800 day vets and Lifetimers get access to a special DOff mission that lasts 48 hours and allows us to refine 1000 dil over and above the cap (effectively an extra 500/day). There's also a similar mission in the Fleet Mine holding that allows an extra 500 refining per day.
And that's it unless I missed a memo somewhere.

Gold Members are allowed to 'auto-refine' up to a week worth of Dilithium Ore into refined Dilithium, if you happen to miss a few days from STO... This is limited by the normal 8K Daily Dilithium refinement cap, (for each day that you miss refining) and only counts for days that you're not on STO...
However, on days where you manually refine Dilithium, the auto-refine will be disabled for that day, and the following day. On my own characters, I just ignore the manual Dilithium refine, and let the auto-refine do my daily 8K of Dilithium refinement, so I don't need to worry about it...
The weeks refinement of dilithium is if you don't log on. As a gold member, if you don't log on to the game for several days then when you do eventually log on all those days that you didn't get to refine the raw ore get refined (up to seven days).
What yuzral is talking about is extra ore refinement for vets above and beyond the 8k daily limit. A different thing altogether.
OP the automatic refining works like this. If you dont log in for a couple of days (up to a week). The next time you log in the dilithium on the character you log in on will refine the days missed, automaticaly.
It will only refine on the character you logged in on. Not on any others.
I read that gold members are supposedly allow to refine weeks worth of dilithium as a perk. How does this work?
You might be confusing it with the auto-refinement perk, which will automatically refine dilithium on your character, up to a weeks worth, if you haven't refined it in the previous days.
For example:
You have 50.000 unrefined dilithium on your character and you don't log in for 5 days, the system will automatically refine 40.000 dilithium for you when logging in the next time
On my own characters, I just ignore the manual Dilithium refine, and let the auto-refine do my daily 8K of Dilithium refinement, so I don't need to worry about it...
Just a personal preference, but if I don't manually refine the dilithium then every zone change pops up with an 'auto-refinement fail' message versus a '0 refinement' message. I check out the assets tab pretty much first thing anyways to determine how much effort I'm going to put in during the session so I just go ahead and manually refine it since I like latter message better.
I understand now, so I got drill this weekend with the army. I don't log on till sunday evening. The unrefined dilithium I have will automatically refined Saturday cause I didnt log on.

That is... assuming you don't manually refine on friday (today) as it can take up to 48 hours for auto-refining to kick-in... Another reason why I ignore manual refining, and let Dilithium auto-refining do its thing...

I'd check with customer service on that because that's a bug. I've never had that error and it's been months since I last manually refined ore.
