Game Crashing after recent patch

After the recent patch the game crashes everytime after the character screen at the 90%ish region.
at the bottom screen stands something like reloading materials. and then it goes bonkers.
i can change the graphics or anything in the character screen and i see updated skins for the breen, however the ships normally hover over the players character are now invisivble, just barely seeable.
then i chose the toon i like, and it always stops in the loading screen with a connection time out, or connection to server lost.
so basically, if this set goes live.... i cant play the game anymore

as i first played the voth STF today, are the antiprotons beams of them for anyone else bugged?

Also, my Alienware laptop does not seem to like Tribble anymore ?! Its keyboard illumination lights flash on and off instead of remaining constantly on, and I even had an instance where the games volume abruptly jumped to maximum all by itself ?!!
