I have the above mentioned item in my inventory but I have no idea where I got it or what it does. Any ideas? Couldn't find the item even mentioned in the search or on StoWiki

I'm not familiar with that item. It's not a crafting schematic is it? Does it look like an orange wireframe image of the item? Without a pic of the item's icon that's all I can think it might be.

Nope its not a crafting schem. It's only attribute, besides the item's name obviously, is "common inventory" and it's valued at 100 energy credits.

Save it. Because later on you may get a DOff mission where you have to assemble the weapon.

Oh is that where I got it from? I guess its like a prisoner or a colonist that you can get and keep until you use for another mission? Interesting. I like this DOff stuff lol

1nONLY_DRock is correct, you use these schematics to create deployable space platforms that expire upon use (or a certain number of uses, I forget), or to return to Starfleet for other Doff missions.

I got a plasma torp item that way.

Keep it in mind, they are also consumable.

This is one of various types of deployable weapons platforms that you can acquire through the Duty Officer system. It's a chain of two assignments - the first where you acquire the plans (as you have), and the second where your crew actually builds the platform. Note that you'll also need Contraband to be able to build each device. For Feds, the easiest way to get Contraband is through Inspect Civilian Freighter Assignments; KDF have various ways, typically through Marauding assignments. Each platform is a consumable device with 20 charges.

A slight change: The fabrication assignment now produces a stack of 20 individual 1-use items rather than a single item with 20 charges, or so Heretic has stated. (I haven't gotten around to personally testing the change myself.)

Well, I guess that's one way to encourage sales of inventory slots...

Not really. Full stacks take up no more inventory space than the device, and partial stacks combine.

If anyone is still wondering the doff mission is available via the Engineering officer on your ship. First time i tried to get there it was hard to find for me.

To get there select the Drop Down in the mini map and select Visit Starship Bridge, then take turbo shaft to engineering deck and talk to engineering officer.

Im sure I purchased 1 set of Prototype plans from an NPC but it may have just been what i saw in the exchange. Can any one confirm an NPC for Prototype plans?

Getting the prototype plans is a doff mission. I don't remember exactly which sector each version of the prototype mission spawns in though.

There is one Rare doff Assignment: Deliver Prototype Technology to Allies in Gamma Quadrant (espionage)
This needs one of each of the Prototype plans (12 in total) and gives 1k Dilithium and a stack of each of the Gamma Quadrant Commodities
Critical Success will give 4k Dilithium & larger stacks of gamma quadrant commodities

Always best to save prototype plans for this mission and not use them to make turrets (this uses up contraband which you might be using to convert to dilithium anyway)
