short-range gun

And some more specific advice for fighting the Tal Shiar on New Romulus:
    • Kill the Centurion Medic first
    • Kill the Centurion Medic first
    • Kill the Centurion Medic first
    • If you see a Thalaron drone, kill it quick
    • If you see a Thalaron mine, run away quick

Ok, I definitely need to get that ground tutorial I've been working on offline copied to STO wiki as soon as possible. There are so many players that do not understand basic ground combat mechanics.

The ground combat Dodge mechanic does not work like the space combat Accuracy/Defense mechanic. Everything in the game rolls a dodge chance when dealt damage. By default, everything has a 0% chance to dodge an attack. Dodge is increased with gear (Omega set, Shattering harmonics set, gambling device) and also stances (rolling (100%), running (75%), crouching (50%)). If a target has a 100% chance to dodge, then the target will always roll a dodge when damaged. The damage against a target is instantly cut in half, before application to relevant shield or health damage resistances.

Also, it IS possible to destroy the mines before they explode, but running is usually easier.

I like to have an eng boff with turrets. Enemies sometimes decide to kill the turrets first. It makes for a nice distraction. My best luck on ground here was actually with a double eng team. TURRETS EVERYWHERE!!!!!
