Do any of our listeners not know how to find Foundry missions? I can do a little spot on that next review.

The problem I see with the current format is that it kinda kills some teamwork. When a person can hop into a public queue and will still probably get the option and still finish it in about 10 minutes it make it hard to justify forming a pre-made team with fleet mates. As long as a missions is faster then getting 5 people together you will get people who would rather pug it. What is missing is the sense of a tight knit community and reaching out to people that we had under the old system. While it was not as profitable as the current stf system you never felt alone in a crowd. I do admit that the current queue system is still better then typing "lf2m infected va fed deeper" into zone chat for an hour and that is the only thing I do not miss.
The "greater the reward, the greater the price". The more Free Zen, the more privacy you lose. As hinted in the podcast, you start to get hounded by spam email, telemarketers and other types of solicitation. And the King of the Zen Rewards - signing up for the Credit Cards. Please don't. It's the worst because the deals they offer are absolutely terrible and you are committed to them for years. And if you aren't careful, there goes your credit rating.
So if you are desperate for Zen, then convert your Dilithium. Else, you'll likely get something you didn't bargain for.
Not only that, the new Format killed socializing in STO.
I mean when was the last time anyone got in a lengthy conversation in an STF or a Fleet Action? Think about it Cryptic.
If you need the old style client, you'll either need to download it through an alternative means or you can get it through Steam. You won't need Steam to run it, but Steam does allow you to download the old client completely free. You can then choose to keep it in the SteamApps folder in the Program Files directory, move it to where ever like an external HDD or even just run it through Steam with all your Cryptic games. All you need to do is launch the client via the .exe in the Star Trek Online folder, NO MORE ARC.
I repeat, this does not require you to run Steam, just use Steam to acquire the STO client and who doesn't have a Steam account now a days.
LTS, here since...when did this game launch again?
Regarding C-store ships:
I totally agree that C-store ships have become virtually irrelevant. On one hand, STO may be suffering from a bit of saturation when it comes to ships. There are just sooooooo many ships and ship variants in-game that from this point on, I think it will be increasingly more difficult to come up with something fresh and new yet stills resembles canon. Also, as you mentioned, the Fleet versions and the lock box ships are usually more powerful or have better consoles than what the C-store currently has to offer.
I would propose a "fair" solution which keeps PWE's interests in mind while also bringing some relevance back to the C-store: Offer "limited time only" chances to buy lock-box ships from the C-store. I would also do the same for lock box ship consoles.
If I may use the Temporal Lock box as an example:
Both the Temporal Science and the Temporal Destroyer were available. Each ship has a different universal console, but the two consoles make a set. Now...maybe I was lucky enough to roll one of the two ships after opening god-knows-how-many lockboxes....am I really going to have to open god-knows-how-many-more lockboxes for JUST THE OTHER CONSOLE? That's ridiculous from my point of view because the cost (and potentially time) would far outwiegh the actual value. Let me buy the other console from the C-store...even if it's only offered for a limited time.
Taking it one step further...and I'm aiming at the overall economic problem a bit here....the entire C-store seems to be less and less relevant with regards to useful items. I suppose people are still buying tons of Master Keys (WHICH I REFUSE TO BUY LEST MY BANK FILLS UP WITH DOFF PACKS!!!), or fleet modules (which are fairly useless to me until our fleet reaches a higher Tier).
Outside of that...my Zen can only serve for one purpose....Buying dilithium in order to fullfill THE OBSCENE amounts of dilithium required for fleet projects and reputation projects!!!!
I love playing STO. I love the way Cryptic has set and maintained our expectations .....but I'm really starting to resent the ruthlessness that PWE tries to make us spend money. I'm totally fine with having "a C-store". I'd even be fine with somekind of a "Season Pass" for some DLC...but I'm not so warm and fuzzy towards the whole Dilithium/Zen sink found in these rep and fleet projects. The Current Dilithium Refinement Cap is way to low, and the more I play, the more it's obviously set that way in order to push more people to spend their Zen on Dilithium.
Dilithium as a currency was positioned as a "WIN" for STO players providing us with a free method to acquire Zen. Rightfully, putting a short cap on the amount of refined dilithium per day was PWE/Cryptic's way of making it an intelligent business decision as well.
HOWEVER....If the demand for "different "C-store items(ie. things ither than keys and fleet mods) continues to decline, then this no longer becomes a win-win scenario for both parties. Why would someone grind dilithium for Zen? Especially since the need for dilithium has become far more pertinent in-game than the need for Zen!
Now, before I slip off my soapbox...or fall off it from a barrage of rotten tomatoes....I'd also like to say that many people feel that the fleet advancement system is too difficult for smaller fleets.
While, as a general statement, I may agree...I've realized over time that the only requirement for fleet projects which CONSISTENTLY slows down project completion is.....wait for it..................wait for it............... Dilithium!
Once my character hits max level, the natural inclination is to try to outfit him with the best loot. Much of the best gear comes from the REP System. This makes it virtually impossible for me to support my fleet and advance my max-level toon at the same time. Seems rather counter-intuitive if you ask me.
Please help Cryptic!
RobRay Out!
I agree with the ship saturation issue. There are a lot of options for ships on the federation side but when we look at science vessel in particular the vesta seems to out class all the others, including the fleet versions of science vessels. What I think might breath new life into science vessels is by making aux beam arrays that are equitable to any science vessels. Since most of these ships are federation you can make them all phaser and then leave different energy beam arrays available when you unlock other ships. Example: Aux tetryon beam arrays only become availible when you get an orb weaver.
This might make people want to get fleet science ships and any fleet vessel still takes fleet ship modules so cryptic makes their money.
Great show! Just wanted to vaguely chime in on the Community Question and say that with the availability of the Fleet Ships, the C-Store ships are very much unnecessary. I believe that having different "skins" for players to purchase on the C-Store if they would like their ships to look like while maintaining the stats that they can get from the Fleet ships would be a better approach.
I am strongly apposed having ships that are so much more powerful or that give the edge for one player who is a gold player, or who has the money to devote to a game, while the player who is a silver member, or who don't have the money to put into the game wouldn't get that edge. I think in the end if C-Store ships were given the edge over the ships that are available in game, it would inevitably leave the lower income players in the dust, and we would more than likely turn players who love the game away from it, in my opinion. I know it did for me for a while, however, I am with Elijah on the fact that I don't need, want, or care for the C-Store ships, I have plenty of ships in my inventory that satisfy my needs.
To touch on something that James said, I completely agree with the fact that the D'Deridex ship is to slow. In my opinion its like trying to fly a water bed with mounted disruptors in space. I to stuck with my Mogai when my Romulan advanced to that level. I do think, however, the new tactical warbirds are a great addition to the Romulan faction.
Now here's a question for you guys from the sound room, what would you think if Cryptic were to create some science heavy Romulan ship?
Keep up the great work,
Jay Nighthammer
I don't know that science ships will EVER sell on their own in the C-Store. I can only assume that a majority of players want more 'splosions!! The only way they'll get a science vessel to sell on the C-Store would be to include it in a bundle -- like they did with the Vesta & Odyssey class ships.
