Title says it all. I plan on a plasma build if that changes anything.

Mvam has my vote. Lt. Cmdr sci on an escort is great for heals and access to a Grav well is awesome.

Defiant will probably have a wasted tac slot.
    Chive on and prosper, eh?

Thanks! I'll consider using the Multi-Vector because the guy below me told me to wait for more responses like I haven't read anything or done other research.

Don't you think you should wait more than 30 minutes and 2 replies before you make a decision or are you in a rush?? This is what is wrong with the younger crowd on STO, always in too big of a hurry to "finish".

Take some time, give others a chance to send you their opinions. THEN make a decision. If you're in this big of a rush now for a game, I'd hate to see what you're like in Real Life.

There are literally hundreds of other players who will have some great suggestions for you. Give them a chance...for your own sake.

Just a couple of threads below in the Academy forum, there is one called "choose your high-end escort"... I can't be more explicit about the topic. Don't you want to make up your own mind, based on your own style and some factual criteria ?
    Escorts are diverse.

i'm not sure if this is a question or a statement. you are planning to have a multivector fight a defiant? or do you want to know if the multivector is good against a defiant?

take it from someone who has the multivector. the ship has excellent health for an escort, and a boff setup that can be worked to be really awesome. defiant has a bit more flexibility with the tactical department, meaning DPS is alot easier with the defiant, however the lower hull and short supply of heals will mean you really need to rely on speed and damage to get you out of tough situations.

the multivector is alot more universal. it can be a tank, or a escort with little work to change it from one to the other. the same build on my engineer works perfectly to make it a tank, whereas if i use the same build on a tactical, i can dish out vast amounts of DPS usually keeping up with a fleet defiant. both builds can survive on their own decently well under difficult situations, and both have high DPS. the multivector function is really only helpful to increase your turnrate, or to get a slight buff to weapons. as the other sections dont boost DPS enough to make a difference and die fairly easily, the bonuses that each section states is all you really get from the console besides a cool show. also this console is horrible to use in combat, as you come to a complete halt long enough for any decent defiant to do a 180 and take advantage of the stationary target.

as for a plasma build, suit yourself. i personally like antiproton, but i understand the bonuses to plasma from the romulan set can make the exotic damage really nifty. and if you're planning to fight defiants, the bleedthrough with plasma will definitely help kill them while you're busy trying to lock onto the fast little brats. lol

If your goal is simply to do sustained damage in an elite PVE environment, then your probably looking at a very similar build, with a very similar play style on both ships.

Hear is a cookie cutter sustained damage PvE ability build for the Fleet Advanced Escort, with two boffs to switch for AOE or Single Target modes:

    C. Tactical: Torpedo Spread 1, Cannon Scatter Volley 1, Torpedo Spread 3, Cannon Scatter Volley 3.

    C. Tactical: Torpedo High Yield 1, Torpedo High Yield 2, Cannon Rapid Fire 2, Cannon Rapid Fire 3.

Lt. C. Science: Polarize Hull 1, Hazard Emitters 2, Transfer Shield Strength 3.

Lt. Tactical: Tactical Team 1, Atk. P. Beta 1.

Lt. Enginear: E. Power to Engines 1, E. Power to Shields 2.

    En. Tactical: Tactical Team 1.

Hear is a cookie cutter sustained damage PvE ability build for the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit, with two boffs to switch for AOE or Single Target modes:

    C. Tactical: Torpedo Spread 1, Cannon Scatter Volley 1, Torpedo Spread 3, Cannon Scatter Volley 3.

    C. Tactical: Torpedo High Yield 1, Torpedo High Yield 2, Cannon Rapid Fire 2, Cannon Rapid Fire 3.

    Lt. C. Tactical: Tactical Team 1, Atk. P. Beta 1. Atk. P. Beta 2

Lt. Science: Polarize Hull 1, Hazard Emitters 2.

Lt. Enginear: E. Power to Engines 1, E. Power to Shields 2.

    En. Tactical: Tactical Team 1.

As you can see the ability set on both ships is nearly identical. The only difference is that the Advanced escort has a transfer shield strength 3, and the tactical escort has an attack pattern beta 2.

Utilizing the builds above both ships have more then enough tank, more then enough DPS and enough speed to solo an entire side of KASE. Taking probe duty, popping the generators, the transformers and both elite cubes without help and without being taken out.

The choice therefore comes down to four questions:
    1) Would you prefer a little more tank so that you don't have to be quite so situationaly aware?
    2) Would you prefer to keep doing the maximum amount of damage at all times?
    3) Would you prefer to sacrifice both of these advantages for a Lt.C science ability?
    4) Would you like to maximize your alpha strike for PVP?

If you answered yes to 1 or 3 go with the advanced escort. If you answered yes to 2 or 4 go with the tactical.

Both are fine ships, I consider them to be very competitive with my Mobius, to the extent that for PVE with a high DPS team I prefer the Tactical escort over the Mobius, and for PVE with a less efficient team I prefer the Advanced escort. The 5 tactical consoles do make a big enough difference to DPS that I do feel a little week for a while when ever I switch from one of these ships to the Mobius.

I refer everyone to this, but my main thinking is "What are the advantages of the Defiant?". And no one says I wont ever try a different one.
