So, do you make ships for the majority of players or the minority?
It's been said that Cryptic loses money on making a KDF ship. Since I like playing the game, I'm okay with there being no new KDF ships.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
Your logic fails. It's not circular, unless you make the utterly unfounded assumption that the reason why no one plays KDF is because there's no KDF ships.
Prove that assertion and you might actually have a point.

So,, I was just on Test Server, and it seems there is a new ROMULAN WARBID COMMING OUT SOON!
WHY? AFTER YOU SPECIFICALLY TOLD KDF THEY HAD TO WAIT BECAUSE OF THE VOTH?
First the Avenger...
NOW THE Ac'carial? Did I spell that right?
No matter... I never got a response except "I can't give you an exact date yet" for KDF ships.
KDF Excuse for NO Ship: "Voth"
Fed and ROM? Eliminated the Voth Factor, Get Ships STILL!
Fair? No.
Trustworthy on your part? NO!
Tell me, why! And no "We have it planned, just not yet." again!
LOL well on a more humorous note if the darn KDF would stop warring so much over every thing and everybody including themselves they might actually have the ability to roll out newer designed ships! Just a humorous joke and not factual, but I do understand your frustrations. :P

The reason why no one plays KDF is because they have, since the launch of the game, had far less of anything than the other faction(s). Maybe if KDF was on par with the other two then the playerbase would actually have a reason to play KDF on a regular basis, but as it stands they've had an over 3 year handicap. Cryptic cannot use low player numbers as an excuse when they've been the cause of that since day one.

Prove it. This is just another baseless assumption.

I always love the replies of, "Hardly anybody plays KDF anyways."
I suggest you make a KDF captain, log him on and run around either the city, or launch into orbit or just into sector space outside Qon'os. It is just as packed as ESD if not more so. PWE has a population of players thirsty - begging even - to spend money on Zen to buy KDF specific stuff. Even if you only sell a few of one thing, it's still a few more than you would have sold if you didn't make it available.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.

You are talking about the Refit and Retrofit versions of the Ar'kif (the Retrofit version's a carrier, no less), and you just noticed that on Tribble? sorry, but your whining doesn't do anything but show how needy you seem to be. Here's a suggestion: have patience. That ship has been released for over a month, just so you know.

Huh? The only new ships I saw when I was last on the test server were new fleet ships, and the KDF was getting an equal number of them compared to the Feds/Roms.
Are there screenshots/information to back this up?

The OP was talking about the Ar'kif and its Refit and Retrofit variants.
I play KDF (female Orion scientist) more than I play my male human tactical FED and female Romulan FED-allied engineer combined. Granted, not on the Foundry, but I'm working on both the doff missions and helping with the fleet projects (as I've said elsewhere, what's the point of being in a fleet -- no matter how big or how small -- if you don't do your best to help out in that fleet?). It's easier to earn what's needed on the KDF side than it is on the FED side. More often than not I'm mailing stuff from KDF to FED so that the latter gets what they need. I'm turning in contraband every 4 hours and still have plenty of contraband left over, and then have to wait 24 hrs to process 8K of dilithium each day. Much busier on the KDF side than I am on the FED side, and I *like* being busy in STO (wish I had more than 20 doff missions to assign doffs to). I just don't like having to fight-fight-fight most of the time to do it. I happen to like exploring and I like science. I prefer a "trek" over "wars".

It isn't meant to describe you. It's meant to describe the entirety of the STO active playerbase. I could swear you're not the only active player.
As someone in favor of more KDF stuff, this thread is a good argument in favor of not making a bunch of new KDF stuff.
The KDF was screwed at launch. I get that. Everyone gets that. Cryptic gets that. But people take it personally.
If Cryptic does release a new KDF ship, will enough KDF-primary players be able to get over their victimhood complexes enough to even buy it? I've seen it before that people will continue to insist that Cryptic gives the Klingons nothing, even on the rare occasions when they give them something.
I mean, is this same guy going to post "A NEW KDF SHIP?! THIS IS AN INSULT CRYPTIC! See, this post here from August 12, 2010 by a dev that no longer works at your company says you might maybe someday if the stars line up be working on FIVE new ships, a PVP update, ten new story missions, and the ability to kill Fed characters in their own tutorial!!!!!! Releasing just one new ship proves how little you care about the KDF, I'm never spending any money on this stupid game again, blah blah blah no you can't have my stuff."
Would even a LoR-sized release themed around Klingon stuff even make a difference at this point, or have the KDF playerbase made up their minds? Honestly curious.
EDIT: to clarify, I am completely in favor of a LoR-sized update themed around Klingons, and I think it could give both factions a lot to do while still satisfying a lot of Klingon players. I just wonder about some of the angrier people. I want a better KDF, but some of these threads really make me wonder.
I'm pretty satisfied with being a Klingon - I bought all the ships that have worthy consoles and received free ones during the freebee week not long ago.
One thing I do wish is some more C-Store ships and not just fleet ones, because those from the C-Store are easier to obtain when bought directly and one of the reasons why I really dislike lockbox ships. I want guarantee when buying something with micro transactions and not play slot machine as if it were gambling.
So, do you make ships for the majority of players or the minority?
It's been said that Cryptic loses money on making a KDF ship. Since I like playing the game, I'm okay with there being no new KDF ships.
Great. Another one of you Fed fanboys. Always preying on kdf forum posts just to whine about how the Empire should be neglected. If you don't want to play kdf then fine. But keep it to yourself. There ARE people who want to play kdf, and it's not your mantle to say who should and shouldn't be given content, so shove it.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "The Borg - party-poopers of the galaxy"~ The Doctor
Considering that they're not virutal objects and not real prizes, that you can also buy the lockbox keys and ships for EC, and there's no (legal) way to turn EC payouts from selling them back into real world money, probably not.
I have seven of my 11 characters who are KDF. I will admit also there is a lack of new KDF content and new ships. Ultimately the population does speak with numbers.
But to say Cryptic does not make money on KDF ships would not be entirely accurate As I have seen plenty of Cstore KDF ships playing in game. And even one more ship or story mission or what have you is just one more reason for existing KDF players to buy another ship and or even roll another character if it is a decent ship.
KDF is overdue for a five front and two or three back weapon setup. If the ship is good enough people will by it and make KDF characters if that is the only way to get this done.
The old adage if you build it they will come, always applies.
Also there is room for another faction in STO. If there is popular enough race Dominion, Borg, or even an entirely new faction from scratch. The Dominion and the cardassions are the logical step for this new faction. Becasue you have not even scrathed the surface of their potential in the game. You have the entire Gamma Quadrant to work from plus parts of the Alpha with the Breen Cardies and the should seriously consider a new race to bring into the mix to open up the creativity. I could easily see a story line where the Jem'Hadar are evolving as a species dispite their genetic engineering. If you will remember Garanigar from DS9 the Jem'Hadar who's body evolved to create his own ketrocel white. Imigine thosuand or hundreds of millions of Jem'Hadar not dependent on the drug that keeps the subservient. They were created to be super aggressive super soldiers. Without the drug controlling them the founders could create a new race of super soldier and secretly breed the to replace the Jem'Hadar. the possibilities are endless!
The Romulan's are a perfect example of why a new faction would and could make Perfect World lots of money. As it has been very popular thus far.
If not the the next logical step would be a serious boost to the KDF story ships and everything about it. A complete rework with a serious twist to the story line for KDF faction.
Cryptic doesn't want to invest in the KDF because there is nobody playing it, but we want Cryptic to focus on the KDF so more players would want to play KDF.
And it's all through the Dev team neglecting the KDF as a faction for 3 years. And originally making the KDF a PvP Faction. And ultimately stripping the KDF's uniqueness with Carriers and Battlecruisers, there is really no reason to play KDF except to farm Dilithium and sell that for Zen, which you buy stuff with your Federation characters.
That's why people want the war ended, because there is no reason for it anymore.
I always love the replies of, "Hardly anybody plays KDF anyways."

Thank you for being an understanding member of the community, unlike elssy-whatnot here who has clearly never touched a kdf character pardon 10 seconds or so. Its not about lack of content or "going to where the grass is greener". It's a ****ing game, and people will play what they like. I for one prefer the kdf because they have fewer ESD-swarming windowlickers and more respectful members who actually know a thing or two about the game and are usually real trek fans, who choose not to be like the rest of the Feds who whine more about how "the kdf has too many goodies" and that "we deserve them too", then go on and say that the kdf has nothing so nobody will play it. All the good uni consoles are kdf. Kdf has arguably better tactical ships all around, though I can't say we have any room to talk in terms of escorts (being that we have TWO/pegh'qu if you count it). It's a matter oh preference.
Hard to believe Cryptic's initiation of a war between Klingon and Federation would spread to real life.

You don't even have to make all the content KDF exclusive. LoR didn't, they gave Nimbus to both factions.
Set part of this proposed expansion around the Federation/KDF war, and Feds can play the same episodes from their side. Re-introduce the Undine and have it end with the Feds and Klingons putting aside their differences (temporarily) to purge both their sides of the Undine infiltrators they've discovered. End the story arc with both sides still someone chilly towards each other, but willing to team up against bigger threats.
Slip that into the Fed episode log after the Klingon front and before the Borg front. Bam, you've just eliminated 95% of the objections to a KDF season.
EDIT: also release a Galaxy 3-pack, along with a nearly identical Negh'var 3-pack. Most of the Fed pain at seeing five-ten new KDF ships would be mitigated by having one of their (legitimate) longstanding ship complaints taken care of at the same time.
I always love the replies of, "Hardly anybody plays KDF anyways."

This.
If Cryptic made things KDF players actually want (more costume options, k'vort, mek'leth, d'k tahg, targ handler kit, etc), those items would make a profit the day they were released. There aren't as many KDF players as Fed players, but there are far more than enough to make it worth Cryptic's time to add new items to the game. I'm one of those KDF players eagerly awaiting the opportunity to spend money on cool new KDF stuff.
C'mon, Cryptic. Exploit me.

Isn't logic fun! The majority thinks so
Well, it's more of an explanation as to why there is a focus on lockbox ships instead of faction ships, because then they get $$ from all factions.
2 1/2 years.
Those two new Lt Ships, 1, disgrace the majority lvl 50, and two, were already made, just weren't playable because of the KDF being 20-50.
