I think that there was something mentioned here on the forums in another topic a month or so ago that, if they ever got around to raising the level cap, it would have little to no effect on ship tiers.
Of course, there was nothing said about when - or even if - they'd get around to raising the level cap, really.

Especially when you consider that, if they make Level 60 "Admiral", we'll have almost as many "Admiral" ranks as we would the rest.
Diverging somewhat, based on that...
Instead of the 'Lieutenant, Lt. Commander, Commander, Captain, Rear Admiral LH, Rear Admiral UH, Vice Admiral, Admiral' that is the main possibility...
If they don't divorce rank and level entirely, I'd rather see it closer to Lieutenant, Junior Grade (1-9); Lieutenant (10-19); Lieutenant Commander (20-29), Commander (30-39), Captain (40-49), Fleet Captain (50-54), Commodore (55-59) and finally Vice Admiral (60), that way there's still Admirals above the players in the chain of command so it doesn't seem like the top ranks are going out into the field and doing grunt work all the time.

I find this line of replies sadly hilarious. We put a lot of work into the massive list of fixes/changes above, and ya'll are hung up on the ability to skip our content. =p
My understanding from a podcast interview heard a month or so ago is that the level cap is set to increse "eventually." In such the plan is ingame ways to "upgrade" top teir ships. Just my understanding though.
According to what I have recently read, Cryptic decided to not create tier six ships. I also believe that they have decided to not adjust the level cap. Someone at Cryptic will have to clarify everything.
i asked about this some time ago in ask cryptic and i got an answer too:
Q: (akpa) Previously you?ve mentioned upcoming level cap increases to Fleet Admiral Rank, yet we don?t see anything about that in the Legacy of Romulus revealed. Is there any chance we?ll see it in May?
Dstahl: Our plan to increase ranks up to Fleet Admiral will take place in one of the Seasonal updates after the Legacy of Romulus release.

and i remember they said that the ship's tier will be unchanged but we'll be available to upgrade somehow the ships (or something like that).

They bump the level cap to 60, I see two things happening.
First, everyone that is currently a VA will have to build skill points to progress again. Remember all the points that should be skill points are now made as EX so we can dump them into reputation tiers.
Second, is that six months to a year after the bump there are genuine level 60 ships available in the c-store. (If not one all the way up there at launch to represent the 'true' fleet command vessels.)

Hi guys: time ago I heard about the possibility of see the max level for characters raised from 50 to 60.
Checking the upcomings, i didn't see anything about it.
I just want to know if they are going to do it.
While it would be possible I highly doubt they will increase the lvl cap anytime soon. It just does not make sense.
A proper cap increase would need an updated skill system, maybe some new gear, new pve missions (maybe a new story arc) for the new lvls. New end game content...
Sure they could just raise the lvl and leave everything the same. But that would just annoy people. You do not wand to grind another 10 lvls with the same content without getting anything new in return.
They do have the reputation system which is an indirect lvl cap increase. Personally I think they will stick with adding stuff like that, maybe give us another faction as an expansion.

yeah 10 levels without new content is pointless, but another faction will be suicide for sto imo.
Admiral (60) Fleet Admiral (70) from the passed reviews and speculations would have little to do with "higher level" ships and gear and more to do with "fleet management" so lvl 60 = "away team of ships" 1-2 "escort" vessel slots for all of your mothballed ships.. lvl 70 2-4 of those slots so 5 people could possibly = 25 ships in PVP.. again simple speculations gathered from old dev posts and ask cryptics....

What a joke. I'm not interested into shooting all this npc trash in pvp...

That would depend how they do it an when. I could see another faction happening in a year or so. Also they could simply get rid of the war and allow grouping between all factions.
If done right I don't think it would hurt the game. But that is far in the future and speculation anyway.

I, on the other hand, not really being interested in PvP, and more interested in soloing PvE, would very much like this idea. So there we are.
Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.
I think level 60 should come with more skill points to be spent but also having everyone busted back down to Captain level for rank and using 61 to 100 to climb back up to Fleet Admiral.

Looking for a new fleet? Drop by the in-game chat channel, "tenforwardforum", and say hi to the members of A Fleet Called Ten Forward (Fed) and The Orion Pirates (KDF). If you already have a fleet you are happy with, please feel free to drop by our chat channel if you are looking for a friendly bunch of helpful people to socialize with.
Bah add in more levels if you wish, until they actually give us actual duties to do as a VA, all it would mean, is you're still a glorified captain.

Still think the level cap should be divorced from the Rank name...
