Im thinking of getting an oddy..just wanted to get an opinion of some experienced oddy captains..is the 3 pack worth it for the consoles set bonus? and if i was to get just one oddy which one would you guys recommend? im leaning towards the tac version..
My toon is an engineer and im flying around in my regent and liking it..my build maybe around the aux2bat build for an oddy..will post my build plan a bit later.
If you go Oddy yes all 3 (so you can turn and have the utility) I use the Tac version on my Engineer, give her some DPS on top of her super tanky. Fleet elite beams, Borg and Romulan torps (plus related sets) kinda cookie cutter for cruisers but it pulls it off well, 1-2 of the fleet consoles (armor with turn) will help a lot and chevron sep will allow you to fly her more towards an escort turn rate if you chose (10% loss of tanky). So yea the pack is worth it a single ship is likely not..
No, if you want an Odyssey, get the one that suits your playstyle the best, likely the Tac. Do not get the set. An extra 2500 zen for probably the worst 3-piece set in the game, and the individual consoles are very underwhelming. Only Chevron is worth a passing consideration. All in all the ships are pretty obsolete, especially in the tac department, where the Fleet Excelsior, Fleet Assault and Monbosh are better choices.
^^ Ignore the people above, and get the Ody set. :P
Seriously, the Ody has gotten some new wind of late with 'Enhanced Engineering Systems;' and the separated Chevron has its own GW3, and can deploy its own healer worker bees (on the full 3-part C-Store set). Quite shiny, that way.
Aux2bat, while doable, wouldn't be my first choice. I myself use an A2D build of my own (with purple A2D doff) which runs very smoothly, turns like crazy, and is very sturdy, and runs with only 1 Enhanced Neutronium.

I disagree. Getting the 3-pack is cheaper than getting them individually; it is a three for the price of two. You don't have to use the console set, and you do have the flexibility of three different layouts. Also, getting the set unlocks it on all Federation characters.
As for all that talk of not turning fast enough, those folks have not tried to perform a "Crazy Ivan". yes, you could fire evasive as soon as possible. OR you could save it for when someone is focusing on just one side(usually the aft). Evasive, full reverse and any other powers you wish to try and suddenly the other players over shoot you exposing their own aft side. Further, if they think you can't turn worth a darn, then you spring your turning buffs, they have underestimated you and now you have the advantage, if only for a short time.
I would personally prefer to buy the Regent and Excelsior rather than the Odyssey pack.
The ships a whale, none of it's 3 configurations has the fire power of the Fleet Excelsior or Fleet Regent. And I feel you'd be wanting to use the Chevron Separation for turn which means your going to be at 9 consoles like the normal Regent/Excelsior.
The Regent and Excelsior are a tie for best Fed Cruiser. If I only could choose one it's the Regent. For many it would be the Excelsior.
I like a Torpedo, that's why I choose the Regent, pure Beams or a Cannon Cruiser the Excelsior is the better choice.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
This kind of thread always makes me laugh. If you can't figure out how to manoeuvre in an Odyssey then just give up. It's an excellent ship, but if you are just going to go full speed ahead and try to turn all the time, then you can hardly blame the ship if you fail.
to answer this question one must know what you intend with it to do.
as a support cruiser/healer it is an excellent ship and highly adaptive if you want more bang for certain situations.
for pure dps cruiser there are better options, though the tac oddy has some teeth too.
if you have the budget go for nothing less than the full pack...saucer sep console is pure gold and after the buff of the set the other 2 aren't as useless as they used to be.
The Odyssey is a very bad choice and if you have to get one at all, just buy the tactical version.
STO does not know dedicated healers and tanks like most other games, which have these roles. For healing purposes, the powers have way too much cooldown and too little effect. As for tanking, there are three kinds of situations in PVE. Either anybody can tank it without even breaking a sweat, which is most of the time, or you're getting killed with a single blow, not matter what ship you're in, because of Borg torpedoes' insane critical hits. Then there are those situations, which you have to get out of right away, like when the Borg Gateway is hammering at you or the Cubes in The Cure Found Elite. You'll have to run or you'll die.
In the end you will be flying around in a big fat useless ship, which is dragged along by the rest of the group. The best way of support you could offer any group, is, hands down, not to take part at all and let your spot be filled by a competent escort player. Space PVE is pure DPS content, anything else does not matter. This is the way they have designed it and it will probably not change anytime soon.
I am saying this as a player who started with cruisers and the tactical Odyssey was my first Zen store ship. I also have a Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit and a Fleet Assault Cruiser. Both ships are way superior in comparison to the Odyssey. Yet even their advantages as cruisers are very thin when you compare them to tanky escorts, especially a Fleet Heavy Escort Carrier, which I also own. With EPtS3 and a full Borg set with a shield power level of 130, even without any resistances at all, this ship is a tough one to kill, except for those situations where something kills you with one hit, but then again, that same thing would have killed you in your whale ship just the same. In addition to that, you are not forced to use Aux2Bat.
If you want to experience a real battleship feeling, consider a KDF char with a tactical Bortas or a Fleet Tor'Kaht, but I would go with the Bortas as a pure battleship. In fact, this is the ship people think they are getting when they buy the Ody. It offers five tactical consoles and can support three Romulan tactical bridge officers. That means 14.2% crit with the right items and enough room for two tactical teams, two copies of BFAW and APB. Combine that with EPtS3, Damage Control Engineers, Hazard Systems or Shield Distribution Officers and the full Borg set and you have a ship, that is very hard to kill and still has enough offensive power to justify its presence.
One hour of FleischmannTV saves one square kilometre of precious peble wasteland.

Why make the effort of a fast turning Odyssey when you can get a Regent or Excelsior which turn better anyway? Or even an Ambassador if you want a science lean. In any case, a good beamboat only needs a net turn of 15 or so.
This kind of thread always makes me laugh. If you can't figure out how to manoeuvre in an Odyssey then just give up. It's an excellent ship, but if you are just going to go full speed ahead and try to turn all the time, then you can hardly blame the ship if you fail.
Ody is a fine ship, indeed.
Also, not sure where ppl are getting the idea from that the Odyssey is a brick (ppl just love blindly repeating each other). Sure, natively it doesn't turn all that fast, but with Chevron separation, or maybe a Tachyo if you need it, or one of them Enhanced [+Turn] Neutroniums, those drawbacks are all in the past.
I myself applied my own patented A2D recipe on it, making it zip thru space like an Escort, but which much more hull, and very sturdy resists:
Like I said earlier, with separated Chevron now being able to do GW3 itself, as well as deploy its own worker bees, plus the 'Enhanced Engineering Systems' you get on top of that (2-piece set-bonus), the Ody has gotten a second wind, far as I'm concerned.
I've also been considering a purchase, but my rule on these things is I only buy it if I have a specific use for two of the ships, and I cant think of two good uses for it right now.
The tac version has a very flexible BOFF layout, but only has 3 tac consoles so it isnt going to hit as hard as some of the other cruisers. Turn-rate of 6, can be overcome, but other tac cruisers have more agility to start with and get better output. The best way to boost turn-rate is to get the engi shpi with the saucer separation but then you are down to 2 tac consoles, which is the worst in class. And the ship models are massive, which makes them easy to acquire and hit. My tac and engi captains will be way better off with a number of other ships. I would be handicapping them with this one.
The only ship I can figure up a competitive use for is the sci version, which looks like it would make a good defensive support sci tank, but (1) the regular odyssey can be bought for 200k FC and has the same layout (sans the worker bees and sensor analysis), and (2) the fleet I'm in doesnt do much structured combat so I dont need it anyway.
If they added a 4th tac console on the tac oddy my calculus would change. Right now I am better off with other ships for specific applications.
The Odyssey is a pretty great ship, particularly the tactical cruiser, but I would avoid buying the pack. The only piece of the set worth using is the chevron separation if your looking for more maneuverability. While, as others have already pointed out, you won't be able to get the damage of the Fleet Assault Cruiser Retrofit or Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit, but what the Odyssey does bring is unparalleled flexibility. You can set it up as a damage dealing tactical cruiser that will deal good damage. It's lack of Tactical consoles (3 on the tactical variant) can be made up by using the LtCmd Universal as a tactical station enabling the use of more tactical abilities which, if used correctly, will translate into more damage. Now say you want to do a PvP match and your team needs a healer. Because of the ships flexible layout you can also set yourself up to be a very good healer. The ship is basically good at everything, but master of nothing. If your looking for pure damage output the Fleet Assault Cruiser Retrofit and Fleet Advanced Heavy Cruiser Retrofit are the two best, but the Odyssey with its flexible bridge officer layout should not be underestimated and is still one of the top cruisers.

Even that has now been robbed of the Odyssey, with the arrival of the Adapted Battlecruiser and its Commander Universal.

* The Ody is not much of a minmax ship unless you do tanking and nothing but. It is highly versatile but it's going to be something of a hybrid unless you're into tanking in a big way. People who dislike the ship generally seem to strongly favor escorts and not battleships. If you favor battleship style combat you may find the Odyssey very enjoyable.
* The Odyssey has a lot of hype in both directions. Good hype because it is arguably the "supership" of STO as is portrayed. This is not to say it actually IS, but it was the first of the three-pack ships and it's the class of ship the Enterprise is. It is akin to the Galaxy class of TNG, the Sovereign class of the TNG movies, Connie of TOS, etc. It also receives a lot of bad hype because of the aforementioned minmaxing. It is in short a very polarizing ship if you look at the detailed arguments.
Now the good thing is, if you're up for using a hybrid, the Odyssey is a VERY good ship for making hybridized. It's good for this if you only buy one and great for it if you buy the three pack. The Odyssey is loaded with toys and has a lot of small bonuses. These bonuses are, however, often not spectacular, so it's often a difficult decision, especially if you want to feel like you got your money's worth for all three.
Another thing to consider is what ship has what console and which hull is the best. Opinions vary greatly on this. Personally I find the Operations Ody to be the worst hull, but the most valuable console by far. Although some astutely point out that you sacrifice a valuable console for saucer separation, others misunderstand the purpose of the separation. It is not, as one may surmise, to get a little helper in the form of the saucer. It's to GET RID of the saucer. Frankly if I could, when I used an Ody, I'd have left the saucer at spacedock with the annoying kids. Saucer separation can be VERY useful, especially with the recent changes to the saucer making it so if you're defeated, you don't automatically re-merge, allowing you to confidently remain separated for the entire battle. Once separated, the Odyssey, at least in its tactical form, becomes a much more formidable opponent with a considerable boost to speed and weapon power.
The best hull is, IMO, the tactical Odyssey, for the simple fact that it has three tactical consoles. The science Odyssey is probably best for science-heavy characters. Now, some say that Sensor Analysis beats out the tactical console. I disagree; it's at best a weak attempt at making up for it, because for sensor analysis to actually help you your target lock needs to linger for over a minute, which means if you're chewing through opponents quickly (and you may well do so - the Ody isn't as toothless as some believe), your opponents can cloak, or you have to try to give some support to an ally or a target you need to defend, your SA bonus is probably going to be lost, because it only lasts a very short time once your target lock changes, if at all. However, the tac Odyssey also has what is IMO the most useless console - the Aquarius. In my experience, the thing is a flying coffin, and the fact that you have to choose between it and saucer separation makes it all the more undesirable. Although you might be able to keep it alive if you have high threat control and the attention of your enemies, the fact of the matter is that the Aquarius is pretty poorly configured to make a significant impact against enemy targets no matter what you do, and too poorly armored/shielded to last very long. There isn't much you can do to change it. Add in the fact that it's too stupid to choose targets smartly and often gets blown up by warp core breaches nearby, and that you have no ability to transmit orders, and it's a losing proposition in most regards. The main reason why I used it at all was because of the three-piece bonus.
The science Odyssey, as discussed earlier, lacks the third tactical console (as the Ops Ody does), which does not help it with DPS. However, the additional science console slot means that you can use what it's got to very heavily shore up hull AND shields, as damage resistance is diminishing returns (it's hardly worth slotting more than three armor consoles, and even that is VERY debatable). The three-piece bonus, as mentioned, is now the two-piece bonus. But even with that it's not so great. It IS useful, however, if you use the Odyssey console abilities, because of the reduced cooldown, and the additional stats, while not spectacular, certainly don't hurt. The console it comes with is surprisingly useful, however. The work bees are a useful heal that have a range of 15 KM instead of 10 as with most powers. They also can be used defensively, as they can swarm yourself, a pet or an ally and stay with them until the hull drops below 70% (approximately) or are destroyed. Keep in mind though that they CAN be destroyed, so things like plasma DoT's will result in very wrecked bees that you have to redeploy.
My personal, current favorite setup is the Odyssey tac with the saucer sep and workbee consoles. This gives you 8 consoles to work with otherwise, the advantages of saucer separation and work bees, and the two piece bonus. While the three piece bonus IS useful, it's not useful enough to justify a console slot just for the Aquarius. Plus, both the saucer and Aquarius do not accept orders and are far too stupid to make good use of what they have. However, I have moved on to the Fleet Assault Cruiser, and also find the Assault Cruiser Refit to be a good ship, as it has some of the attributes of the tactical Odyssey with less bulk and wasted console slots. One drawback of this setup, however, is that if you care about aesthetics and being somewhat in-character for the Star Trek universe, it may be jarring or annoying that you've got an Aquarius attached to your ship's butt just sitting there useless. On a more practical note, it still requires two console slots, leaving you eight to work with.
Now a short note on the maneuverability of the ship. It's a whale. Period. You can put bandaids on it all you want, but it's still a whale, and you have to give up something to get around it. "Oh just use Aux to Dampeners" means you can't put something else in there that may make the ship much more viable, such as Aux2Bat, and may require you to reslot the universal bridge officers, TRIBBLE up the entire build. Ditto for consoles, though recent fleet consoles make this considerably less of an issue. The saucer separation is a TREMENDOUS help, but with its cooldowns, and the occasional drawback of the saucer running around with no brains at all (ISE comes to mind, at least before the transformers are blown), it is not a cure-all. Bottom line with this is, although it can be improved on, sometimes very well, you are going to have to be able to work with this limitation of the ship. It is not an escort, even in saucer separation mode, and it never will be.
An additional note on Aux2Bat - it's a somewhat awkward fit for this ship. The previous poster actually illustrated this - they are running EPtW1 and EPtS1. This, IMO, is going to put a serious dent in your survivability by the lack of EPtS3, and while RSP3 will help, it's going to be hard pressed to compensate for this. Now, an Aux2Bat setup is still viable if you want to use the level one EPtX powers, or if you want to have the Lt. Cmdr slot go to an engineer, but this introduces other problems if you're aiming for a tactical battleship. A point of GOOD news however is that if you stick a tactical officer in the Lt. Cmdr slot, you have a LOT more tactical slots, and you may not even need Aux2Bat nearly as much as you would with a ship with fewer slots. If you're willing to take kicks in the face for power levels or tanking, you can have up to six tac BOff power slots, which is about as many as you can possibly get for a cruiser.
My analysis, in short, is this: if you are a minmaxer, or your creed is "DPS is the only thing that matters in STO," stay away from this ship. You will not be pleased with it unless you're a tank, and most people who are mostly concerned with DPS believe tanking in STO is close to useless if not outright useless. If you are a cruiser player or enjoy battleship tactics, you will probably like this ship, but some options may be more in your style and you should consider those as well. If you are a pure tank or one of the few users of the Galaxy Retrofit, this is your one-stop shop for a decent upgrade. If you want a ship with very high versatility and enjoy a variable cruiser playstyle, this is also a great ship, especially since it is an account-wide unlock. No matter what you do, however, be prepared for the fact that the ship may well be a slug or you may have to deal with a console shortage, or both.
In terms of what ship to get - if you can stand the loss of a tac console, you probably want the Ops Odyssey for the saucer separation. If you want a slow, but decently-firepowered battleship and can't stand the loss of a tac console, you may want the tactical Odyssey, and probably ditch the Aquarius. Otherwise, you should probably get the three-pack if you get it at all. Definitely get the three-pack if you want the ship for versatility. If you cannot afford the three-pack, save up dil for it, because you will be disappointed without it if you're looking for versatility.
Disclaimer: All of this is IMO, I am not the world's best player, someone will probably tell you I'm full of garbage but it's ultimately up to you to decide if I am or not, I am the walrus (but TELL NO ONE THIS).

An aux2batt build just doesn't work well on a oddy either.
Go with the FAHCR or the FAC they are much better and perfect for aux2batt.
