A federation Rifle comes standard issue from Starfleet with over 16 settings.
So why, do u have to have 16 diferent rifles all with diferent skins to use these 16 settings?
My idea, is a new Weapontype.
"Standard Federation Phaser Mk ??"
"Standard Federation Rifle Mk ??"
"Standard Klingon Disruptor Mk ??"
"Standard Klingon Rifle Mk ??"
"Standard Romulan Disruptor Mk ??"
"Standard Romulan Rifle Mk ??"
You might be thinking this is stupid, But it isn't, its a good idea to start players in the tutorial with one of these. And have a new one issued Every Rank up, As Mk.. 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12
Each of the 3 faction standards will have unique stat allocations and quirks...
The Federation: Adaptability>Brute Force. Their standard Weapons dealing much less damage however, make up for it in Settings and Customization.
The Klingon Empire: Brute Force>All. Their standard weapon, dealing a larger amount of damage then their Federation Counterpart, however, have a much less varriered amount of settings.
The Romulans: Not much is known about the Romulans, only that they have both adaptability and brute force. With their weapons being a "healthy Middle" between KDF and Fed.

Fed Pistol Settings:
Stun (3second Cooldown) : Compression Bolt : Wide Beam : Rapid Fire : Split Beam :Vaporize (New setting, Stun Effect w/ High Damage, Negated Completely By shields)
Fed Rifle Settings:
Sniper Shot : Split Beam : Rapid Fire : Stun Bolt (Short Range Sniper w/ Stun) : High Density : and Pulsewave (weakened)
Klingon Standard Stats:
[CritD]x1
@Mk XII, Have the Damage of a Mk XII Green
KDF Pistol Settings:
Compression Bolt (5s CD) : Vaporizing Compression Bolt (12s CD) : Stunning Compression Bolt (2s CD)
KDF Rifle Settings:
Rapid Fire : Sniper Shot : Pulsewave (weakened)
Romulan Standard Stats:
@Mk XII Have the Damage of a Mk XII White
Rom Pistol Settings:
Compression Bolt : Stun : Vaporize : Wide Beam : Rapid Fire
Rom Rifle Settings :
Rapid Fire : Sniper Shot : Stunning Sniper Shot : Split Beam : High Density
How would you switch settings:
Have a bar, similar to the EV suits Activation Thing. With a list of all weapon settings.
To swap to a setting, you click on the setting in the bar, and it takes a certain amount of time to swap to each setting depending on the setting.
This would give newer players a MUCH Wider veriety of weapons to chose from while leveling, and making the game a bit more canon....
Even Possibly upgrading these Weapons with crafting to Uncommon, Rare, and Very Rare. Which could make crafting useful again.

They are starter weapons. to introduce players to different weapons. so they don't have to go around going What's This Do? Every time they see a new weapon.
Read the rest, I said to put it in a bar like the EV Suits On/Off button. Which is toggleable.
And honestly: I would rather have an extra skillbar clogged, then having to have 12 different weapons in my Portable Void, at all times.
If provided as an option, maybe it's great on paper. but real practicality? It was once stated on the show it has options but that makes it more difficult to repair.
So would you suggest for realism's sake that your weapon malfunctions on it's own every now and then? When weapons malfunction is used on it it takes twice as long to fix?
The current simplicity makes life easier on the average gamer, it is fairly easy to switch between my weapons and have the wo settings for each.
Don't get me wrong i'm not downplaying your idea, it just stirkes me as impractical overall.
