Scenario time: J.J Abrams tweets you and tells you in his next Star Trek film, he will have the TNG Enterprise make a cameo appearance. Catch is, they are the TNG of his universe and he wants YOU to pick the new cast. And for added incentive, if you attempt to back out, he will outsource the casting to Uwe Boll. Who do you pick?

Ground rules:

1. You cannot pick the old cast. They have to be all new people.

2. For simplicity sake, it's only the bridge crew you have to cast. No Doc Crusher, Wesley, Guinan or anything.

3. It's the first season Bridge crew. Tasha Yar is still alive.

    I cannot think of anyone who would do Picard justice other than Sir Patrick.

    Jean-Luc Picard: If I can't have Patrick Stewart, then I have to go with his friend Ian McKellen. The role requires a certain gravitas, and McKellen's got that in spades.

    William T. Riker: John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harness on Doctor Who and Torchwood). He's a ladies' man. And a man's man. And whatever else you've got.

    Data: Michael Ealy (Dorian on Almost Human). It comes close to typecasting, but I think he could rock the role of an android trying to learn what it is to be human.

    Tasha Yar: Summer Glau, I think, can exude the requisite combination of beauty and toughness.

    Worf: This is going to take a while.

    Deanna Troi: This one, too.

    Geordi La Forge: Iain de Caestecker (Leo Fitz in Agents of SHIELD). He's shown that he can hold his own at rapid-fire technobabble already.

    Um, unless there's something pretty important you're not telling us, you're a Terran in this life. Using the nomenclature used for the other planets of the solar system, this one should properly be named Terra (for the Roman earth goddess, similar to Gaea in Greek mythology), and everyone from here is a Terran.

    Riker = Zachary Quinto with a beard

    Data = Zachary Quinto with facepaint and yellow contacts

    Geordi = Zachary Quinto with a visor

    Tasha Yar = Zachary Quinto with falsies

    Wish I knew what age you wanted the crew to be. I tried to put the younger crew in their low to mid 30s
