Patcher Hanging Up

At about 63-65%... consistently. Generally takes a few seconds to get to 65%, then hangs. Have let it sit for 10 minutes like that with no appreciable change. Have tried 5 times in the last half hour.

Anyone else?

When it does, press control+x to see which file it is. My guess is shaderCache.hogg is the culprit. If so, check this out: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=738971

    Hope it helps!

Doesn't work. Just continually redownloads the same file.

You guys seriously need to offer manual patches. There's literally zero reason in the entire universe not to.

yes this is my fourth attempt to load the game. Half way through the cryptic loading popup it stops and crashes.... a ticket has been filed on each attempted but failed instance. I'm not glad its happening to others but am also relieved that it's not just me! Is there some thing I need to do some way to correct this or is it a bug that is something on the cryptic end. any help appreciated.

I have tried several times to download todays patch, and it keeps getting stuck at 66% complete. I deleted the shadderhog.cache file that Branflakes had said to delete, but the file keeps stalling at 66%. I cannot believe that no one else has come across this issue, they have only had different issues that I could find in the forums.

If anyone else had this problem, what did you do to fix it? I have tried for 2.5 hours now to finish this with no success.

I'm trying the shaderCache.hogg delete trick...long time later, at 75% of the file downloaded and waiting to see if it repeats.

In the meantime, I'm watching the City of Titans kickstarter for entertainment. Word to PWE....

    [some minutes later]

I seem to have gotten past the .hogg file and it's downloading the GameClient now. Slow as all get-out, but happening.

same here, i tried deleting the said file... no fix.

i hit ctrl-x and it seems that the shaderfile is just sooo massive... ive been sitting here for an hour and the shader file itself is only at 17%

some QA wouldnt hurt Cryptic

eh, that's not the only thing broke. people can't even get past the loading screen without it crashing

From what I can see, CogentCo can't handle the load. My ping times are <100ms for all nodes "south" of them, but the moment it hits their Atlas cluster the times shoot up by a factor of five to ten.

Seriously, it patches fine till it hits 65%, and now its going like maybe +.1% per 10 seconds or so. What gives?

It could be a huge file that's talking a long time to download, and/or it could just be a lot of people patching at the same time and slowing everyone down.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Mine won't even go to 65%. It gets to 16% then stops and reverts back to 0 and starts over. Punishment for being a lifer. EVERY patch takes forever, and it only gets worse with each new one. They blame the players who complain for not doing upgrades or not having expensive systems...well my stuff is all up to date and this patch is almost non-existent. This Star Trek game could give them an epic fanbase if they just gave a **** about us. Too bad that will never happen.

Well, I deleted the .hogg file and the folder it was in (it worked last time)...now it isn't patching AT ALL. It's literally doing nothing right now. 5 minutes with NO patching being done. Amazing.

When the patcher hangs, X out, (not cancel) and restart launcher. This worked for me but it took 4 hrs to load (on a 3G aircard) on a well site in the oilfield somewhere in east Texas. Ready to play now!!!!
Oil, because Matter-Antimatter reactors haven't been invented yet... Please Hurry!

Sometimes if you close the patcher and relog in, it may be stuck, if it is stuck, close it again, then go back to open the patcher, it would allow to patch it without problems, I have noticed that it is random. It does work, but if it is stuck, close it, then reopen it, and it worked. :)

Forgive me my humor, but there are at least 3 other threads on this same issue. All having the same problem, based on the maintainence from this A.M. and to the other posters who believe otherwise.... It seems that this problem is considerably more widespread than many realise.

Let's see now... I have deleted and re-installed. No joy. I have tried the compatabillity gimmick in xp 2, win 2000, vista and 98. No joy. I have gone to a friends house, who has a jacked up gaming system and so called ultra high speed ( and wide bandwidth) cablenet. No joy there either. But yet I still have people telling me I am stupid and my system sucks?

The patch gets to around 64-65% then attempts to acquire the shader.hogg file, gets to a certain percentage of that in the CTRL-X screen then poof! 'Error 14 connection to server was lost'. Over and over again.

I've tried turning off on-demand patching, which made the game try to patch almost 4 gig (I'm on a heavily metered bandwidth allowance, this aint on the cards) with no guarantee it wouldn't stall in the exact same place again.

I even had a friend of mine who has patched successfully send me his version of the file, dropped it into the relevant directory then forced verification- and then the client STILL attempts to get the damn thing and therefore fails.

I have no idea what else to try other than to just completely forget about STO for now and hope someone at Cryptic decides to stop TRIBBLE around and fixes this issue.

This doesn't work. You've been told that in at least two different threads now. Can we please get some help with this issue instead of a run around?

By the way, one of the threads saying your "fix" doesn't work is the very thread you linked.

I logged in just fine this morning. After the issues I had last night with the launcher trying to update, and it trying to re-download Thursday's patch, all seems normal. Launcher update check went fine, it didn't try to re-download the patch, I logged in to my characters fine, etc. I really don't understand why I was having so much trouble last night unless it was a major problem on their end of the line that corrected itself overnight or something.
