Had my first run through on Breach.

First, spent the entire time trying to catch up to everyone and shooting down hard points. Those jet streams just kept randomly catapulting me way away from the ship, so I avoided them. Don't know if you are meant to be in them.

Inside, we close the hanger doors. That's fine. I come up to a locked door and a boff is telling me there's a dreadnought. Ok, I fly all over the hanger trying to find out where my team went to get beyond this door. Can't find anything. I ask in team chat where I am meant to go. No reply. At all. Great. Thanks guys. Eventually find that door off to the side and make it to the dread just in time for it to explode.

Into the power core, everything is going fine. No issues there. Then it starts exploding, and I follow a teammate through the bottom left exit (I remember reading this was the way out). He randomly dissapears on me and I slam straight into a ceiling corner. what the hell? Where did that come from? I drop down to find where the escape route is but it's just floor. And my ship is getting stuck on walls. I try going round in circles to find the way out, but still just find myself trapped. Then I explode.

After I respawn outside, one of the guys on my team makes some daft comment about.... well I forget now, but it was something slagging off the Voth. Ok, so they do have team chat. Coulda used the help before guys.

Needless to say, I can't see me going back into that stf anytime soon.

Still need to try capture the spire at some point. I hope it's designed better.

Grylak that's pretty bad to not use the jet streams and get lost inside the thing.

Well I tested APB on KSAE, and it didn't stack more than it should have, so it must be a bug in regards to beam arrays or certain ships.

Though I'm pleased to know my scimitar is overpo... balanced.

More like a character based - I have it on 2 of the 3 I play regularly. The APBs stack on spheres, large structures and tactical cubes (regulars don't live long enough anyway to see if it stacks).

I've had issues if I bump into the stream on accident when trying to maneuver, but not often. I've never gotten stuck though, not even flying an Oddy with no [turn] did I get stuck inside when it blew.

As I said, first time in there and the team didn't talk once when I asked for help.

When I did enter those jet streams, every single time, I ended up getting flung over 30 km away from the ship at a right angle from the hull and took me ages to get back there. That's why I stopped going in them.

As for getting lost. Everything looks the same and I couldn't see any route. Just walls. And the person I was following out just dissapeared on me without warning.

Sorry to hear that. Mine was the converse. Kudos to Histral and the guys in that team, everyone said hi in the beginning, and Histral narrated everything needed to complete the mission with optional. Again kudos!

Not the worst per se, easy optional at about the 10 minute remaining mark, ISE.

One scrub comes in on a newbie Tliss warbird, just follows us around, doesnt even shoot anything.

Do people really try this hard to do nothing?

Yes... They work real hard to keep themselves from doing work . It's... frustrating sometimes.

I think ive possibly found the worst STF player in history today.

    Oddysey tactical cruiser, tactical captain.

Me in my PvP specced scibop with transphasics, tractors, and grav wells. Good guard, not much else but good guard. Anyway...

    KASE

I was on the left, he was guarding the right.

After a while I look up and notice 6 probes have gone through, and was like WTF???!!

So I go over and notice he is really struggling with 4 probes at once. (judging by the fact 6 had already gone through, he had likely struggled since the first trans went down)

I grav well them and kill three, leaving one at 50 percent, and go to pop their gate as quick as I can. (that sides DPS guy was pretty competent, had it down to 15 percent)

After the gate pops, about 20 seconds later, I see that same probe, now at 23 percent, and end up killing it with maybe 2 seconds left before it warps out.

    .... how?

Y'know, no, I don't know how this could happen. Only thing I can think of is he's the kind of guy whose set up for cannon ships and never set up his layout for it.

Of course, I'm being nice here.

    ElitePublicSTF can be very sketchy.

A CSE where they go "RML" instead of MRRMLL - that means we have enough DPS to do it that way, right?

We blow the R cube, head M, and Kang dies. What.

I'm logging and recording everything so I have can evaluate the experimental proton weapon when I unlock it, so I check my parser - I did 60% of the damage. If I hadn't been there, they probably wouldn't have managed to take out the first cube.

    Ugh.

Yeah theres been a wave of returning and poorly set up players in PESTF lately. Im sure they will catch up eventually, but its been kinda hit or miss ive noticed.

Just a month ago every running game in there was a guarantee to have 2-3 11k+ dps guys on your team, now its kinda... lucky to get even one.

By far the worst STF experience I've ever had happened last night. Reason? Self inflicted. Purchased a Bort earlier this week for my lead Klink toon. Tactical version. Waited to use it until I had enough Dil, EC, and Marks to outfit it properly. So I ran ISE with it. KDF queues take awhile to pop sometimes, but ISE is usually pretty quick. Dinking about waiting for the 'Engage' button and then it catches me just as I am taking a sip of coffee.

    mmm...coffee.

Click Engage and away we go. To my horror, I had forgotten to check my tray to make sure all the things were just where I like them and the keybinds were set up as they should be. I also discovered I had failed to load any consumables. They were all back in the shipyard or the bank. I am gimped badly and it is all my fault. I somehow managed to stagger about and kill one generator and help with killing the transformer on the right. The surviving spheres promptly blew me out of the stars. Twice. So now I am gimped and damaged. With little help from me, the team completed the Optional with about 4 minutes remaining and then blew the Tac Cube about three minutes left.

I then had to listen to a series about complaints about how I play STO and random speculation about my ancestry, intelligence and computer choice. One helpful individual suggested a final destination which is most definitely not the one I want. Too warm there. And I could say nothing at all in reply. Because they were right.

Please take that extra minute or two after you purchase a new ship to ensure that all the particulars are exactly as you want them to be. It was a rookie mistake and very very embarrassing.

Guess the afk penalty scared some but now in at least three out of ten ESTF's , I usually get someone on the team that uses no abilities at all.. just flies around on auto-fire. parsing around 1k or lower..

That was also pretty bad. Knowing what to do and how to do it and not being able to do so because of failing to do the correct preparation. As to the leaver penalty, I don't like it when someone bails on a PUG team, so I'm not doing that either. I might suck and in this case I really sucked. But every shot those Spheres took at me meant they were not shooting at people who were actually contributing to the successful completion of the STF.

I've never been scared of the so called AFK Penalty, which has worked out the way I thought it would when pwe/cryptic announced it. This is because I am not an AFKer.

When people want to do RML in CSE instead of 3 1 1, when you have a player on your team with over 20K DPS who can take out a cube set faster then the other 3 put together.

I want to say that i give VERY VERY high respect and kudos to this post. Admitting an experience - even if it is a negative one - publicly - so that others may learn from a mistake is probably THE best use of a forum. 98% of the time the reason I end up on a forum is looking for answers when I am struggling, and when i was a newbie fresh to STO, this post would have helped me out a lot.

Sorry to hear the other teammates were so harsh on you, even if it was your fault, but it takes a lot of balls to post this, and so I give my thanks to you as a fellow player.

    ....................................................

These things happen. I personally have no problem carrying someone who forgot something that F*s his STF - it's kind of normal - as simple as it is, there are some things that needs to be done when changing ships - equipping it (cause there are always some little things that you can have 1 of), setting up BOFFs, power levels.....and sometimes, you have forgotten to press the "ready ship" button. I had a teammate in ISE in that situation last night. He apologized at the start and thanked us for carrying him at the end. Honestly I'd rather carry such people than the ignorant "experts"....and the story begins......and no, it's not as horrifying as the encounter I had with 4 obelisks in CSE.
ISE. 4 tactical captains and me - science captain in my DPS carrier. I carried them. I'm not sure if they had more than 3-4k each, because the transformers went down as fast as I take them down alone in KASE. And they shot at the spheres first....so maybe that's why.
Next: KASE. Same thing happens - 4 tactical captains in various ships....I think the optional was gone, but that's not really important. One thing I've learned so far I think is...that it's very difficult for people to ask for help or advice on how to improve their game....because it's hard for me to believe that in any fleet channel when someone asks a question, there aren't at least 2-3 people ready to answer at any given time.

Thank you both for the flowers. :D I posted what I did so maybe someone else can read it and avoid such a boneheaded mistake. I play STO for enjoyment and it is much more enjoyable when I am playing well and doing my part to ensure the successful completion of whatever I am doing at the time. I did not enjoy myself in this one.

On to new business. KVE. Not one but two Gal-X SkittleBoats. A Kumari Escort and I think it was a Wells class but I am not sure. I was flying the Kamarag I got from the Temporal Ambassador episode initial run. The one which is available now isn't nearly as good. The one I was flying is about halfway between that one and the Fleet version.

In Khitomer I usually backstop the Vortex and assist with wayward Cubes because it is easier to have one person do the one thing than to try and do two things at once. The Cubes can be a handful if someone is just about to drop the transformers and wandering over to support can often draw a Cube off of someone long enough for them to heal and get back in the fight. Most people will shoot a Probe or two en passant. The leakers and their Sphere Escorts really do require someone assigned to them. Normally post something like, "I guard Vortex" in the Chat Window as well.

I was flabbergasted when the SkittleBoats ganked (and I do mean ganked) the Tac Cube in about a minute and a half. "Great!" I thought. "Somebody built one of those the right way. Good deal."

This is where it all began to go wrong. One Gal-X went right and one went left. Whatever they did to the Cube they apparently forgot how en route to the gateways. The Wells would shoot a generator and then shoot the gate and then shoot something else. The Kumari may have been trying out a new build because it stayed on the right long enough for the Cubes to kill it and then spent it's time chasing them round.

The Gal-X on the left finally did enough damage to draw the Cube out and I moved to assist. "NO! I got this!" he typed. Okay, but I'm just trying to get close enough to throw a heal or two on him. The Kumari moved in on the same Cube and they then proceeded to argue about who was going to kill the Cube. Long enough for the Cube to kill them both. yay. So I finish the Cube, kill off the probe wave and then go back on station to watch the probes from the gate on the right. The Kumari left the game after this. The left Gal-X left shortly thereafter. And the three of us remaining spent about a minute sorting through what just happened. The Wells player posted a tirade about noobs and then he left. So naturally, the right Gal-X now leaves as well. All by myself waiting waiting waiting for somebody, anybody to show up. Not gonna quit if I can help it. Half the generators are down and the probe waves are being managed. Not easily but being managed.

No one showed up and after what seemed a very long time, I left too. Disappointing but it felt bad to quit. Even if doing so was justified in this case.

Not the worst STFE ever, but at least worthy of a facepalm.

Vortex Elite today, we killed cube and i called right probe guard.
I proceed to do my job and take out cube in process. In a quiet moment i do a headcount and see 4 right, 1 left.

The one on the left was on far left and ignoring the probes all together.

So i called side switch and hurried to the left. Only 2 slipped though before i arrived.

I wonder why it is such a challenge for people to do guard duty on the probes.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

When I tried to probe guard in an Oddy I had boat loads of trouble. I was not in a fleet and had no fleet gear and was struggling to get my damage up. The ship is meant to survive, not vapourize.
My experiences struggling with probes is why I am an Atrox capain now.

Even without fleet or reputation gear you can easily get a build for stf.
Easiest thing to come to mind is JH space set + Dominion Polaron Beam Array.

Or simply replay http://sto.gamepedia.com/Mission:_Past_Imperfect a few times.

I'll be blunt: it annoys me when people use lack of reputation or fleet gear as a reason why they cannot perform in stf.

This week i took my nebula give-away for a spin in nothing but mission gear and cheap SC/turrets from the exchange. More than sufficient for STF or Voth encounters.

I played the old STFs till I had the three pieces of the borg set. Two gravity wells, and a torpedo I could spread or over load. I could hold a line of probes with borg set weapons and concentration. One I got those elite fleet guns I can park and take out probes and intrigued spheres, and break up nanite generators. If people warn me that they are not blocking the other vortex I can stop both sides if I have to. Point is the Oddy was not a great ship for that job. Crowd control like that needs control skills you either can't slot or have trouble slotting. or a lot of firepower for very fast kills. Oddy has been a good ship for my engineer. But I would not volunteer for gate duty with her.

Oh and to be on OP. My worst experience was back in the last Crystal Catastrophe.

Rom/sci in my nice new orb weaver. I have never done this mission and no one answered me about what to do. I tried getting in to blast the entity, to taking out tholians, to just shooting down the flying shards in hopes of keeping anyone else alive out there. Sadly none of it worked and slowly the entire force quit. I left that mission and will not replay it again.
