New Player Races?

thay8472thay8472 Member Posts: 6,165 Arc User
Not that I want to level up or grind through the reputation again... but regardless I'm curious as to what new races (if any) are coming out.

Suliban, Hirogen, Edo ?

Maybe during the next summer event we could unlock Risians? or Breen for the winter event?

Or how we can unlock the Reman species for the our Romulan characters....

Maybe for completing tier 5 omega... we could unlock... the Deferi?

And for the Nukara rep we could unlock... uhh... someone else?

The Edo and Risian I think are too peaceful (generally) to be incorporated into a faction; the same would go for the Deferi. The Suliban (alongside the Yridian and Acamarian) have potential to show up within the Republic Faction though.

The Breen and Hirogen? I'm not too sure. The Hirogen seem to be more mercenary than anything else, and the Breen, they're quite xenomorphic.

As for our beloved Federation; you've got the Deltan, and for the Klingons, probably the Talarian?

Short of that, your guess (or the guess of anyone else) is as good as mine.

Suliban, maybe for the Republic. I think I heard it mentioned as a loose possibility along with the Acamarians...

Hirogen, unlikely as they're a 'villain' race (yeah, makes no sense to me either. You'd think they'd work with whoever would give them the 'most worthy prey' to 'hunt')

    Edo... Why? Risans... Why?

Breen... maybe, they might make an interesting storyline - how did they learn of the Preserver archive? Why were they hunting it? Did that have anything to do with their fight with Kahless? ...Do you mean just as a race or as a faction?

Reman - pay the Zen or unlock Rom Rep Tier 5. It's worth it, the Reman species trait is good with perception, exploit, and expose...

Deferi - ugh, whiney little fatalists...

I doubt new species could be profitable, at least without re-species token. Thus I don't really see them adding more.

Edo... first thing that popped into my head after i watched their episode yesterday with the crazy space station thing in orbit.

Risian... summer event took place on Risa... so meh

New species worked when the Caitian and Ferasan were introduced. If people want them enough, they'll purchase them. Whilst I wouldn't personally wish to run around with a Deltan character, I wouldn't turn away a Deltan Bridge Officer.

And that's the catch, it has to be something stand-out enough that it couldn't just be made by making a human and saying "Oh, this is an El-Aurian/Sigma Iotian/Centaurian/Coridian/etc." and enough people also have to want it to make it worth programming in as an individual race and not just making the parts available under "Alien".

So far, the biggest of those seem to be Cardassian, Vorta and Jem'hadar, but Cryptic keeps giving us the 'wait and see' response that we'll get those races when 'the game is expanded to include the Gamma Quadrant'...

    Lets see

Mentioned (and achievable in my opinion)
    - Suliban
    - Acamarian
    - Deltan
    - Talarian

What I would also see possible
    - Ocampa and Talaxian. We're going to the Delta Quadrant, whether you like it or not. And these are lilely to join the Fed.
    - Kazon. Afore mentioned, but then KDF.
    - Denobulans & Coridanites (they all were in the Coalition of Planets)
    - XINDI!!!!!!!! Although not my idea, they could work really well as a Federation extra. Think of it: a species 5 pack (better 4, I don't see Xindi Aquatic happening any time soon). A bunch of new shiny ships that might have something new and that could be bundled.

And last, but not least............. meh I can't think of any other I WANT ingame (face it: Bynars are boring).

I'm still amazed they released a Boff-able Breen (and Jem Hadar) before they did a Cardassian.

As per the other half of your comment, I wonder how hard it actually is to create a new species, especially for the Federation. Deltan for example? Surely they're just a carbon copy of the Orion (without the hair)?

The Talaxian, Ocampa and Kazon I couldn't really see before late, but as you've stated, we're going into the Delta Quadrant now, so these species are more likely to crop up, and the Kazon would be perfect candidates for the Klingon Empire.

The Denobulans & Coridanites? Not sure there would be such a huge request for them.

Whilst the Xindi would be awesome. To grant Federation players four new species when the Klingons get none would be unfair. Likewise, splitting up the Xindi between the Federation and Klingons would seem... lazy (especially with how they were left in Enterprise). They'd either need to have the Xindi available to every faction, or, dare I say it, turn them into a 4th mini faction.

What about unlocking the Suliban from a doff mission on Suliban freighter.

If the doff mission is a critical sucsess you can then make a Suliban. As all factions can go there and do the doff missions the Suliban can join the Federation, Klingon or Romulan empires.

Since this is something people keep bringing up: WHY?
Is this a case of "they look similar then they must be stuck together"?
    Then what about the Efrosians?
    http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/5/5b/Efrosian_Federation_President.jpg
They also have forehead bumps. Based on that logic they should also be a Klingon race. (Sorry Cosmic)

Is it a case of "they're the bad guys and KDF is the bad guy faction"?
Or "they're dumb, Klingons are dumb, let's throw them together"?

Keep in mind the Kazon are so stupid they literally believe a line on the floor makes a prison cell they don't need to guard. I'm not kidding, we saw this in more than one episode.
And the Borg refuse to assimilate them because even they think they're worthless.
What do they offer to the Klingons?

While they wouldn't be new races. How about when a character gets to level 50 (in this case a, Fed Bolian.

The player can then purchase an Item of the C-store which will allow the player to use the Bolian race on the Klingons and or Romulans.

    Ablative pointmen.

They'd be easy to recruit. The Kazon wish to be taken seriously, the Klingons can offer them that (to a degree). As for what the Klingons would get out of it, cannon fodder?

    Imagine this setting: Klingon prison.

Klingon Warden: You, Kazon! Guard these prisoners!
Kazon: What are these vertical things you use to signify the borders of the cell?
    Klingon Warden: They are bars.
Kazon: Bars? No, a bar is a place where you drink and fight. What do you call these things?
Klingon Warden I told you we call them bars!
Kazon: They are unnecessary and the name is stupid. You Klingons are stupid. You don't use the proper way to close a cell and you name it after a place to fight an drink.

*at this point, the warden unholstes his disruptor and vaporizes the Kazon*

Klingon Warden: Okay, now get me someone competent. If that fails, at least someone more competent than HIM! Ask the Ferengi merchant if he wants to earn some extra latinum, at least he knows how to build a prison cell.

The Kazon are no race the Klingons would respect, and they ally only with races they can at least respect in some way. And if you look for example at the Romulan Commander in "Balance of Terror", I can see why they allied with those. Kazon? They have FTL-capable starships and are too dense to find a planet with water on it.

Or something like the standard Boff recruiting assignments we have now. Get a Suliban Boff by doing an evaluation, blah blah.

I honestly think the issue that has delayed the Suliban release is that the devs took a while to decide what traits/abilities they should have. We know the art assets exist already.

    - Suliban possible it almost heavily hinted that they could join the republic when u meet them.

    - Ocampa, Denobulans Cardies and XINDI i highly doubt they will make a separate species since they added them to the alien creator, it just seems that in cryptics mind if you want one of these then make a alien captain.

    Starships that they stole and had no idea how to use effectively. Let's face it, people, the Kazon were a bad idea of "gangs in space" made worse by the fact that for three years the average writer/producer discussion for Voyager went something like this;

Writer: "I have an idea for a new race to be the bad guys in this week's episode."
Producer: "Aw, we'll just use the Kazon again. We've already established them as the bad guys."

Until somebody pointed out that fighting Kazon every week did not give the impression that Voyager was making any distance towards the Alpha Quadrant.
