These are not the Boffs you're looking for...

This has been bugging me for a while. Time to actually say something about it.

The Exchange. That wonderful world of capitalism and exploitation. Loved by some, loathed by others.

I decided today that the Boffs I had on my new Feddy, and those on reserve, really were useless and I wanted new ones. So I made a trip to the Exchange to see what exorbitant prices people were charging. And even though I had selected the 'Only show usable items' option selected, I had to wade through 230 KDF Boffs before spotting my first Bolian Engineer. The poor chap was terrified, surrounded by these less than friendly Nausicaans, Orions, Gorn, and the likes.

Why, oh why, is it still not possible to just see results that apply only to your faction, or class, even with the aforementioned option selected? When I'm on my Tac, looking for usable kits, I don't really want to have to specify 'tactical' in the search bar. Ofcourse I can, but I just don't want to.

Am I the only one who's bugged by this?
Oh, and 'yes' is NOT an acceptable answer. :D

You could just search for specific species you want.

    I loved this. :P

    I would expand upon this.

There should be a search option that enables you to search out specific traits. The time I've spent searching for a specific Boff with a specific trait, that's all lost on me. Why I'd ever want a Tactical Boff with Superior Creative is beyond me.

But yeah, there should be a 'search by faction' option, in addition to a 'search by trait' option. Granted if you were looking for a Bolian you can type 'Bolian', but what if you're looking for a Klingon or an Alien? They can be used by both factions.

I agree, I keep looking for doffs but I can't find the ones I want. Like if they have resolve or something like that. I have to look at each one to find the ones I need. I found one that had the trait that I needed, turned out that he was KDF. So there this gorn sits. On my fed ship. Hanging out in the bar I guess... I can't select him for missions, and I don't have the heart to kick him off my ship. After all, no one else wanted him on their ship. And after all, he has not caused any problems, so he can hang out in ten forward.

The search and filter tools for the exchange are useless I found, so I've been in the habit of spelling out exactly what I'm looking for. In the case of boffs it would be 'human engineer' or 'orion science' and so on.

But for casual browsing a filter for faction would be very useful. For boffs, doffs, reward packs and no doubt more. I can't see it being overly difficult to add either.

But what if you're not looking for a specific species? Generally I couldn't care less what species a Boff or Doff is, as long as they have the skills or traits I need.

I totally agree with this, at least searching doff's you have lots of different categories which makes the search a little bit less painful.

It almost seems like searching for boff's was an after thought and something Cryptic intended to fix but has either totally forgot about doing that or just don't give a TRIBBLE...

Why bother ... Rom boffs > all other boffs (including embassy). Min-maxers, either roll Romulan or go bust.

Although I believe that the exchange needs a complete overhaul on its searching abilities, filters, and categories there are ways to find what you want.

You were looking for a bridge officer, unfortunately the filter of "only show usable items" does not work for bridge officers so if you are looking for a faction specific one, you have to specific species. If you are looking for a profession specific one, you should also specify profession. Personally I think that boffs and doffs alike should have their abilities/traits specified in their name such as "Romulan Tactical Officer [SRO] [TT1] [APB1] [CRF2] [CRF3]. This would enable easier searching for specific abilities.

In the meantime (hopefully the exchange will get overhauled sooner rather than later), use partial string matches to help you find what you want, for instance next time you want a Bolian Engineer, search Bolian Eng and if everything is wai then you should only see bolian engs and you can pick out what one you want.
    pvp = small package

In fact, you should be able to search using and/or when it comes to traits/procs etc. As it is now, you can only search for an exact match. Even as a relatively experienced player, I often find this rather frustrating.

Yes, I know that you can specify this or that. But, as said earlier, the only specifics I'm looking for in Bridge Officers is their faction, and their skills. I don't give a rodents behind about their race, and I sure as heck don't want to spend half an hour extra searching this race, then that race, then back to this race only to find that the officer that did catch my eye was bought by someone else.

    Just..... Grrr.
