70 percent of the players can not read (mission descriptions)

Thats my experience in that game on more complex missions, like starbase incursion.

In starbase incursion we divide the team. But if you chat "bottom left", a lot of players are running behind me and shooting on guards and turrets. Ok, maybe its a missunderstanding. So now i chat "I go bottom left!" Anyhow there are one or two players in the same sector and shooting on guards and turrets. And thats only the first round and only one example.

I know, everyone is a noob in his life and new to a game. But it helps, if you read the mission descriptions or listen to the experienced players who want to help. So if i chat "Search for saboteurs, ignore turrets and guards" and you do nothing or insult me, its not a good team play.

Maybe its not the fault of the players. Maybe there are too many missions like "shoot this, shoot that" where you go in and enable autofire. To many casual missions.

Part of it is not reading, but part of it is that "bottom left" and "top right" and such became the default designations for areas, but the map is blacked out making it impossible for somebody not fully familiar with the map to know which is which and where the borders are.

To be honest, the 'top left/bottom right etc' scenario is much like the 10% rule in ISE - more of a 'unwritten rule' than anything else. An unwritten rule that makes a great deal of sense, but an unwritten one nonetheless.

Year i know its only one tactic on that scenario. starbase incursion is only one example where players not read the description or not communicate. Communication is very rare in that game, except you are witht your friends and fleet members.

There are also other ways to run these missions than the rules some try to enforce. Rather than argue, players just do it their own way. We have consistently reached the cap of saboteurs by not separating into quadrants as many like to do. On the second part I have seen almost nobody who likes to actually work as a team.

One problem is that many missions start with such a sense of urgency that there is a tendency to get rid of all those annoying dialogue windows and get on with the action. Add to that the pressure of not holding back your teammates with your noobness and you have a recipe for disaster.

A briefing room for all participants before entering combat would be a welcome addition instead of just beaming everyone into hell and hoping for the best.

I need you to cite your information, otherwise that would be mis-representation of advertising.

Secondly, I think some of the people who play this have [barely!] the brain function or power to read, but I think some of them actually do not know how to use Chat, or are foreign (IE: do not understand English, but may be able to read a different language) or ...

    are the

    CBATRCAIDNCIISAAR

    Or

Can't be arsed to read chat and I do not care if I suck as a result

    ... type of people.

My , not very serious 2 p. (I am , of course , to an extent, joking.)
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

    I hope STO get's better ...

Right, I'm on my millionth STF, so I need another 2 or 3 minute briefing on how to do it...of course....

You want briefing you plan ahead with people and start a joint game. If you PUG, then you know:

-They may know what to do

    -They may not

Ha.. well reading the post got kinda funni. Though I agree on the most part on what everyone is saying

I'll say a small % might not kno english.. this is true. Others get to ampt to shoot things w/o thinking. Others have good skills but just a lil lost at the "short hand" people write in.. vs going into detail.

I've literally seen someone just write "10" in a message box and then snap on someone who blew the generator up early. Most people simply wont kno what "10" is.. if u dont write the rest like "Stop firing on the Nanite Generators before they reach 10% of their HP" or some such

But yeah, those details take awhile to type and still may not help the worse of the worse gamers.

My vote is for a Voice Over to read the mission Ops outloud... while good tips are normally in the writen mission ops when the mission loads, as some ppl voiced.. that person might get to hot headed to blow stuff up and not read anything. A V.O. might assist most missions going better. I think it'd be fairly easy todo.

...I frequently turn off all the game sounds and listen to my music when playing.

I havent had the sound on in STO for a long long time...I usually have Netflix going on the second monitor while I play.

The only problem with voice overs is that there are people that can't stand them and turn them off, and when there isn't an option to turn off voice overs they will turn the sound off altogether.

I frequently turn off all the game sounds and listen to my music when playing.

Well if they dont read the mission Bio or Listen to the mission Bio and still fail at the mission/optional.. thats just a full blown flog'd gamer.

Im not sure what else kan be added if a person wont read or listen to the rules of engagement. I.E. Which targets/type of targets to hit and/or what tools to use or what the enemy is weak versus. Thats probably the person you hope never gets in your team...

Crystalline Entity is a big/good one, having a full party with no tools to strip its Crystalline Stacking/ArmorDamage will get ugly fast

That mission Bio is a huge one to read which many ppl most likely just zoom off from, not sure how you kan fit a small V.O. Bio on that one ...but it might stop ppl from making fools out of them selves on that mission. But a 2nd'ary help would stop a larger % then the "70%" that kannot read as mentioned by the Poster... even if its 20% less.. thats 20% less failed options or missions taking longer then they should.
