Looking for carrier information

Hey all, just need some quick questions answered about carriers!

Simply put, are they worth it? I've tried searching youtube for gameplay of them and google for builds but everything is so terribly dated it's impossible to get a good representation of one.

I know they were nerfed in some way, but are they still viable? The only two carriers I'm interested in are the Atrox and the Jem'Hadar Dreadnaught. Both look fantastic and minus the Jem'hadar's difficult in obtaining (800 lobi is going to take a loooong while....) both are within relative reach.

Also, Captain skill point builds? Not entirely sure if being a Tac officer matters in a Carrier or not. I don't mind rerolling if it means a better endgame experience (Level 50 now and enjoying it but having trouble finding my niche) Escorts just die too quickly and the fact no Cruiser outside of C-Store has a commander Tac Boff is depressing.

Also, the Romulan carrier Warbirds; are they any good?

Thanks for any infrmation all, really appreciate it.

Considering you are a tactical captain, I'd say the JHDC is the one for you,

It's a very tactically focused, and has some tanking power. However, It's pets are pretty naff so you would be better off replacing them with Peregrines, or even better Elite Scorpions from t5 romulan reputation.

If you go for the JHDC, you shouldn't need to respect - As it's pretty viable with torpedoes/beams/cannons
Two words of warning about the JHDC though :

1.) You MUST HAVE the player version to of the Jem Hadar Attack Ship (Unboxed) to be able to use them as hanger pets. Otherwise you will not be able to purchase them.

2.) If you want a carrier aesthetic feel, Get the atrox. It has two hanger bays under each 'wing' and the pets launch out of there. However, The JHDC hanger pets just appear outside the bridge (Very lazily done - Imo)

Whilst you make your choice/save up for either i would recommend playing "Sphere of Influence" - Up untill december something (5th?) It awards a free carrier that has 2 hanger bays. It might help you get a feel for carriers on a tactical captain and see if you like it or not!

Hope this is useful to you!

Edit : Don't know much about the Romulan carriers, although i would imagine it's pretty similar to the HEC on the Federation side

I have a tactical officer helming an Atrox Carrier. I do very well with it. I play only PVE, and in that arena, it does extremely well.

With the boff layout, the JDC does offer more for a tactical officer, but as you say, obtaining one is not easy. This is why I went with the Atrox and have not regretted it. The ship looks like a carrier. It may be the only carrier that looiks the part with clearly marked landing strips for the fighters. With perigrine fighters, you can easily destroy targets. I would recommend using all beams. and broadside as much as possible. With six beams and 12 fighters tearing apart ships, the battles do not last long.

just get yourself the Obelisk carrier, its free once you complete the new featured episode. This way you get a feel for a full carrier without having to spend money. If you like it then move on to others like a atrox carrier or the JHDC
