I'm trying to decide which one to go for. I like the turn and console distribution on the destroyer, but the battle cruiser seems to be better in terms of weapon mounts and base hull/Shield modifier.
They can both use cannons so that's not really a deciding factor for me. Would the cloak and indoctrination console make it a better pick? The Manheim console just seems cool to use though so I'm a bit torn between the two.
Does anyone have an opinion on which would be a better choice? I've tried cannon builds and beam builds so I'm flexible in that sense.
One is a lot more bulk, while the other is more offensive.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Is this for PVE or PVP? Do you play as and Eng, Sci Or Tac? The Destroyer is a cruiser / escort hybrid (fast / maneuverable) and the Battlecruiser is a bit slower but better at tanking. All depends on your play style.
PVE, Engineer. I usually go with escorts, but I also liked the tankyness of the cruiser and the sound of the console. It's more of a coin flip for me but I wanted to see if you all had an opinion about which is just a generally better ship.
I can't comment on the temporal destroyer, but the adapted cruiser was my ship of choice up until the scimitar came out, and I really enjoyed it. The two pieces of adapted borg gear that come with the ship are both pretty good, and the 2-piece set bonus is a decent survivability boost. The universal commander slot makes it very versatile in terms of possible builds, and with an RCS console or even a fleet +turn neutronium you can have enough turn rate to make a pleasantly surprising science-heavy build without making any huge sacrifices (works best if you have the shrapnel torp console too for the bonus damage on exotic abilities).
I ran mine with the MK XII J'H set (IMO the shield visual makes the ship look quite impressive, though there are likely plenty of people who would disagree :P) and fleet polaron beams, and it pumped out enough DPS to put me in the top 3 in CE Elite the majority of the time - and the survivability was great.
If you want a tanky behemoth that you can build more or less any way you like, then the cruiser's the way to go.
The Manheim console isn't that great since it commonly leads to your death which needs to be fixed but they don't bother.
For some reason ships spawned by consoles seem to be agro sponges and are good at dying. Monbosh suffers from the same problem but at least they don't have to worry about being killed when their past self dies.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
I have the Tal shiar battlecruiser and i'm realy pleased with it , i built like an escort with Cmdr tactical and Dhcs in front, with dilithium mine consoles you can reach 26+ turn which is realy good for pve but the best part is that you can still be very tanky because of the Set 2 passif which increases your healings and shield regeneration (i suggest you use the borg shield on it ).
Given the state of tanks in PvE right now, I vote for the Temporal Destroyer (or a second look at the Scimitar, cfr below) if the captain is a Romulan engineer. Here is why.
In order to tank with the TS Battle Cruiser, you would need to assign an engineer BOff to the universal Cmd slot. In PvE, there is no engineering Cmd BOff ability that can match the contribution of a Tactical Cmd slot to the team performance. Directed Energy Modulation is not so great as expected, except the lowest version in combination with the DOff Marion Frances Dulmur. Defensive abilities like RSP3, Aux2SIF3 or Extend Shield 3 are overkill for a tank in PvE. I would say completely the contrary if you were interested in PvP, where a "4+2" engineering configuration with a scientific Lt-Cmd can be put to good use. Yet for PvE, you're better off with a tank using a Tactical Cmd BOff.
The Temporal Destroyer is such a ship (less solid than the Romulan Mogai or the Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier though), if you rely on the Aux2Batt build with engineering team. You will suffer from the wasted tactical ensign problem, but it's common and not too severe. I mean, in your "4+2" tactical slots, you will need tactical team, cannon scatter volley, 3 attack patterns and the 2nd ensign slot cannot find a useful content. Put all your universal slots into the engineering department (yes, that means no science ability) : RSP2, dual Aux2Batt, Engineering Team 1, EPtS1 and either EPtW1 (if you need more weapon power) or EPtE1 (if you need to duplicate evasive manoeuvres).
Is this a strange setup ? Not if you consider that shields will be healed by EPtS1 continuously and by RSP2 quite frequently (thanks to the Aux2Batt DOff's) and that your hull is healed by Engineering team. You don't need science abilities to tank if you rely on this method : Hazard emitter is replaced by engineering team and Transfer Shield Strenght is superfluous given EPtS and RSP2. You will miss Science Team a little (that wasted tactical ensign slot could be useful if it were transfer to the science department).
The Temporal Destroyer will keep the agro by doing as much damage as more traditional escorts. It's not the most solid tank around, but you're an engineer, you have a miracle worker and other niceties. Since your captain is Romulan, I would recommend the Scimitar exactly along the same line of reasoning (but of course with a different build : Aux2Batt without engineering team, but with science abilities). Think of the five tactical consoles, the tactical Cmd, the neat "3+2" engineering departement without sacrificing a scientific Lt slot. The Scimitar is in my opinion more suitable for a Romulan engineer than the temporal destroyer. Of course it's a bit comparing apples and pears, the two ships and their respective gameplays are completely different, but if you considered buying the TS Battle Cruiser, please consider the Scimitar as well.
Your build and to a lesser your equipment will depend on the ship you choose. Enjoy the diversity of possibilities... and then find your own preference !
