Open for discussion, what would be the current (as of 2409) status of the planets visited by the USS Enterprise between 2266-2271 (in other words TOS/TAS). Pick any planet (or starbase).
The 'Shore Leave' planet, with its technology that allows the scanning of minds and creation of physical representations of people's thoughts (which was probably partially reverse-engineered to create the modern replicators from the old protein-resequencers) is likely under Starfleet Intelligence interdiction similar to Gateway/Forever World (Guardian of Forever's planet) to keep the technology out of public hands.
Willing to bet that's why Risa is the shore leave capital of the Federation - the 'Shore Leave' planet's been classified and no one outside certain circles even knows it exists anymore.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
Also... the Shore leave planet was shown to be somewhat dangerous and that it only worked properly for people with focused minds. Idle daydreams could create dangerous monsters. If you were to fantasize about fighting a dragon, it'd make one and send it to attack you..... NOT a safe place to be.
Lots of planets got cordoned off for various reasons, either because of Prime Directive considerations regarding the "primitive" inhabitants, or because something on the planet was dangerous. The copy of Earth may or may not have had that defective life prolonging TRIBBLE still in it's atmosphere.
The Excalbian planet was never the sort of place humans would normally go to. It was basically a Class-Y(Demon) planet....
Then you have the planets that are controlled by races that may or may not want the Federation to return... A Taste of Armageddon comes to mind here....
According to the (non-canon) reference book "Worlds of the Federation", some worlds are even under a kind of cultural interdiction by the Federation. Visitors to Sigma Iotia II (TOS: "A Piece of the Action") have to be checked on and off the planet at an orbiting station to ensure they leave nothing behind that could further contaminate the planet's culture...

Actually I've seen some reference in a doff assignment to the "Eminian Union" which would indicate Eminiar VII and Vendikar
And it seems that the Capellans are at least allied to, if not members of, the Federation - a DOff assignemnt involves auditing diplomatic correspondence with them, but Leonard James Akaar is now an Admiral in Starfleet - at about 142 years of age. (2267 to present 2409...)

Yes, I've also seen one for the CHERON of all races.....
In these cases it could be presumed that there is some sort of contact with these races, even if the general stance of the contact is "leave us alone". In the case of the Cheron... maybe they somehow cloned more? Dunno.

If it's that Cheron, it could be half-breeds. The two surviving males and... I don't know; human females repopulate the planet, maybe.
Of course, it's just as likely that it's the Cheron from the 2160 "Battle of Cheron" in the Earth-Romulan War, which was never proven to be the same planet as the one from 'Last Battlefield'.
You know what, we haven't even considered ENT planets like Skaagara ("North Star") - what does anyone think happened to it? (I'll admit it; I liked the episode "North Star" - it made a better 'Star Trek/Western' episode than '"Fistful of Datas", in my opinion.)

One of the biggest disappointments from TNG and DS9, is that they never revisited this planet. I know that Ron Moore wanted to, but they just never made an effort. Particularly galling given how self-indulgent the final seasons were for both shows. There's literally a dozen or more episodes from TNG S7 I would gladly turf out for a chance to have Picard and Data dress up in 1920's clothing and contend with guys in a fizzbin match.
Well, part of the reason that might not have happened was McCoy left his communicator behind and - again, non-canonically - the next Starfleet visit to Sigma Iotia found the planet had become almost an exact duplicate of a Federation Starbase...
But yeah; take that out of the equation and with Picard's love for playing 1920's detective on the holodeck, it would've been the perfect planet to have a good Picard/Dixon Hill-centric episode. He could've gone undercover on Sigma Iotia as Dixon Hill to investigate the murder of a Federation Cultural Observer or something...

Mmm... yeah that is a good one. Though it suddenly occurs to me that we've seen lots of groups of displaced humans in Star Trek. Skagara is a great example of just how many different reasons have been seen for this.
Parallel Development (Earth/'Onlies' - "Miri"), alien abduction (Skaagara - "North Star", the '37's' - Voy: "The 37's"), Preserver rescue ('Amerind' - "Paradise Syndrome", which interestingly enough actually makes "Search for Spock" the second time Kirk lost a child...), lost colonies (Terra Nova, Mariposa, just too many to list on that one)...
Let's face it, there's just so many planets and races - from all the series - that have questions unanswered about them - Angosia III from TNG: "The Hunted" for instance; whatever happened to the genetically altered war vets there? The planet from DS9: "Battlelines", did Opaka ever succeed in mediating the situation? What happened to the Kelvans that settles in Federaton space in TOS: "By Any Other Name"? Or the non-corporal race that came to DS9 to study imagination in DS9: "If Wishes Were Horses" - they were from the Delta Quadrant, were they connected to the Dominion in any way; allies, enemies, unnoticed?

Terra Nova wasn't really "lost". Archer went there to investigate why the colony hadn't made contact recently.
Terra 10 is a more interesting example. It was founded by people who wanted to find a world they could call their own, and did a reasonably good job of it. they had no interest in communicating with Earth until their colony was threatened.
Hopefully the Angosians were able to become Federation members after the issue with their genetically enhanced soldiers was cleared up. But yeah, what DID happen with them? did they rejoin their race? Are some of their race part-augment now?
That prison colony in Battle Lines was totally screwball.... that kind of tech has a wide variety of MUCH better uses than tormenting prisoners!!! It'd be very interesting if the Federation was able to acquire this tech from the race that created it.
As for Kelvans... I wonder what sort of relations the Federation has had with them? In DS9 Worf mentioned having done hand to hand combat with one, though he never mentioned why. Also Kelvan tech would seem to be something the Federation would find to be extremely useful.... but they apparently don't have it.
Ooh! another good example are those annoying aliens from Allegiance!
"My given name is Esoqq. It means fighter."
"I'll bet half the names in Chalnoth language mean fighter."
"Mizarians, your names all mean surrenderer!"

I always took Worf's statement about the Kelvans being more friendly scuffle than outright fighting. Since they were a race of conquerors, maybe they fought to vent that spirit like Klingons do.
But yes, it would be interesting what happened to them. I could easily imagine that they found a new world that they terraformed with their technology and either joined the Federation or became a neutral world that wasn't hostile to it's neighbors.
Maybe someday we they might have us travel to the Andromedia Galaxy and learn that radiation problem might caused by someone or something that ends up being a threat to the Federation. While some might say it could be Iconians, but what if it ends up being something that is a threat to the Iconians and prompted their actions?
Another one-off race that could've been expanded; the Zaldans. We see one Zaldan Starfleet Officer in season one of TNG and all we know is that they have webbed hands and find politeness and courtesy to be dishonest and prefer to be addressed with brutal honesty (I like these guys, really. Too bad we don't have a 'webbed hand' option in the Alien character creator).
I would like to find out what is happening on Talos IV. Why? Because its forbidden.
I'm actually working on a script for a possible Foundry mission regarding that...
