Assignments with 50/50 success rate, take em?

I've got a number of assignments where the success rate is equal to or not much bigger than the failure rate, and don't know what to do. On the assumption that assignments can't be repeated, and that failure costs me nothing except lost rewards, do I:

- Hold off on them till some future time when the chance of success increases because either I have more suitable officers or something else makes em more likely, like my rank, or something?

- Do them anyway because I might as well give it a shot?

- Consider grabbing officers more suited to the success of the assignment (seems like a veru costly strategy) and then do them?

Any advice is welcomed.

To be honest, if you want to try the assignment, then do it. The "cost" is that the DOff is being used to do the assignment, therefore unavailable to be used for another assignment. If the assignment is failed, then the DOff might end up in sickbay, keeping him/her from being used for longer.

Also, the level of success determines the level of reward - the better success = better reward. SO, it's more beneficial to lower the chance of failure (or increase the change of success) by using DOffs that will achieve that goal.

If you look in the Duty Officer Forum, there is a sticky that helps explain the entire system. Sometimes, you just gotta "do it".

    Good luck :D

Console building has a high fail rate (green console) unless you have the fancy new liberated borg engineer doffs. I still take my chances even if 24% of my consoles are junk (I use the Tellarite resolve engineers)

    1. Only "chain" missions can't be repeated. However, failure of chain assignments will still advance the chain and/or pay out the "chain reward" - I've failed NADORC, Investigate Temporal Anamoly, etc., and still have received the strange artifact and bartender. All I missed out on was the EC/CXP/Etc...

    2. Other than the chain(s) and the rare one-shot (Temporal Anamoly for bartender) - every mission is repeatable, however, the mission's rarity may be an issue - for example, if you want Borg DOffs from the reclaim Borg drones mission, you'd want to run that at whatever slim chance of success you have since it's so rare to find it...

    3. White DOffs can die on failure, Greens and up get sent to sickbay. Remember that when shopping in the store. Also, considering that Greens are now "less useful" than whites (starbase food duty on whites keep their prices up), it may not be as expensive as you think to nab a couple for those missions you love to run frequently...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I would also suggest to be careful you know what the mission is. On the Klingon side there is a mission where you execute the crew member and they are gone forever. Like and idiot I didn't understand that and executed a DOFF I would never have gotten rid of.

    Live and learn I guess.

Personally, I never do the assignment if the failure rate is 20% or greater and I usually shoot for a failure rate of less than 5%.

Some missions that have a failure rate of more than 5% I will send out anyway, if I am stacking Doff Assignments before I log out for the night.

If they fail, it isn't a big issue, since I will just stack the next group when I log in the following day.
