So I just did the FE twice and collected the two easy to get AP set pieces. (and a personal thank you from a die hard AP user for some AP loving)
What I found from them was they are pretty darned amazing for an Antiproton build of any kind EXCEPT:
- the 360 beam array has lower DPS than a turret - please match them or make it higher since it drains more weapon power to fire it.
- the 2 piece 10% AP damage boost is underpowered compared to the AMP mod on the elite fleet warp cores. on highly tuned ships with 75+ in every subsystem, you get 13.2% damage increase. Not to mention the Jem Hadar set bonus for polaron is higher as well.
Id advise tweaking the FE set bonuses to match the Jem Hadar set bonus for polaron, and to increase the base damage dealt by the Omni Beam to about 160 (which is higher than the 144 of a turret)
Currently they are both underpowered compared to their Polaron counterparts.

And as an aside ... AP is not really a good energy type for a carrier. Carriers dont have the hard-points to do lots of energy damage, and dont often have the weapon power for it either. Instead they have to support their pets who are doing the real damage. To the extent that a carrier uses any kind of eneregy weapons at all (and doesnt just use torps and spells), they are going to use a proc that furthers the support role, such as polaron or disruptors or the like. AP proc boosts critical hits, thats like the last thing you would think of on a carrier that is not trying to do big damage directly. As such the set pieces are not really useful for a full carrier, and instead are mostly useful on some other ship in the player's wing that is built to do energy weapon damage. I suspect that I will be replacing the weapon with traditional gear and the warp core with a fleet version, and putting the other pieces in the bank or on another ship. And that gets us back to the point above. Most likely, they are just going in the bank. My klingon Sci-BOP is the only ship I can think of that would see any improvement from this set.

True, but, we know from previews that the Voth use a variation on AP that debuffs a target's offense when it procs rather than the CrtD boost. Odds are those will be the special weapon type in the next lockbox. Those AP plus this set.....?
Also that turret thing is gonna be very popular with Vesta users, because now they'll be able to runn 3 DHC fore and still use their subsystem targeting. I imagine there are gonna be a lot of AP Vestas in the near future.
I personally love the new ship and its accompanying components. They are marvelous for antiproton builds which I'm a fan of myself. My only issue is how slow the turn rate is for the obelisk. To answer some of what is said above, the beam has a lower DPS than a turret for a reason. It's to balance it. If it had a DPS like a turret it would be too powerful because anything that enhances beams stacks onto it unlike with turrets. I saw this right away and so traded out my turret for it. The results are incredible to say the least. I do however have a question of my own. If you take a look at what the obelisk is equipped with during the mission you'll notice a universal science console that is SOOOOO deliciously awesome. My question is how does someone obtain this astonishing new console? I ask because I want one like yesterday.

By purchasing the 800 lobi advanced version of the carrier in the Lobi store.

cannon specials work with turrets too, so that isnt really a valid point (the beam special thing)
i just find it a bit off that a weapon that draws more power does less damage

My point is quite valid. Take a closer look and you will notice this theme. Cannons on the average have higher base damage and in the case of turrets higher DPS than beams but beams gain higher bonuses through consoles than cannons. The greatest feature to the Omni beam isn't even that it's a 360 degrees fire range weapon that's also a beam but that it is a tier 5 weapon that has no rank or level restrictions. Meaning it can be equipped to any ship at any level unlike the two other items belonging to its set and unlike other weapons in the game. That single feature alone is amazing and I hope that they don't change it. I love it the way it is.

It's AP. The extra crit severity makes it do more dps, but it's burstier.
Locking us into a Lobi purchase for the 3rd piece of the set, though.. Not cool, Cryptic. Not cool.
In all seriousness though, I love the new carrier, from its looks to how well it works on an aux2bat setup. Could use a better universal seat though, it's kind of not very good on characters that aren't engineering-heavy.
I mentioned this in another thread, I'd like to be able to upgrade the Omni weapon and the advanced core to more elite versions, to make this gear more competitive.
IMO, using Tac TSS and the Omni weapon makes it unique and somewhat competitive, it might make Sci TSS more competitive-although the 2 min cd is a negative factor. Perhaps an Elite version could slightly decrease the target's turn rate (could be explained as the beam has the ability to transfer some the the carrier's inertia/slow turn rate) on a successful proc.
Or if not the weapon than I'd like to be able to upgrade the advanced core to an elite core version. For the elite version, instead of an AMP modifier, and to stay within the Anti-proton and unique Ancient ship theme, every system above 75 could award +% (say +.2% to +.6% perhaps) to crits.
The upgrade could be done preferably through a reputation system or it could be done through the doffing system, similar to what was done with the Reman space set.
So far this feature episode is really cool ONLY if you are KDF or FED. Yes as a Romulan you can do the episodes but you can't get the +10% AP bonus. Are there any plans to create a Romulan Quantum Singularity Core so that this a truly 100% all factions mission. I don't have the money to collect the lobi required to buy the Advanced ship and would like the opportunity to strengthen my Romulan character.
