I know this has been brought up before, but I would love to be able to place dreadnought mobs in space maps. When, if at all, could we see this functionality added to the Foundry?
If you (the devs) are concerned because dreadnoughts are generally more powerful than players, you don't need to be. Most Founders are smart enough to know that already, and will take it into account when building the mission.

good idea. maybe this would help for one problem i always have on my missions, that friendly npc's that are story relevant can't get into a fight cause the would be destroyed.

That would be real useful
Plus sometimes i would like to put in a Mob thats supposed to be nearly impossible to beat, and use it to discourage the player from going over to that location, without using an invisible wall
Sometimes i want to be able to put the player in a position where they are not in control, E.g nemesis , where the Enterprise is clearly outmatched and outgunned , i want the ability to put pressure on the player, force them to flee

I third the motion. Being able to place dreadnought NPC groups would be nice. However, I'd recommend that the NPC dreadnought mob info state that a player probably can't fight a dreadnought solo, just in case.
Winning.
It's what I do. It's what I just did. It's what I'm about to do again. It's being undisputed emperor of an empire that cannot be disproved as the most powerful intergalactic empire in the entire universe; I always win, and everything I've won will definitely be won again... by me. It's my signature move, and thus, it's my signature. Problem, Sonic? Yeah, I mean you, Sonic, because you're being beat up, despite your being super. You can't even hit Shadow back, can you? Nope, he's too strong for you. Of course, I'm not Shadow, I'm the Super Emerald fueled fox that's pulling the strings; trust me, the fight would only be a few frames long if I were in it personally. Oh, and here's something for all you guys thinking you can win Last Post Wins 3.0; trust me, I'll be around a long while after the sun has already consumed the Earth while I sit out with the forum servers on Titan. Yes, I mean Titan... that comparatively little moon orbiting Saturn. It's a nice little place in a version of our solar system where the sun is a lot bigger. I mean, Mars will last longer than your precious Earth, but by then, it'll be one hot planet... and I figure Saturn's moon will be about the right temperate for a super-powered warlord. Oh, and trust me, I packed a lot of rings, and I mean a lot. Trillions, in fact, so I'll never run out of rings to power my super form. Besides, if I start to run out, I can just chaos control more rings into my reach. It's quite easy, really. You should try it. Granted, you'll never have the 7 Super Emeralds that I have in my possession, nor the Master Emerald that I've got hidden away somewhere... absorbed into my body thanks to Sonic logic, but whatever. I win. Again. I'm not kidding, either. Just check Last Post Wins, and if the last post isn't mine, it soon will be. Very, very soon. You can count on it. Seriously. By the way, if you're wondering, there's a really great Super Tails sprite sheet out there... somewhere... by some guy named shadow_91. These sprites are really great. Like, really good. Quality. Just like what I like to see in a sprite sheet. Also, credit to Joe T.E., his Sonic Battle style Super Sonic sprites have a great palette for a Super Sonic being beat up by Super Shadow, who's palette is from a Super Shadow sheet of unknown origin, but it turns out they were "borrowed" from a better sheet made by a certain Domenico. Oh, and the gif is actually a custom made super version of a similar gif, of which there are only 3 or 4 copies to be found by Google, and even then, evidently of an unknown source. Yep, it's one of those things. Stuff people have made, spread around, only for it to vanish and you to be the only person who still has a copy, not even knowing where it came from... like, literally at all. Oh, and anyone notice that Shadow's little chaos snap blast thingies are red and blue now? Yeah, I changed it. Problem, fans of purple? Yeah, I know you got a problem with that one, but you can just deal with it. After all, according to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly... alright, alright, I'll spare you the entire Bee Movie script, just Google it if you want. By the way, ever wonder how your characters would've ended up if they evolved in another universe? Yeah, that. Think about it. Ok, so you probably didn't bother reading up to here, but whatever, here's a surprise for you guys over at ESD (RP) who were crazy enough to read this: Emperor Nat of the mcfreakin' Terran Empire is gonna be right all along! The universe is gonna go BOOM! *Thumbs up to the insanity*
Oh, now don't tell me you want in on all this! Well, ok. Look this that Egg Pawn hanging outside your window, pointing his laser rifle at you, waiting for my next order. He's doing his part. He helps conquer the weak-minded. He roboticizes the weak-bodied. Heck, he even helps keep the useless people from causing any trouble, but you know what? Join. Find the closest Nataran Empire roboticization center near you and join the ranks, before the ranks find you. Oh, I know, you figure it must be so satisfying to know I basically rule the world now, and you know what? It is, but do you want to know the true definition of satisfaction? Well, let me tell you a little story. One day, you see a brand new event. They're giving out boxes that give old event stuff. Your dilithium is plentiful. You buy a whole lot of Phoenix packs on your main, and open them all. You get one epic token. Then, you decide, that since you have all the Breen ships and don't give a damn about the others, you exchange it for an ultra rare, and grab yourself a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship and for the hell of it, a Voth Bulwark. You open both, leaving the Bulwark in your vast masses of starships as you jump into the bugship and deck it out, deck by deck, into the most awesome Jem'Hadar ship you can. You fly it. You enjoy it. Eventually, you get bored and leave, leaving the old Bulwark never flown... until later. Your main is long complete. Your new alt main, based off some character you pulled out of nothing just to explain away some starship being in service without the command of your dear admiral, is also complete. Mostly. Their reps and doffs are hard at work, getting you stuff. You realize the potential, and head back for your dear admiral, pull the most Voth themed build you can out of thin air, and suit up in your giant ship in the shape of you know what. You head out... and cause all sorts of havoc. Enemies scream out your name as their very life is drained away by your swarms of Aceton Assimilators. They complain to the devs of your OPness when you revive yourself from death every time you die. Do you show any form of mercy? No. After all, this isn't the United Federation of Planets, this is mother frakkin' Starfleet, where you explore strange new worlds and kick butt never kicked before. Oh, and you realize that I just wrote another speech rivaling your own signature. Cool. Oh, wait, that's just the original draft, it is part of my signature now. Oh, and yes, I am aware that I have become a Canadian Regent; one day, sooner than you'd expect, we'll suddenly decide to take over the world and declare an "alliance", and I shall become it's Regent. You know, like the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance in the mirror universe of our beloved Star Trek. Oh, who'll we be taking over with? I dunno, maybe [REDACTED], or maybe aliens from outer space. Guess you'll have to wait and find out, won't we? Until then, don't ask too many questions, or else my Breen allies on Titania might pick up on your -- [REDACTED BY BREEN CONFEDERACY FOR REASONS] Also, psst... keep an eye out for flying Tribbles! Oh, and definitely keep your eye out on any two-tailed foxes, because if they ain't glowing, they're definitely an imposter. Possibly an Undine, we caught one of those once in my place once. Oh, and if you find a two-tailed fox that doesn't like the cold... most certainly ask him to say sorry. If he refuses, DESTROY HIM WITH A DOOMSDAY MACHINE, BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING ELSE THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH AGAINST SUCH AN OVERPOWERED IMPOSTER!
tr;dr, I am winning last post wins 3.0. Thank you for your time.

I agree there needs to be harder bosses. I am currently working on a borg mission, and well I ran into the issue of the boss fight being to easy. The highest you can have is an elite tact drone and well they are not much of a challenge. I would also like to see tact cubes as well. I know it will be hard to fight them alone, but I myself enjoy a good challenge. Even if it takes me a couple of times to kill something and I have to push myself to the limit and come up with a different way of doing it, that to me is what makes a mission fun. If I just can go in and wipe the floor with the enemy it makes it boring. Maybe you can allow for bosses like the ones in the stfs just adjusted to make it possible for a single player to kill it but not to easily. Or even allowing us to create our own bosses to our specs but place a limit on how hard it can be, but allowing us to make the boss as easy or as hard as we choose would make the mission that much more different.
Helping people is my passion in life. If I see someone without a smile I try to give them mine.
A dreadnought can appear in a Battleship group if there are enough players in the mission, but I agree I think STO needs a space equivalent of the "Captain" ground unit.
As long as they're adding these, they might as well just give us the ability to select which mobs we want to have spawn individually based on what effect we want.

I know in my mission Uprising: Act I - Off The Grid, the final battle was to be between you and a dreadnought. However, the hardest I could make it was having you go against a battleship reskinned as a dreadnought. This kinda made me sad as it was kinda anticlimactic but the storyline bailed me out. Some of the reviews admitted that it was a little too easy while others felt that it tied in beautifully by being "too easy" because of the what the story was trying to accomplish.
So what does everyone use to make a big, bad difficult boss ship? Sure it can be skinned as practically anything but what mob are you using to give that dramatic, epic duel between you and the villain? Curious to hear people's answers on this as it will be very useful in the later segments of my Uprising series.

Could try quantity over quality, i.e. throw multiple battleships at the player at once.

The only problem is that that may be too much , i'm not entirely sure how it works with scaling, a battleship that spawns for a level 50 can be fairly nasty, two of them at elite difficulty might just be too much of a challenge
However i am tempted to make a mission with pairs of different faction battleships just to try it and see how i manage it, if it gives me a challenge it will be great, i don't like winning easily, it isn't fun ( sometimes i skin cruisers as Bops and put three in just to see how players react, i am a little mean )

that is a good idea. I have notice alot of space battles to be a bit anti climatic because its way to easy. Also, if the devs are worried about it being too hard, in Azure Nebula I was able to solo Tholian Dreadnoughts in my Escort Carrier, it's very fun
One my currently building missions involves taking down a Dreadnought-level opponent, does help if it is actually a Dreadnought level-mob xD
Play my missions on Holodeck! Return of Ja'Dok Series (6 Part Series) Enemy of the Exile Series (4 Part Series) Task Force Ja'Dok Series (3 Part Series)
I would embrace the possibility to see those Breen Rezreth Destroyers more often, or the Fek'ihri Drek'hi Dreadnought, most dreadnoughts just appear in one or two Fleet actions, and they need to have more love shown to em.
Being a person who Specializes in taking on Dreadnoughts 1v1, i approve of this thread 30 times over.
(And yes i've been successful at it before, rarely getting defeated by a Dread legitimatly, the only one that beat me legitly would be the Tactical Cube, and i usually run from the Scimitar since it CLOAKS TOO MUCH.)
And if Cryptic is worried about Fairness Risk, they shouldn't be.
Im sure people will place friendly ships to support the player during a Dread fight, and/or other nessecary additions.
And im sure people would love experimenting with ways of fighting dreadnoughts 1v1.
WARNING: it takes HOURS depending on your ship and build, for my scimitar, it takes one hour or less, for my Galaxy-X, it takes three or four, for my Vo'quv, it typically takes one and a half.
While i understand the need to make Dreadnoughts "A Final confrontation of NOW or NEVER" kind of battle drama, in time, SOME people will feel inferior if they keep having NPC ships help them defeat such a foe, i felt this once, which inspired me to make "True Dreadnought Hunting" builds.
You'll be doing your community a favor by putting this in the Foundry, trust me Cryptic.

I hear ya, My Odyssey, Bortasqu, and Galaxy-X have all survived Scimitar Thalaron bursts (With half hull gone, though).
Makes me want to try such a thrilling, and risky stunt, AGAIN.

Speaking of which.. Before the Terradome mission vanished, i took on the Undine U.S.S. Poseidon and survived the whole battle with my Galaxy-X, if i recall, the Undine Poseidon had 1million-something Hull integrity.
ONE time, only ONE, i actually destroyed it.

I agree with the Dread's but i would prefer it if we could simply increase the stats of units as we see fit (note: i said Increase not decrease no way to exploit it).
Oh and Patrol Points for Contacts would be nice too.

That's an interesting way to approach it. I'm envisioning a set of sliders for like hit points, damage dealt, shield regen, etc, sliders that start at 100% and only go up. I like this idea.

For that matter, I'd also like the ability to customize weapon loadouts and other tech on NPC mobs (friend and foe alike). Currently, if I'm not mistaken, we're stuck with all beams of whichever energy type is the default for the mob's faction, but an escort with all beams is, to say the least, quite immersion-breaking for most players who have long since been trained to expect cannon loadouts on escorts.

We really do need some kind of NPC customization feature to make battles longer and more interesting.
I especially would love where we can select which weapons and abilities we want NPCs to use. For instance, no Thalaron Weapons for Romulans or no saucer separation. Or NPCs not using Science abilities like Gravity wells when we want traditional Trek battles.
That's an interesting way to approach it. I'm envisioning a set of sliders for like hit points, damage dealt, shield regen, etc, sliders that start at 100% and only go up. I like this idea.
That is what i was thinking about, i would also like to see a slider to affect the size of a ship, within acceptable means of course, being able to create a huge but slow "Boss" would be nice...maybe a max of 150% size increase or whatever Cryptic used for the oversized Galaxy.
Being able to make customized NPCs would be a cool idea, however, it probably could be exploited.
If that were to work, it'd probably have to have a certain number of powers and weapons to be allowed to be used as an NPC of whatever rank.
Maybe we could even make our own factions of groups of new species! That would be cool, and I'm sure that there are foundry authors that would probably want to do that.
Being able to increase NPC's hull HP and stuff with a slider sounds like a cool idea too. Though, having the option to make an NPC incapable of death would be nice too, that way if the foundry author wants a ship to help the player in combat and have a 100% chance to survive, or to have an unbeatable enemy to convince a player to not go in a certain direction, they could do that.
Winning.

Purely from a player's perspective, not a foundry author, I am all for any way to make Foundry missions more challenging and interesting.
As it is, all the battles that take place in any Foundry missions are just a tedious and tiresome waste of time. With all the power creep going on there's no challenge to be found anywhere in the solo PvE content anymore. Dreadnought mobs could at least partially make up for it, especially if players would be able to tweak their abilities a little.
I realise most PvE content is supposed to be "doable" by a newbie player, but it hurts all the experienced players as a result. Recently it's getting to the point where one player can solo an entire STF. You can only imagine what happens with generic solo pve mobs...
So, yeah, Dreadnoughts and other "boss-type" enemies for the foundry please.

That would be real useful
Plus sometimes i would like to put in a Mob thats supposed to be nearly impossible to beat, and use it to discourage the player from going over to that location, without using an invisible wall

This would be very useful for a mission I am in the process of building.
P.S. (And who hasn't wanted to see if their ship could take on a dreadnought one-on-one?)
Winning.

For most of them. But reskinning a battleship just isn't the same.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."
-Thomas Marrone
even if they just add a ship that has 3 or 4 times the HP of a battleship, its better than just using a battleship.

So what does everyone use to make a big, bad difficult boss ship? Sure it can be skinned as practically anything but what mob are you using to give that dramatic, epic duel between you and the villain? Curious to hear people's answers on this as it will be very useful in the later segments of my Uprising series.

Give us Dreadnoughts.
One my currently building missions involves taking down a Dreadnought-level opponent, does help if it is actually a Dreadnought level-mob xD

Task Force Ja'Dok Series (3 Part Series)
You'll be doing your community a favor by putting this in the Foundry, trust me Cryptic.

i do have a borg cube mission (more for personal use than anything) that is just borg cubes...play it on elite only gets them to just about 100k hp each :"(
I hear ya, My Odyssey, Bortasqu, and Galaxy-X have all survived Scimitar Thalaron bursts (With half hull gone, though).

Oh and Patrol Points for Contacts would be nice too.
That's an interesting way to approach it. I'm envisioning a set of sliders for like hit points, damage dealt, shield regen, etc, sliders that start at 100% and only go up. I like this idea.
That would be almost as godly as a Dread.
I like the idea.

That is what i was thinking about, i would also like to see a slider to affect the size of a ship, within acceptable means of course, being able to create a huge but slow "Boss" would be nice...maybe a max of 150% size increase or whatever Cryptic used for the oversized Galaxy.
Winning.
