Just rambling, and loving my Mirror Qin...

TLDR: Likey Mirror Qin. Want L50 Birok-skin Somraw. Any tips?
Ok, so I'm a recent convert to the Klingon side. Having started as a Fed captain, and having aspired to, (cliche incoming), the Galaxy retrofit, though with a Tac captain, I was pretty happy, but I wanted to expand to the Dark side, of course. After wetting my feet with a Fed escort, I plunged into Tac Klingon Excess. And I LOVE it. It's a completely different feel from Fed side, and they really did a great job making you feel the bubbling anger of a Klingon warrior.
And the ship designs - as much as I love me some 1701-D SexMachine looks, (I still think it's the most beautiful ship yet, though the Wells and the Mobius are growing on me...) I have found a mistress - the Mirror Qin, particularly the Birok class. Crazy Tetryon Cannon pewpewpew! It performs nearly flawlessly. Best Exchange buy I ever made. To me, that ship's shape fairly drips Aggression. And the BOFF stations are JUST what I want!
Here's my issue: I'm approaching L50. The Fleet Qin subbed my Eng ensign for a Tac, and the Garumba, nice as it is, is kinda yucky looking. In order to get the same BOFF stations, I have to go Somraw/Fleet Somraw - but there's the rub - no Birok! I can't get my lovely Birok class shape, at least according to the STO Wiki - maybe there's info missing there, I can only hope...
Am I doomed? Is there hope? Am I missing the boat by not pursuing a career in BoP's? Any tips on getting this ship even better? (I'm just starting my Rep grind as of last night, though as adequately as my budget-A2B Galaxy performed, I suspect a much more pleasant journey with these beastly ships...)

Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.

Do you want the awesome Birok design? Or the superior Boff layout? That was a tough choice for me too. I ended up just keeping my Mirror Qin even though it's not a fleet level ship. If your short-term goal is simple rep grind and general PvE, then the Mirror Qin will be just fine. I went through many ESTFs in mine.
As for your boff setup, I'd just go with a simple and easy escort-type setup. Cannon Rapid fire/scatter volley and either Torpedo high yield/Spread or Beam Overload will do quite nicely.
One last thing, don't let the nay-sayers nay you about the pivot point thing. It's not that big of a deal, it just looks awkward.

Generally, I'm thinking just one beam (DB maybe) up front for BO1, also considering going for Omega Force set and runnign DEM2 maybe for added fast-shield denial...

If you want to have a Birok class and 10 consoles, the only way to go is a fleet Qin raptor. The catch is - it has the Boff layout of the regular Qin raptor. Good thing is that, in all honesty, you don't need the 10 consoles that bad to be competitive, especially in PvE. And in PvE, the mirror Qin does a great job.
Please, for the love of Trek, don't waste a Boff slot on DEM on the Raptor. :P For example, I have my defensive Boff abilities like this - Lt.Engi - EptS,Aux2Structural; Ens.Engi -EptS; Lt.Sci - TSS, HE.
And don't feel that the game is throwing you in any direction, that's why we have multiple ship classes in the KDF: BoP, Raptor, Destroyer, Battlecruiser, FD Cruiser, Science ship & Carrier. Just pick your poison.
As an aside, how do you guys pronounce Qin? I've been pronouncing it as 'Quin' but I don't know if that's actually right.
I don't mind the BOFF layout of the Qin, mainly because I can use 2 Patterns, 2 Cannon skills and 2 Torpedo skills.
But for all the Cannon only build you lose something.
If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.

Personally, I've been pronouncing it "Kin", although there's also room for it to be "Chin" if it runs closer to a chinese pronunciation.
As to the OP's question: I suggest you continue to do what you enjoy in game. After all, you're having fun right now and the primary raison d'etre for any game is too have fun.
I like it when I see people still using mirror options I love my mirror voquv for pve you really don't need the extra 10% hull and shields
PVP is another matter it's a rich mans game in there
So I say if your having fun you carry on and enjoy your birok
My Klingon flies a regular Qin in Birok skin and I couldn't be happier. I have a couple of BoP's Hegh'ta and B'rel,... I fly them from time to time, but I always come back to my Qin,... I call it my "Baby Battlecruiser" because of the position and shape of the nacelles,... lovin' it!
While my Klingon ship is a prime universe Qin, 2 of my 3 regular use Fed ships are MU's, A Patrol and an Advanced Escort. I love them. Don't need any fleet stuff, my ships do just fine.
All that being said, I prefer the Prime Qin to the MU version simply because of Boff layout. Either one is an awesomely simple piece of Klingon engineering and I wouldn't fly anything else regularly.

And welcome to the KDF. If you ever need someone for STFs, fleet actions, Defera runs, etc. hit me up handle is same as forum.
I have been running the Mirror Qin since I hit 40 and I have yet to enjoy anything else as much as I do that ship. If you like it stick with it, a non fleet ship will do you just fine in endgame.
