What's inside the gambling device?

askatusaskatus Member Posts: 157 Arc User
So I bought myself a gambling device from the exchange to give me a boost fighting Voth in the battlezone. But I can't help wondering... underneath the chrome and blinky lights... is it just me, or is that a tribble in there ?

yes its a mechanized tribble indeed.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    Rozencrantz and Guildenstern, flipping coins.

(Don't look in the box, because Schroedinger.)
Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.

Assuming it's the same device as the ones in DS9 (it strongly resembles them), it probably can't be a tribble.

The device was seen in Rivals (DS9 s2e11). At this time tribbles were extinct in the wild following the Great Tribble Hunt culminating in the KDF obliterating Geminorum IV. They weren't reintroduced until s5e6 when one was brought back from the past and multiplied out of control all over DS9 (and presumably was seeded throughout the quadrant by unwitting freighter traffic).

A hamster on a wheel, powering a probability machine.

Similar to what powers STO's servers :P
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

we don't know what is inside, but it is definitely made of standard materials, since Martis was able to copy it with a standard cardassian replicator. he put the original in, and told it to copy and enlarge. the original was taken off a drunk that died in a holding cell so who knows where it came from...

[tells askatus exactly what's in the gambling device, in minute detail]

    Cool, huh?

Oh, and speaking of chrome and blinky lights- look into this red light here for a moment-

    **FLASH**

...and as I was saying, you're a very lucky fellow. Not too many people survive insulting a Klingon like you did. You were out for a good 5 minutes.

These are all very compelling theories but I still think there's a tribble in there. Maybe some kind of quantum Schroedinger's tribble that's both alive and dead at the same time. When you activate the device it checks to see if the tribble is currently alive or dead and you are either happy and buffed up or sad and debuffed. Since you're happy for a lot longer than you are sad I guess people don't really care about dead tribbles all that much. Especially not Klingons.

except it would be backwards for klingons, if it were alive the klingons would be sad and if it were dead they wou;ld be happy. so that would mean that the proc rates would be reversed for klingons.
