You get the 30 days of paid time, regardless of when you cancel
However the vet time tracker seems to use the days of active subscription, not the days paid. If you are trying to get ~300 days or something you will want to pay attention to that separately.
The only thing I am interested in getting him is (mostly) the 500 stipend so that he can buy the increased energy credit cap. I'm just hoping that he will get that with the one month sub.
While its true that you do get the EC cap raised when you subscribe, it is revoked when the subscription expires. If you want to keep the cap limit, you need to buy it.
The sub actually gets you a lot more useful stuff that is permament, things like inventory slot increases.
Oh yah. I meant that after 1 month you get the 500 zen stipend and I was going to have him put that towards the energy credit cap increase so he can keep the cap after it's cancelled.
Sorry - long days at work = inexact typing/thoughts

You can also consider using the PWE Zen Game Card, which can be purchased over the counter at many retailers, and redeemed on any account for Zen...

I'm just gonna point out the obvious to you here, it's cheaper just buying the Zen for him than paying the subscription to get the 500 Zen...

And additionally, the days under a gold subscription are cumulative later if he decides to get his own Gold Subscription.

Yes but buying the sub gets all the other goodies, its the smarter play
Actually I don't see how paying $15 a month is worth the limited amount of increases that you get in this game. The only thing that I think would even possibly be worth the sub would be the vet rewards and to get the ones that are worth it on a new sub you would need to buy the Lifetime Sub and I don't think that it is worth the $300 that it would cost.

What we are talking about is buying the gold sub for just one month, since that is cheaper than buying the individual upgrades for things like inventory slots, bank slots, account bank, boff slots, etc. Also if you do something like level up a toon in the month, you get free respec token at each 10 levels, which would otherwise cost you $20 worth of zen (or 280,000 dil @ 140 conversion rate).
The LTS goes on sale twice a year, and we should see another one soonish. As far as I know it was only on sale for $199.00 that single time. It's usually 20% off at $240.00.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

It's worth it only if the person wants the bonuses. And I can tell you from experience that Gold is worth having when there's a line getting into the game.

IIRC you can get up to ~$300 worth of unlocks for your first month of subscribing. You can also get a month for ~$1 if you buy an unsed retail version of the game on ebay, amazon or the likes and redeem the code.

In 20+ months as a "silver" member I've only encountered the queue once or twice with a wait of <5 minutes each time, so the priority queues would be the smallest advantage for me.

Though as a Lifetime 'Gold' member, I've seen the 'Gold' queue go over 20 minutes, with 'Silver' at the end of the line waiting over a hour. Though this only happens with 'major' releases, such as a new Featured Episode series, or a new Season..
And 'Tribble' access is currently limited to 'Gold' accounts...
I do plan on getting the subscription to gain the extra BOffs, account bank, etc and then use the 500 gold at the end of it to purchase the EC cap. I thought that was the best deal for him.
