Anyone know how the obelisk tanking ability is compared to the scimitar? I love how well I can tank in my scimitar however I am considering the switch. Any ideas tips thoughts?

Scimitar and Obelisk have 2 radically different functions. obelisks focus on taking fire and letting the pets clean up what ever is attacking it while it takes the agro away from them. The scimitar is more I will punch you till you are dead ship focusing highly on maximizing its damage potential (which is scary) and letting its drones support it. Personally I prefer the scimitar over the obelisk cuz i like the sheer raw destructive power the scimmy brings to the table but your choice.

If you are taking fire from something that will absolutely not go down (and sees through cloaks), then the Obelisk is superior at surviving the damage because of its potential to run more armor and its Engineering/Science heavy officer layout.

A well-built Scimitar is capable of just destroying the problem instead, requiring less survivability gear, while at the same time getting access to a strong and potentially shielded cloak to help protect it when in danger.

Personally, you play a Scimitar to melt faces. Quickly. And with the Valdore console, your shields can be up reasonably well just through sheer firepower and the chance for procs. You CAN configure a Scimitar for tanking. Between the Universal BOFF stations and the Scimitar Pack, it can be done quite well and still have the weapons layout of the Scimitar.

The Obelisk is quite rugged. The Advanced version gives you more flexibility in builds, but using the Universals on TAC is pointless with only 2 TAC Console Slots. You're really only going to use them on ENG or SCI.

In sheer defensiveness, the Obelisk is better.

In a more rounded manner, or the option for pure death, Scimitar is better.

And IMO, for a Romulan, between these 2 ships, hands down the Scimitar. The fabulous RRW BOFF traits which cater to offense and cloaked warfare would be totally wasted on anything that doesn't have Battle Cloaks. These traits are half the reason why the Romulans are OP in STO.

I have no idea what I did then as my scimitar can't do much damage but can soak it up with incredible efficiency. However obelisk was a tad not so. Maybe I just need a new strategy. Thanks for the tips.

With a commander slot in eng, you can get EPS2 and A2SI, on the lt comm sci you can get HE3 and PH2. If you can not tank with those skills and some armors, you need to work on your spec more.

That is one possible tank setup for the basic obelisk, the skill planner does not yet have the fleet version from lobi.

not to mention the obelisk can run D'Vex to his full potential.... as soon as i saw he had Aux 2 Sif III he became my default engineer in that, not to mention his warfare specialist trait does help out the obelisk.

sure rommie BO's are better oriented towards cloaking ships but i feel that it doesnt matter the faction when it comes to certain ships.

if using pets are your style, im sure the advanced obelisk will be your best friend. i run an advanced obelisk with the advanced swarmers, run EPTS1 and EPTW2 as much as i can..... those pets are scary when they fire a EPTW2 enhanced BO 2. not to mention a sci captain with the photonic fleet cooldown reducer can become pretty scary in full carriers at times.

P.s. OP, what shields are you going to use on it?
