First: I love this mission! It is very well written with some awesome moments and extra nice voiceovers
Absolutely one of my favorite mission
Now the bad: I had some serious problems with the flashlight:
- First it wasn't displayed at all. So I started to play around with the video settings.
- I discovered that it won't show up when the "FX Settings" was set to "Low" the minimum requirement for FX is "Middle"
- Next the cone of the light was really small. Only a tiny circle was lit.
- After playing around a bit more with the Video settings, I figured out that I needed to enable "Dynamic Lighting" and set the "Light per Object" to at least "3". With this settings the cone was nicely large enough and blended very well at the edges.
As my PC isn't the best and I prefer to keep the FPS high instead of a lot eye candy I would love to see some fixes for lower video settings. My PC setup: AMD Dual-Core CPU 2.3Ghz, 4 GB DDR2 RAM, ATI HD4670 GPU, latest Catalyst Driver.
If you have problems with the flashlight in this mission aswell try to use at least this video settings:
- Dynamic Lighting = enabled
- Max Light per Object = 3 (or more)
- FX setting = middle (or higher)

Excellent mission. Aside from the creepy Aliens-like atmosphere I thought the Flashlight was one of the best additions to the game. Unfortunately, dynamic lighting makes my 4870x2 crash so I have to play with it turned off. Also, because of the camera angle, the light is blocked by your captain's head 90% of the time. Perhaps that is fixed when using Dynamic Lighting? I was really dissapointed that we could not keep the flashlight after this mission. :-( Cryptic, it would be super awesome if we could some how replicate / craft these.
I stocked up on flashlights by having my away team equip every available device slot. I only lost mine, but I have a dozen sitting in my bank.
My Issue is not being able to keep the flashlight
Surely cryptic have seen enough players at Sol dock pulling out their beloved fire extinguishers and start hosing the place down.
Why were we not able to keep this little Momento?
As for flashlights.... On my first 3 chars it sucked... Then i started tweaking my gfx settings... upping reflections, shadows, number of light sources... turning on dynamic lighting and postprocessing.... And it became extremely nice! Though i had to sacrifice some FPS . Some surfaces, however, did not reflect the light from my flashlight... (I'm running an i5, Nvidia 320GT, 8Gb ram)
Wish the Devs would have tipped me about my settings before my first run... Would have made the initial experience a LOT more enjoyable, especially because I didn't have the music turned on, as i'm pretty sick of the music i'm normally hearing....
Next weekend i'll be going in with all settings at maximum!
Also the board for the station is different then when I played it with my other 2 char.
I don't know what to do I hate playing this level with out a flashlight and well I can't seem to find one at all LOL any idea's?
Edit:
D'oh, necrothreaded!!!!
My character Tsin'xing
Lol, brilliant

The flashlight from 'What Lies Beneath' is persistent if you give it to a Boff. The mission only checks the player for a flashlight, so you can take one, give it to a Boff, the mission sees that you have no flashlight and re-enables the flashlight crate, then you take another, repeat ad nauseum.
And yeah, this thread is a zombie.
