Neutral ships!

To supplement the Mercenary outfits, add neutral ships.

I was looking through the Zen store and got to thinking about the Mercenary outfit. I have seen requests to make it available to the KDF side, and I agree that it, or something similar, should be available across the board.

This line of thinking led me onto the thought that in the TV series we can see that there are a lot of other types of starships beyond the fleet ships (Starfleet, Klingon and Romulan Empires). It seems that many of the member worlds still use their own ship designs for non-fleet purposes, such as planetary defence, civilian transports and so forth. We have come across this in most of the series (Mudd in TOS, Okona in TNG and Kasidy Yates in DS9 - although they both flew freighters) as well as a number of member world ship designs. Apparently, both the Vulcans and Andorians have their own fleets, just like the Orion and Gorn.

Before anybody gets any ideas, I?m not proposing a ?neutral faction? or any such silliness (besides, we already have the Romulans). What I am proposing is this:

Add a set of Tier 4 neutral ships to the Zen store. Start by modelling them on the ?Alien? ships in the list of NPC ships (bottom of the page here: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Non-playable_starship ). Make one Escort, one Cruiser and one Science vessel, and take a leaf from the Klingon Birds of Prey to let them have a couple of all-purpose BOff slots. That way they?ll be more adaptable. (Why Tier 4? Well, most of the Tier 5 ships have some special console or other fancy effects, but I feel that that sort of thing should be reserved for the main faction fleets, so making a planetary fleet or civilian ships equal to them seems pointless)

Then, over time, add a couple of ship costume packs for them, making their design even more flexible. The costumes should be fairly cheap, maybe 4 - 600 Zen or so, to avoid scaring people off the sales.

Then make a ?Mercenary? outfit for the KDF, make these sets available also to the Romulans who are affiliated with whichever faction, and allow all characters AND BOffs access to the off duty uniforms.

With this you will have laid the foundation for extended roleplaying opportunities, as players will be able to act as, say, part of a member world fleet, or civilian contractors, smugglers, pirates or any number of other things. I fully understand that this is not the main focus of this game, which is why I?m not suggesting adding any mission content or stuff like that (we already have Drozana and Nimbus, after all). And like I said, no neutral faction. All players would still be affiliated with one of the main factions and have access to their ports and other areas, this is simply a cosmetic / RP idea. You already have many of the basics.

    Would be nice.

And since Z-Store hips need special gimmicks to be desirable, and it makes littles ense to add special console to ships being essentially second-rate junks, maybe every of these ships would be equipped with ship selector NCP?

Not with exchange or any other Tuffli/Suliban cell ship features (to not making these two obsolete), but just with ship selector.

For switching to "serious" ships for a more challenging gameplay.

It should be noted that I fly Tier 4 ships on most of my toons, and they are perfectly viable for most of the non-elite gameplay. One of the main reasons I didn't suggest these ships for Tier 5 is, as I mentioned, that the main focus of STO is what happens to members of the faction fleets, and I suppose that the developers might not want to see whole player fleets made up of these non-faction ships. Can't be too sure, though, what with all these Breen and Jem'hadar ships flying about...

I am aware that the group of players who would get one of these ships isn't a great majority, but I do believe that it could be financially viable to make them.
