Ever run through a social zone and run into another toon with the same name and essentially the same look? Maybe even flying a ship of the same name. What were your thoughts? Did you chalk it up to coincidence? Did you think maybe you weren't so clever or did you think someone stole your idea? Did you think it might be flattering or did it tick you off? just curious as I had this happen a couple of times. Thoughts?
To clarify my character is completely original. Not named after or physically similar to any fictional character I know. I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them.
I actually jotted down all the facial and body specifics for the female sci BOFF you get from the helix and turned around and made an exact replica of her.
Im currently debating on whether or not to do the same for tovan khev then make all my BOFFs look like him including a toon.....but idk maybe that would be a little much

if they are same race and gender u can save a copy in the tailor then load it on other characters and boffs that way u get exact replica.
I did break down the other day and create a new Romulan toon named Tovan Khev; he's now in command of the RRW Tovan Khev II, along with his officers Tovan Khev2, Towan Khew, Touan Kheu, and Tovvan Khevv.
Don't think I'm going to run into his doppelganger any time soon...

I came up with the name for the character Amanda Palmer about thirteen years ago. Turns out, there actually is a lady of the same name
I came up with the Vulcan name Sotek for a piece I wrote, then coincidentally, another writer used a very different Vulcan of the same name
When I was about 7, I thought I invented the word 'aquanaut', ie someone who worked beneath the oceans, kinda like an astronaut, but under water, hence 'aqua'. Turned out the word had been around for quite some time, with both Gerry Anderson, and Patek Philippe watches
I've noticed it happens more with ship names but not so much toons. There are quite a few Hermes and a couple of other Essex's I've seen in sector space.
As a "Firefly" fan (as well as of ST), I thought, "Oh, I'll be clever and do something no one else has done on STO before: I'll name my ship the Serenity." Okay, that didn't quite work out like I expected. How many Serenitys are there? "Okay, I'll name my main character Mal." Then I saw "Malcolm Reynolds" and other spellings of his last name. "There are no original ideas, even in STO," I concluded.
I do know for a fact that my original toon is the only one with his name, because I gave him my name. Some of his ships have had the same names as others, because I named his ships after famed Terran scientists, but his main craft, the Odyssey-prototype USS Hans Asperger, does seem to be unique...
My Vulcan, Sajak, also seems to be unique; his ships are named for SF authors, and I've only seen the Heinlein used by anyone else. (He's currently in command of the advanced escort USS Pournelle; he's made cameo appearances in a couple of my Literary Challenge stories, too.)
Weirdly, I have encountered another toon with the same name as my Ferengi, Grunt; it was on DS9, where the name "Grunt" was also attached to a Gorn...

I named him Lordi Gaforge...
just cause using "Gordi Laforge" was not an option in character creation...Star Trek names are banned...
Hoping nobody has used that handle as of yet..... but I doubt it.
