Input from the community would be better facilitated by input from the user on what build/playstyle you are hoping to achieve with said ship. :o

In other words, do you want a glass cannon with crazy-high spike DPS? Glass cannon with lower but more sustained DPS? Durable beam boat? Tank? Something screwy?

Take me, for example. I favor a reasonably maneuverable BFAW broadsider that is tough, but more offensive than defensive, since I have a tendency to Leeroy Jenkins straight in and blast everything in sight and need some durability to compensate. Eventually went with Fleet Avenger with MACO kit, cutting beam item set, and advanced fleet antiproton beams.

This question is a common one on the forums, but never an easy one. There is no one "best ship" for anything. It all depends on playstyle, Bridge Officer ability setup, equipment, and the ever-confusing durability vs. damage argument. There are so many different ways to play this game that pointing at one ship and saying "this is the best" is liable to start an argument (not to mention being typically inaccurate). However, there are a few GREAT ships.

The Andorian ships that you cited are one. They're popular for their 5/2 Weapons load and general versatility (the most commonly flown variant is the Engineering one, the Charal). It's also far less expensive than the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship (a VERY popular pick which can right now only be bought on the Exchange for 400+ MILLION energy credits). Several other good picks are the Tactical Escort Retrofit (and later its Fleet Variant), the Advanced/Multi-Vector Advanced Escort, and the Armitage Heavy Escort Carrier. I advise you to look at each of them and compare them to what you most want.

Andorian charal does the best sustained dps in game

Andorian kumari has the best burst

Avenger does the best cruiser dps

Jem hadar dreadnaught is the best carrier

This is all fed side of course.

Thank you all for the messages, I tend to do solo play a lot as I'm in and out of hospital, but i like heavy burst DPS as I'm a bit leeroy myself!

Currently do not have a fleet as I have been away from the game for a few months (thank buggery for being a lifer and my stipend mounting up)

Still liking the Andorian ships and might buy the 3 pack for the consoles.

my wife has the MVAE already from when we played before and im using the Breen Chel Grett Warship still XD.

The charal is good when it comes to andorians. However if your unsure try out the fleet patrol escort. Its easy to obtain and is a tanky escort.
However if your looking for an escort that is dependable and does deal loads of damage id go for the steamrunner. It can only be obtained via steam but you get an acount wide unlock for a fleet grade ship plus an aditional tier 2 version a nice team shield console and some tier 2 ground wepons. Its on sale sometimes, i got mine for about 10 ? but most of the time its at about 20 wich is still less than 2500 zen they usually charge for new zen store ships.

Another bonus is few people have it so you wont see hundrets of them. Feels good not to fly a ships everyone and their brother flys.
    Cruisers ftw!

Yeah take a loot into it. It truly is one of the best escorts ingame.
Heres the setup of my main characters steamrunner. Its a pve only build sofar but it works great in stfs and dil missions.
Its finaly nearly fully decked out, just missing one of those elite fleet cores.

If you already have the steamrunner and the chel grett you already have the two best tac ships in the game IMO. I have 3 other end game escorts and I always end up back in either the steamrunner or the chel grett.

You could always go with the excelsior retrofit if you want to mix it up. It is a great A2Bat ship. The new avenger looks promising as well, though it might also require an A2Bat to make full use of, havent flown mine yet. I can clear an entire wave of bad guys in the tau dewa sector patrol in one pass with my excelsior running A2Bat, APB and FAW. Its good fun.

The Andorian is a good pve ship, but mainly because it is simply FUN to fly. It can do an insane amount of burst or sustained damage, pending how it is set up.

Like others have mentioned, the Patrol Escort is basically the best free (rank reward) ship in the game for a fed tac. It's durable, and can do a bit of damage. It was my preferred ship after playing with the usual defiant for so long, and I don't regret using the Fleet PE when it became available. if you like it, the next step is the Steamrunner, which is basically a FPE+a wee bit more. This is still my primary ship as a Fed Tac. Best Burst DPS available? heck no. Tankiest? No. Most maneuverable? No. But it's strong in all 3 areas, and not a bad looker.

You may have more fun in the Andorian, but you'll be more effective in the Steamrunner, IMO.

If the Tac skills are the same (OP) as the last time I played regularly (six months ago), you will do fine with a T1 Connie.
