SWTOR has announced that like WoW and other MMOs they'll be adding the ability to change species/race to their game in their upcoming 2.1 update. Now can we have that option in STO?
It's not like this is the first time this feature has been requested. Here are several other threads and posts made in the past asking for this.
Was on Tribble the other day, they have both reputation and species respec tokens on there. 20k dilithium each. Didn't test it though cause my rommie only had 8k dilithium.
[6:07] [Combat (Self)] Your Dual Antiproton Banks - Overload III deals 166213 (61268) Antiproton Damage(Critical) to Gateway.

that is retraitnot change race. I know i would like to be able to change my main toon to a liberated borg
Q: (akpa) Will we see race and gender change token in C-Store with this expansion?
STO Team: We don?t have any plans at this time to implement a race or gender change token, but it?s not entirely out of the question. You won?t see it with the launch of Legacy of Romulus, though.
So to answer the OP's question ... no, it's not something they're working on right now.
The new trait system will rule out one need for a re-species token. The thing I really want is a career change token, though that seems even less likely.

So long as certain trait and costume items are locked to species choice, it really doesn't.
Race token yes please. I want my human changed to joined trill now that leadership is nuked.
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”
Still want Scoty's Kilt and Jacket form ST: IV and good foot wear. My Orion can not even use Orion Sandals while using the Klingon leather skirts.
I always thought it would be nice for Orion women to get the thigh high boots kinda like the Orion on DS9 who dances between those two Klingon weapon vendors.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

It would still be useful though.
For example I only have 1 liberated Borg due to their current limitation on not being able to take Elusive, which in the new system they will have access to.

I've actually heard this more than once. I've actually heard people say the reason they haven't bought a lifetime sub is because their only motivation to buy one is the lib Borg BUT they don't want to make a new toon from scratch. They've said that if they could just make an existing toon into a lib Borg they would jump on it. I've also heard the same kind of thing for Caitian and Ferasans.

I didn't ask if they ARE working on it. I asked if they COULD work work on it.

How so? Ever consider that some of us might be sick and tired of a particular species we selected ages ago but since we've leveled our toons to max and loaded them up in gear we don't want to just get rid of them? Ever think that it's not the traits we have a problem with but the appearance of the species?
All of this is fine, but what has STO to do with SWTOR??
Just pointing out the obvious fact that it's yet another competitive MMO to offer a basic feature to several MMOs that some of us have been begging for since BETA.
This was my first thought. Why should we care what SWTOR does? Star Trek is better, anyways
This isn't a Star Trek V Star Wars argument. The reason I and others care what SWTOR is doing is simple. This is a feature that some of us have been asking for since BETA (over three years) and have yet to see implemented. However, SWTOR has been around for far less and at their players' request they've chosen to implement this. It's upsetting because it's a request that comes up over and over and yet there seems to be no actual progress from the team's end on fulfilling it. All we ever hear is maybe, not sure, we need more feedback and so on.

I'm replying to this because it won't actually let me create a post - says I'm not registered long enough despite using my PWI login details that are over 2 years old now.
We already have race change.
No it's not at YOUR convenience, it will just happen randomly.
So cross your fingers and wait and you too will go to the tailor one day to change/add a costume and find you've magically become a different race.
I WAS an Alien, Now I'm a Romulan and 7 inches taller, due to the racial minimum heights Cryptic added that violate canon.
I still have the Alien passives, not the Romulan ones, but now I'm far taller than I wanted to be and CAN'T change that.
[Ezri Dax and Counselor Troi are 1.5 inches shorter than the min heights allowed here for their races. Uhura (TOS not reboot) is 1 inch shorter, so is Vina from the Pilot, so is B'Elanna Torres.
"Dr. Pulaski" 1/2 inch shorter .) Probably dozens more over 4 series and the movies.
So why on earth did they choose 5'6" min heights when finding out this stuff takes literally seconds?]
Side Note: Why doesn't the spell checker on a Star Trek forum recognize the words "Romulan" or "Dax" or "Troi" or "Uhura" or "B'Elanna?"?
A career respec token would be a much more useful service, for me at least. I made the mistake of not researching enough and assumed science would fill a useful role in endgame PVE, only to find out it's woefully outclassed by tac and that I will forever be a second rate pilot who needs to push every advantage available to keep up. Not to mention not being romulan on top now, as well.

Don't necro threads. It's against the forum rules.

#1, do not zombie old threads. Anything over 30 days is off limits.
#2, No one cares how tall Ezri or Troi are because people tend to make themselves taller so they can be more heroic in their story. You can make your boffs shorter then you and still have the illusion that everyone is the correct height.
#3, These are not Star Trek forums. They are Perfect World forums, and the PW team has not bothered to add every Trek name to the spellchecker.
So to answer the OP's question ... no, it's not something they're working on right now.
Are we willing to pay a gazillion Zen or DIL for it? I guess If I could get to keep my pet character regardless of sex and race it's worth it....take my money away and sign me up as well :D:D

The hippocrites are out in full force again. It's also against the forum rules to quote or reply to a violation, so you might want to follow your own advice if it bothers you.
why does a trait table rule out a re-species token? first off there are species specifiv traits some want to have. and furthermore i still want my first toon i started with to be BORG now.
i dont want to start all over just to have him borg.
yes it is a cosmetic wish of mine. non the less its makable and im not the only one i assure you
EDIT;: sry didnt see was a necro thread. answered because i saw it up

Which is a shame really, considering how the new traits system has change the face of things.
