Dyson Battlezone Feedback

I'll start off by saying that I love this feature. Definitely the most fun ground experience in STO, and possibly one of the best experiences in the game as a whole. That said, I think there's a few tweaks that could be made to make it even better.

Swarmers
They keep things interesting, but I get annoyed to tears when I just can't focus on the task at hand because the are so many of them coming in so rapidly. All you'd need to do is give their spawn rate a tiny little nerf, and I would be a happy Admiral.

Reinforcements at Transporter Points
These are some of the most important points to keep under allied control, as they ensure a team's ability to rapidly deploy wherever they are needed. So why the heck can't we call reinforcements at them?

"Artillery Who?"
So you're in the think of battle when you start seeing the distinctive purple-and-green circles on the ground that indicate incoming artillery rounds. Being the ninja that you are, you easily step out of the blast zone... But your Bridge Officers just stand there like lumps on a log and promptly get blasted all the way back to the Alpha Quadrant. I'm not suggesting you give them Caitian reflexes as to make them immune to artillery, but c'mon, at least make it look like they're trying...

I think these would really help to make the experience more enjoyable than it already is.
For personal reasons, I've left Star Trek Online.

I can certainly agree on the swarmers.. especially the patrolling packs in the Park(which already has quite a few 'fun surprises' pathing around). They really slow down the action when you're moving between points(or while you're taking points like the artillery sites in the park).

The artillery can be a bit obnoxious as well - especially on the capture points that cover the entire area you have to stand for the countdown to apply, but it encourages you to divide and conquer strategic points first instead of blindly rushing from site to site.

My only real 'complaints', outside the need for 'instance' chat channels, are the specialists (that spawn, make a bee-line directly for you from halfway across a region and flank-shoot you right in the back at the worst possible moments) and when Spec Ops decide to chain-stun-lock-charge you to death without any chance to do anything about it. The latter is right up there with the stasis/photon mine combo Tholians use on my personal irritation meter.

I am enjoying the Battlezone as well. Currently there are two changes I'd like to see.

    1. I would like to have a set amount of command credits awarded each time I capture a point. Any number 5+ is better than not being able to get many at all.

And 2. Sometimes the Voth are a little too easy to beat. I'd like to see some tweaking of difficulty, especially for larger numbers of players at a capture point.

@ dinoyipi: I haven't yet experienced an overwhelming force of swarmers, sounds interesting. -- Better AI for both BOffs and Enemies would be great of course. :)

@ szerontzur: Instance chat would be convenient (not a priority for myself, though I am often teaming with fleetmates.) And maybe I should play solo more often, seems like a much bigger challenge. :)

    Swarmers
Can't agree more, either the spawn is too high or they're bugged in some areas. There is a spot in the city between the teleporter and an omega silo that seemed to have a single constantly spawning swarmer, closer to the omega silo area than the teleporter.

    Reinforcements at Teleporters
I have to agree as well. I'm sure it is intended as the security degrades even when a player is nearby, but the teleporters are pretty crucial. I've taken to policing them whenever I'm in an area in order to keep them open.

    Artillery
I'm kind of disappointed in bridge officer functionality in this map, the BOs seem to get stuck on the environment quite a bit and randomly seem to loose all health and die. I try to avoid the blasts when artillery is active by making use of the BO UI where you can set them to rally at a certain point, such as outside of the center circle area, but it would be nice if they avoided these as the NPCs avoid AoE attacks as well. The V-Rex tends to wipe out my BOs due to the huge mortar damage (does 400-800 before resists to me, ends up being ~200).

    _____________________________________________________

My main beef is the lack of a beam to command from anywhere, and easier access to the city's teleporter and the V-Rex area there, but those are rather minor I think.

I am actually loving the Battlezone. Yeah, what surprise. I guess it has that Defera feel. Overall, I am content with the battlezone. It doesn't feel like "Trek", but it definitely feels like a needed ground challenge. So here are few things I would like to see done to this arena.

    1. Put a transporter to the Joint Allied Command at the Battlezone Command. This is so needed to get access to the Bank, Exchange, and Mail. If we can be sent to the Battlezone from the Joint Allied Command, there is no reason not to have a simple way back for those on the ground.
    2. Put a lighted pathway to the T-Rex. There have been so many times that I have to wander around to get to a point that will allow me to get to the T-Rex area. Having a line guide would be extremely helpful so that I don't have to waste time walking into invisible and regular walls. We do have this for the "Bold They Rode" episode as well as few other ones.
    3. Award, rather than drop, Battlezone Coins. Sorry, but this isn't "Super Mario Brothers". Running around and obtaining those purple coins can be a challenge. You have coins dropping on places that are hard, if not impossible, to get to. I wouldn't even mine the coins if they could be grouped or placed in areas we can get to instead of being scatter through the cosmos.

Anyway, those are a few things I would like to see done to the zone. It is a great place to hangout and grind. It would be nice to get a bar down there. ;)

Boffs do actually move out of the mortar fire occasionally. But only when they aren't preoccupied with something else.... which, sadly, is most of the time.

What I like to see tweeked with the Battlezone:

    1) The Map to show ALL players in the Battlezone. So you know where the action is, if everyone is grouped together or someones AFK in the Command Center.

    2) Pink Balls of Dyson Credit gets removed and replaced with a Direct Credit system. Because people are fighting over these than being team players as this supposed to be.

    3) T-Rex health meters, to know if you got time to get to a T-Rex.

    4) As mentioned above, a Transport back to the Command Center, since it's a 1-way trip.

    5) Furiadon's Mortar attacks are 1-shot deaths compared to the T-Rex's.

    6) BOFF Transport To your Location when they are stuck.

    7) Accoaldes, actually provide a list of what you have already completed towards that accolade.

    8) Space Adventure zone, totally revise the system, it's boring. And I especially hate the moochers who kill the NPCs that was meant for you. So they get their daily completed, while you have to go find other missions to fill in the credit that should've went to you in the first place.

honestly? I don't bother with Dyson credits. Sure I can trade them for a few marks..... big whoop. I get more marks for capturing stuff.

Oh and I confirmed today that there IS an accolade for finding the data consoles in the ground battle zone. :D

You forget there is a mission that rewards Dilithium to players that complete missions with Dyson Battle Credits.

And yes there is many accolades with the Ground.

    7 Voth Crates
    8 Sphere Consoles
Mission that rewards it if you kill 60 Voth (though not sure how you can find a spot in the Battlezone that can spawn that many in that time frame. I got mine though a bug where Voth kept respawning infinitely at one location during them capturing a spot).

    Killing T-rexes
    Killing Minbosses

Yeah I ran into that bug.... I ended up collecting well over 400 command credits before I got bored and left.... Yeah there's a mission that requires you to get and use command credits, but it doesn't take a lot of credits. Once you're in CD they have no use besides summoning minions to fight in the zone for you. Which does have the side benefit of giving you a small amount of Dyson marks, but not much.

I have been having trouble with the new season 8 ground battlezone the first time in the Dyson Sphere on all of my level 50 characters I went through the episodes to get to the contested zone and the ground battle zone then I did the daily battlezone mission to get the commendation. The next day I went back and couldn't play the daily on any of my characters. On one of my characters the cool-down for the mission was showing but when it finished the mission was gone and I couldn't even find it on any of my characters. I tried to redo the episodes that led up to it. I also tried changing instances and beaming up then back down again but I still couldn't find the mission again. I was wondering if this problem has happened to anyone else or if there is something I have to do to play the ground battlezone daily mission that I haven't done. Any advice you could give me is helpful. Thanks.

I had this same exact issue. Here is the solution: Complete the hourly Kill Voth mission. The first time you play through Battlezone you have to do the 4 missions in sequence. When you finish the fourth one the dailies will appear.

    1. Have the artillary and the Voth mortar fire 2 seperate colors rather than both green and purple. When taking one of the spots you can kneel and ignore the artillary but if one of the mini boss shows up behind you and targets you with mortars of doom you wont know it until you are dead.

    2. Put the command credits inside the loot containers. 4-8 in white ones, 8-16 inside green, and 16-32 inside blue. Then have them inside those containers at a capture point and not in the random NPC's wandering about. People are entering capture points at the last moment and gathering them up when they didnt help capture and others are fighting for them in the wolf packs that run around. Inside the loot containers means you have to kill things to get them and if they are only at capture points means you have to work on capturing or defending one. Having them automaticaly pop into inventory is one more thing a leech will get and there are leechs running in the wolf packs that shoot 1 NPC because the NPC shot them first and call that helping.

    3. The ability to make a private instance as part of the fleet holding so a fleet can have 3 teams in the same instance without randoms. To start one you would need all 3 teams filled ofcourse and only team members can enter it. Once the zone resets after completing it, it becomes a public instance as players would only want to do it 1 time but the others may want to do it some more, randoms can now enter and join in the mayhem.

    4. Less swarmers about the place and make them random in the spots you would run across them. Sometimes they are there and other times they are not. Doing that is 100 times more exciting and less annoying than halfway across every bridge in City is 2-3 swarmers. As they are now you know you will run across them and they become nothing more than an annoyance where players set BOFF's to passive mode and run past them resetting "run" 3 times during. If players do not know they are going to be there they become more of a surprise thats less annoyig to deal with.

    5. Have the Voth that are capturing a point actualy look like they are doing something like the artillary points. all they do is stand in the center. Have them stand at one of the consoles looking like they are using it. Same with the tram line whatever those are supposed to be points.

I've also been enjoying the Battlezone, and agree that it's the most fun ground thing in STO yet. Very good work on this overall, devs.

Swarmers can be annoying when they keep spawning and spawning and flanking and following you around. To add insult to injury, they like to get stuck on objects and can't be targeted, but have no problem shooting at my away team. Either their spawn rate could use a touch of nerf, or they could be more eager to go after nearby Voth.

Command credits need to be tweaked. As has been suggested, getting a stack of them directly into inventory would be preferable, if one contributed to capturing a point. Running around like headless chickens, possibly trying to out-ninja one another, is both unpleasant and undignified. Just like the ridiculous carrier pet stars, the mechanic feels and looks grossly out of place.

Artillery seems to work in two different "modes." Boffs are smart enough to dodge circles at capture points, but mortarosaurus blasts tend to catch them by surprise. Maybe it's intentional? I suppose the V-Rex encounters would be too easy if redshirts didn't behave like redshirts.

I like the whole dyson sphere as does the rest of my fleet.
That being said there are a couple of issues in the battle zone.

    1) Why is there no bank, exchange, and mail in the battlezone.

    2) Why is there a shuttle to the battlezone but not back to joint command. This would fix issue number one.

    3) My character does run as fast as others so collecting command credits can be a little bit of a pain in the butt; exspecially when some one else runs in and steals all the credits that you just worked so had to earn.

Honestly I find command credits a waste of time. And the only side mission I really get into is the ones where they fix the swarmer and it backs you up, I love that one.

I agree with the lighted path to the V-Rex.

    I'm loving the Battlezone.

We will be bringing down the Tribble server for maintenance to apply a new update: ST.35.20131117a.7

    General:
    • Resolved an issue which was causing some players to crash at the loading screen.
    • Resolved an issue which was blocking progression in the mission "Mine Enemy".
    • Resolved an issue which sometimes made it so you could not slot a project in the Dyson Joint Command reputation system.
    • Added audio when picking up coins in the Battlezone.

They even refer to the Battlezone credits as "Coins". What a bunch of bunk.

What boggles me is that they spent soooooo much time to make a beautiful, immersive environment only to be broken up by a childish, undignified, un-treklike, antisocial and Eastern-MMO-type mechanic for delivery of these coins. Utter bullocks!!!!

Make it DPS-based with time in-zone taken into account as well. In any case, the "coins" have GOT to go. (What makes it worse is when a bunch bounce inside close by structures and scenery.)

Also, show some versatility and make the T-Rexes show up at a different spot once in while! I know obviously they cant on some sections, but I think there's at least 2 places per zone where they could appear and have minimal pathing issues.

Giving the Voth Spec Ops guys the Android ability of re-boot II is kinda cheap. I mean, yes it does add a level of difficulty, sure. But for them to get to 66% health and full sheilds? Nonsense. give them a level-1 equivalent of it.

The BIGGEST of the mechs (dunno the names) Work on their attack pattern. As it is right now when they show up, they take several steps before they start their attack animations.

    This is not scary.

When those behemoths land, we should want to RUN!!!! But instead, I run TOWARDS it so I can drop some mines to see the back of it. Make it a smidge faster. Make it start attacking as soon as it lands. make us scared of this ginormous beast!

The mortars from artillery and from mechs should have different targeting crosshairs, like a previous poster stated.

DROPS: 98% of the console drops are vendor trash. Add some more utility to them. Also, you may want to check to see if the shield regen proc is actually working.

yeah i enjoy this zone a lot... but would probably echo some of the points already made here... but my main gripe is the battlezone credits, these need to be either put straight into ur inventory or only drop for those that have actually helped in capturing the zone. the way it is now just encourages leechers.

as someone who likes to solo a lot of content (im in a very active fleet but just enjoy doing stuff myself) the battlezone is a great way of grindin the Dyson rep and gettin a healthy amount of Dil all at the same time :) it usually only takes bout 15-20 mins to complete all the daily's in the zone and there all fun to do except the "call in reinforcements" daily. why?

cause the way the system is now just leads to leeching, i love going off and takin zones by myself...but then i have to run around like a tool to pick up all the credits before some knobend runs in and grabs em. fix this please

when u have to collect 120 credits for ur daily then players get inventive with how they do this, the 1st thing i started to notice was players jumpin around instances so they could go capture the transport points (so easy to cap solo and they seem to payout the same credits as cappin a proper zone). i thought thats a good idea, after you complete ur "cap voth points" daily u usually have bout 60-70 credits (if u solo and no bum has robbed ur credits) so u need to cap two more zones so u can finish ur other daily. cool ill save myself some hassle and go cap two transport zones, then u get ur real bottom dweller leechers coming into play here, these turds cant even be bothered to run around the zone trying to rob credits or jump instances going after easy transporter zone caps. no they just wait for the transports to become active back at the command center and then come through and grab ur credits.........

    sort it out.... cryptic

Quoted for truth, because that sums up my gripe with the Battlezone. What could be intense urban warfare against a technologically superior enemy deflates into annoying, childish nonsense of running after "coins."

Between the credit ninjas and the dilithium exploiters, this otherwise nice zone loses its shine quickly.

It's almost as if they had it all sorted out, and then someone (a PWE overlord?) showed up telling them to add dinosaurs and Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay. Because it's so much FUN to solo capture an area and lose half or more of the reward credits to vultures. No, really, it isn't. I was just being sarcastic there.

    Suggestions for improvement:

    * Change delivery method of command credits from irritating running around to reward based on contribution. Doesn't have to be complex. Did you do anything to help? Get credits. Did you stand around waiting? No credits. Calling reinforcements is helpful for the whole zone and the marks payout is minimal, so farming shouldn't be a concern here.

    * Stop the shelling at capture points if an area's artillery points are ally-controlled. Adds strategy and makes sense.

    * Make swarmers more eager to go after Voth. I get that they're supposed to be swarmy, but sometimes they seriously overdo it with their split beam BFAW stuff and just keep coming.

    * Nerf excessive Voth self-rez. Exclude it to medics, make it a low-ish chance or something. Another good feature, just overdone when whole suicide squads get up.

You mean they're not hardcoded to ignore concepts like "agro" and just pick one player to chase relentlessly until dead? That's how they seem to work when I'm around..."Oh look, it's him! Ignore those 9 Voth and 2 BOffs shooting at us, get him!"

I've seriously had one break off from fighting 4 Voth Specialists on the other side of the artillery site and fly through a hail of weapons fire to fly past my 2 BOffs and come after me.

I know, right? "I've made 9 kills here...and it's just my team vs 2 Medics that I've killed 4 times each so far! Stay down, damn you!"

...and wait, "self" rez? Now look, the Medics are one thing but when we get zombies raising themselves and the medics are optional, there's something very wrong.

My gripes seem to echo the majority here.

1.) The "coins" mechanic has GOT to go. They look really dang weird, and I hate running around trying to touch them only to miss because my character is 1mm to the left of dead center in these things. Also not fond of the leechers... just make the credits appear in my inventory. Every 5 seconds in the zone means you earn one credit. Seems reasonable to me.

2.) Please add a health bar to each V-Rex so that I know which Rex to help kill next. A nearly dead one means I won't waste my time, since that group has it under control. A very alive one with shielding means that that zone is having issues with it, so I need to assist.

3.) Space zone needs to be totally reworked to be like the ground zone. More ships to fight, with one big bad to face after you've captured all zones. The rate at which Voth retake areas is fine, but maybe could be tweaked to be more aggressive.

4.) Everyone in the zone you are in (park, city, etc.) needs to have all players visible in that zone.

5.) Please find some way to segregate chat between zones. Would make communication a lot easier.

These "coins" won't be bothering people much at all. There is a patch, coming soon, that will reduce the cost (increase the value) of the reinforcements. 25% will be earned for ensigns, which are 20 C.Credits, and anything higher than those will complete the mission for you.
For those people building the fleet spire, this will be reduced further.
