rate my failboat and spec for E-STF

Hey everybody,

I havent been keeping up on elite STFs for a while now. Is tanking in elites still pretty pointless? I had a regular Sovvy that i got geared up in Borg and some Maco gear before the rep system got implemented. Doing normal mode cure, infected and khitomer is obviously really easy with what i have. Khitomer for example i'm able to tank 3-4 of the spheres and a gate for a minute or two with no real problems.

I'm guessing that the ship itself is more then enough to handle elite. But what about the spec and boff layout? should i even bother trying to tank anything? I know i wont be able to tank 4 spheres in an elite (was just using that as a way to measure ship performance). But should i even bother trying to tank a Tac cube or Gate, or even a sphere in an elite?

I only put in the info for ship and skill tree, my BoFFs are all TRIBBLE and they are the ones you get from quest rewards and stuff. Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

Would you consider a auc2bat build

With such few sci and tact slots, it's highly recommended.

    Chive on and prosper, eh?

I wouldn't say tanking is completely useless but probably not the most effective though I find with so many escorts and such just sitting there dpsing that they can die pretty fast if say a tactical cube decides to engage them. Same with a group of spheres. The guy above me linked the aux2bat build quite a few people use these days. Its very powerful and is extremely popular.

I personally use my Assault Cruiser as a tank and use a modified version of the old dragon Cruiser build which your build kinda reminds me of.

I personally like playing different types of builds just for variety. I have a nebula sci set up as a pure healer. is it the most effective probably not but people sure do love me in elite stfs and crystalline entity =P

Yep call me cheap. Eventually may buy the elite phasers but thats down the road until then these weapons are good enough. Though they are not broken on true borg.

yes, but half the borg Faction space NPC's it doesnt work for, which means its not working a lot.

and advanced fleets would probably be better than elites, i heard the procs are kinda crappy.

Yeah I've heard the same thing about advanced vs fleet, but with going for a tank type build the proc could potentially be great for that. At some point I will get around to parsing it on tribble or something and see how it works.

running 4 armors in general is a bit wasteful, on top of that you've got 0 kinetic resist that way run 2x netronium and you'll get resistance to all things. add the borg and romulan consoles in the other 2 spots to minimize fail XD(or a tachyokinetic)

more than 6 points in a lot of skills gets you mimimum effect the power skills especially don't really return much there at all and would be better moved elsewhere(like the energy specilzation skill)

Two of the consoles are the +plasma/+whatever resist the other two are +kinetic resist. I am in a fleet, but the toon in question is just an alt so i never did any fleet rep stuff. I have the Borg weapons because this character has been sitting for almost a year, i got that gear before the rep system and fleet starbase system came about.

Right now i guess my resistance is enough for normal STFs since i barely take any damage with continous EPTS. But it sounds like in elites i will have to focus on actually healing lost shield and hull instead of relying on resistance alone. Which is what i guessed anyways but i just dont know how much of my shield and hull will be going away in chunks.

Ohh, and pay no attention to the skill spec hehe...it's old and i derped it up. It was just a brain TRIBBLE where i used to put 33000/93000/etc in space alone without factoring in ground. I've spec'd a few of my toons since my engineer with the minimum for each tier for combined space AND ground, just not my engineer. So i'm able to get 26 bars worth of stuff in the admiral space tier now. I'm just not sure if i want to respec and put points in threat control or if i should just spend it somewhere else and max out my dps (if tanking in elites is pointless that is).

For the auxbat build, is that kinda like combining a cycling epts>eptw>epts>eptw into just two auxbat abilities? looks like it has the added effect of increasing engine power for slightly better defense, manuevarability? would i have to spec into tier 1 starship batteries as well? i think dahminus just modified the ship page not the skill tree page. I've only messed with aux bats once a long time ago. I'll take a look at it once the game comes back up.

If i redo my skills for full dps and to support the auxbat build here is what i was thinking about. Check out the skill tree tab and let me know what you guys think. Especially about the admiral tier starship aux...since its an aux to bat build is that good or overkill that i spec'd into it?

Resistance tanking is how i have my shield system set up. If i were to set my base power levels to 105/105/52/36 (non adjusted shows 85/85/15/15) with double EPTW and EPTS running i can maintain 125/121/52/36 indefinately unless i am hit with an ability that lengthens my EPT cooldowns. Actually because of EPS manifold efficiency i can maintain 125/125/52/36 for half the time, the other half it dips to 125/121. I just double checked too and it looks like EPS manifold efficiency also raises my eng and aux power levels by 10 each.

With aux to batteries i can maintain the same energy level effect but with half the number of BoFF slots? am i understanding that correctly? If so, by switching to aux bats to get the same energy level effect dont i miss out on the damage reduction from EPTS and damage increase from EPTW? With rotating EPTS/W i do miss out on some engine power. I dont have a auxbat BoFF handy but i think it would put me at 70-80 engine power without it i'm only looking at 52-62 engine power.

And you mentioned purple boffs too. I looked and i see that the duration on auxbat is only 10 seconds, with a 40sec CD. So i can see why the boffs would be necessary. I'm not looking for a BiS setup, i just want to know if with my spec and gear if its doable. At least to the point where i can last 10-15seconds against a sphere or cube that is focused on me.

A new question I just thought of too. Is there some kind of ghetto benchmark i can use to tell me if my dps is high enough? like in normal cure, if it takes me X amount of seconds to kill a nanite generator my dps sucks, if it takes me Y seconds then its good. I dont have parsers or dps meters (or w/e it is you guys use in STO) so just something i can do on the spot really quick.

    thanks again
