Immersion requests.

michlomichlo Member Posts: 95 Arc User
Greetings,

I really love so much about this game. Sure, there are flaws but there are plenty of threads on those. Season 8 brought us polished looking consoles at last. I really appreciated that.

Here are just a few (hopefully simple) requests that would also help with immersion.

1) Fire the DJs! I can't believe that this far into the future we must listen to the same, repetitive, short beat anywhere that music is played. Give us some variety please. In the same vein, the Klingons really need to learn a few more songs.

2) What on earth are the NPCs doing who are smashing their fists into panels? As a kid my parents tried to fix our old telly by beating on it but I think we've progressed slightly. There is even one at the Exchange on SB 39. Is she just incredibly upset at losing a sale?

3) Can you code in a check for who we have with us on our away teams? It is rather jarring to have someone who is right next to us hail us from the ship and vice versa, someone up on the ship speak as though they are with us.

4) Please give us the option to NOT be affected by dance effects. It is ridiculous that someone can mind control us into dancing against our will. Forget beams, cannons and torpedos, this is the only weapon any enemy really needs!

5) The artwork on planets is just gorgeous. Could you put in a check, though for the sounds? A few times I've visited planets which are giving beach sounds..... with no water anywhere to be seen.

6) NPCs should not just continue standing, walking around, chatting whilst there are battles going on right alongside them. Defera springs to mind here.

7) If you are going to have an NPC speak then please have it be more than the first line of their dialogue.

8) If we're beaming up with a prisoner then please try to ensure he's not standing there, left behind as the rest of us beam up. I should think that would make it rather easy to escape.

9) For some reason, all of the Bridge crew aboard Michlo's Vesta are sitting right on the edge of their seats. Michlo is my nice fella, they really shouldn't be that scared.

These small changes would go a long way to improving experiences.

Fellow players, please feel free to add your own.

Cheers.

    Good ideas!

The only real immersion request i can think of is perhaps more ambient music based on factons. For example, The current sector space drumbeat fits KDF well i feel (Sounds like a war drum?) Perhaps the Fed's could get something more akin to the TV themes perhaps?

And yes, that's a good idea too. :)

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I agree with especially point 7.

As visually impaired i can play the game pretty much to the fullest but the only thing that makes trouble is reading that stuff. I cant see well enough to read that small text and scaling interface enough just enlarges everything else too big as well.

I would also add the option to choose the size of our away teams and perpahps in the future, to leave captain aboard and go with first officer instead.

And yet the Breen grenade was turned off for EXACTLY that reason..

Anyone else see a double standard there?

    Yes, please.

The same treatment Breen cryo grenade was given.

I don't care about immersion, but it's just annoying.

Yeah, it is. At least that's what one might think of a game that is supposedly centered around storytelling.

Here's a thought... maybe disable the effects within proximity of banks, exchanges... those places where players are required to be in order to conduct their affairs.

Or maybe sell some z-store consumables that allow another player to blast those disco balls like clay pigeons.

Yeah all of these ideas are great and should be fixed, like when you have other factions on your boff crew and they all use their own factions transporters. I, being the captain of my ship, was not informed when I took on a federation bridge officer that they would require a federation transporter room installed on my ship! As a matter of fact when I decided to ally with the federation no where in that conversation was I informed that I would have to take on federation bridge officers as part of my crew!

The main problem I see with all of this is the FACT that this game is no longer "story telling and immersion into the story" it is with the release of Season 8 very obvious that all of the writers on the development team have been fired or laid off because Season 8 has no story content what so ever.

Not to mention that there is so much material missing from where the Featured Episode with Worf left off to where we are now in the Sphere, that if this was a novel Cryptic's editor would be calling asking where the missing material is because we can't possibly publish with what they have supplied!

In addition, changes to all ability effects to make them feel immersive and still feel and look freat.

Rotating circles around ship, those same that come in scanning and beam from deflector when scannign are just few examples of wrong effects. Another is sci/tac/eng teams, beaming sound when you use them in your own ship? Rotating circles around ship on teams wtf? Shield transfer is borderline.

I feel some effects have too much similarity to "spell" effects, this is wrong since all that happens is technical and physical. Beams, deflector dish cones and right sounds would do better. Overload beam and rapid fire, torpedo spread/hi yield are examples of right effects (Big plasma turtle balls counted out)

Effects should have more techy feeling on them in overall and leave stuff that dont belong to them away or optional if someone wishes to use them as tools of efficiency.

For the dancing, if that continues to exist. Make it feel more real and have Vulcans die from it or at least immune. Forcing Vulcan to dance is cruel and unusual form of torture.

I think people annoyed with ability given to other players to control your characters into dancing (and developers in MMO should remember to never give player ability to hi-jack other players characters outside of things like PvP and crowd control) should just submit tickets every time when it happends.

If there is enough tickets to show PWE/Cryptic it's a bad idea to have it ingame, they may change it.

    Forum posts aren't the way.

And this ^^ is one of the reasons why it takes so long for other players to get a response to real problems.

You post on a public forum and are offended by a public answer? Next time, how about you just send the Devs a freaking e-mail.

I don't like any of your "immersion" ideas, because I think their time would be better spent on developing newer content and expanding the type of gameplay STO currently has. I don't give two figs about a popup window from the guy standing next to me or that a discoball makes me want to shake my rump.

While I have your attention, consider removing the build links from your signature, they are rather embarrassing and give bad advice to players that don't know any better.

Far as immersion, how bout letting us decide the uniforms for our ENTIRE CREW. I mean it's annoying to have my character and bridge officers in one uniform and my entire crew in something else.

Cause I thought the idea was UNIFORMITY. Not to look pretty.

For me, my immersion is about walking around my ship like a BOSS.
(This is not a complaint, and for best results this post should be read in a happy voice. )

That being said, I would love to see revamped Federation ship interiors. I would also like to have the conference room (seen on some missions) included on my ship interior map, as well as a shuttle bay. (note: I understand new ship interiors are being planned?)

I love my Kumari ship, but I loathe the shuttle craft quality ship interior that comes with it. I understand that the bridge was deliberately designed to be faithful to the television show, but it would be nice to either have ...

    a) an expanded Andorian ship interior, which would cost money to do, or

    b) the option to use another ship interior that I might purchase, which would generate money.

(in other words, thank you sincerely for including a unique bridge, but I would prefer having the option to choose. Please consider unlocking the Andorian ship interior. I cannot see how this would cost a lot of money to implement, and it might drive sales on bridge packs.)

Someone else mentioned having the generic crew in the same uniform as my bridge crew (see talonxv's post above), and I will second that request.

Can we remove the Master System display from some of the bridge interiors? It interferes with the immersion of using that particular bridge with a particular ship. I request this as I understand that it would be very difficult to program the system to use the MSD that matches the ship my bridge is attached to, so perhaps having an option to turn on or off the MSD would be nice.

Remove the window in the Captain?s ready room. Some bridge layouts have it facing inwards which would make the window placement impossible.

And.. I think that about covers things for the moment.

If you have not done the new tutorial yet, i sugggest you do. In ship part you get to see some piece of new interior and a bridge of the same style as well. The bridge is allready available free for every Federation ship.

I think the overall look of those are great if somewhat too large, however they are made in the way that they seem to be lot smaller than they are :)

And if you have Academy uniform, i suggest you dress up as 4th year cadet of your career to get best immersion.

    Thank you for the replies.

    Let's keep the ideas coming.

For the dancing, note I said the OPTION to switch it off. MMOS cater to many different people, giving those people options makes the game stronger and more successful.

As for my build links, you can sneer all you want but the main priority for me is having fun. I am doing so. I also always come in the top three of Elite STFs and have little difficulty on my story missions set on elite so they can't be that horrible.

You know what they say about opinions.....

I remember similar objections over involentary emotes in Lord of the Rings Online, and forced emotes were eventually made toggleable. While it doesn't bother me much personally (since unlike LotR forced emotes, you can still walk away), I agree that it should be toggleable.

The difference here is that, unlike LotRO, you aren't forced to stay in place for the duration of the emote/animation. In STO, you have the ability to walk away, change instances, etc. at anytime during the disco ball's duration. It's not being "forced" upon anyone, nor are you losing any measure of control over your character.

The difference isn't really relevant. We ARE forced to see our characters do something we didn't order. Sure we RP'ers are few and far between these days but we are still here and it is an immersion breaker (even for non RP'ers I'm sure).

Again, all I'm asking for is the OPTION. If you're fine with it then carry on dancing against your will.

One of the greatest things that could be done for emersion would be full voice overs. Give us a choice of 3 or 4 voices both male and female to select for the characters and select random ones for bridge officers, That would be a great move and definitely improve the playing experience,

I don't look for "immersion" when I play STO anymore. The game is far too nonsensical for that.

In order to be more aestetically pleasing, however, how about using the "Odyssey" style uniform as the new standard uniform for Starfleet personnelk across the board? It's especially annoying in the battlegrounds when you capture a point and your reinforcements have vastly different styles of uniforms all over the place. Just let them use the Odyssey variant you use in the promo for that exact ingame content, it would add a lot to the overall "feel" of the game.

And I know of the, again, nonsensical ingame explanation that "Starfleet removed the uniform code". That's stupid. You don't have to explain basic marketing/gameplay functions with nonsensical "story" bits. We know that nobody would play an MMO where he or she isn't allowed to make his outlandish, ugly as sin outfit to glorify his or her individuality (even in a franchise like Star Trek where said uniforms had a very strong effect without toning down anyones worth as a individual). We get that, you don't have to explain it. Let at least have the NPCs some form of consistensy.

Such an "option" would render the disco ball a useless item. I am against removing utility from the game.
