New Player Question

I know this might have been answered somewhere but I couldn't find it anywhere so here is my question.
I just reached Lt.Commander and got my new ship(a cruiser). It has a slot for a new ensign but I cant seem to get one to fill the slot, new bridge officers just want to retrain all of my existing officers. is the slot unlocked later or do I need to buy the officer or how do I fill that slot??

    If I understand your question right, you have other bridge officers but all they do when you click them to try to use them they ask you if you want to train your other officers. On that screen should be three options:

    1: Train
    2: Join
    3: not now

    If you do join they will join your crew and you will be able to assign them to bridge officer slots.

    There are three bridge officer ensign stations on a cruiser. one for each class i.e. sci, eng & tac. there is also a LT engineering station.

    I think what is happening in your case is that you may not have the right bridge officer class to fill a empty station. for example you have 4 bridge officers 2 tac, 1 eng, 1 sci. On a cruiser two tac bridge officers can't be used because there is only one tactical station.

    What you need to make sure is that you have two engineering bridge offers, one at ensign rank and the other at LT rank, one science bridge officer and one tactical bridge officer.
