Interiors

Does anyone else feel that interiors are just too big?

Especially starships, corridors are massive and bridges tend to be very expansive and very high.
I suppose on alien ships/buildings you can justify it more. But on starfleet ships it does kind of break the immersion for me.

The one exception I've found so far is the bridge on the temporal ship, that's exactly right and has a good feel about it.

Am I alone in this?

The Belfast Interior is much smaller than the normal size.

I don't mean tight, just not cavernous.
And I've looked into getting the belfast bridge as I do fly defiants. It's nice?

Stranded in Space always makes me chuckle, the cutscene where the Azura crew are transported to my ship, I always look near the upper part of the transporter and then these two tiny figures that look 8 inches high materialise. It's like STO's homage to Land of the Giants!:D

Ancient argument. People been commenting on this for 4 years now.

Cryptic's original response was that it was large due to camera issues, but since then they released the TOS and Defiant Interiors that showed that wasn't the case and they can make accurate-sized interiors without camera issues.

Speaking of that ,they really need to make esd and the other old social zone have the fleetstarbase feel ...thats less oversized and more modern feel ,plus a new esd would be awesome.

NP, it's good this gets brought up once in a while. So that Cryptic doesn't go back to making football stadiums. :P

Anything is possible, they revamped ESD's interior two times since launch. But given they relatively kept to the same layout, I don't think they are going to do a complete overhaul and change it's layout.

However, I could see them adding on new areas to ESD that could be just that.

why not a complete change .They said they will make a new tutorial so a new esd right after the tutorial would be great. They changed it few times but it looks more or less the same. They should make it to have that wow factor the romulan bases have....smaller windows and less tall rooms ...imagine the posibilities :D

Also they could sell or make officers apartements ...that would give a new thing for people to buy and invest in...imagine your own room on esd with all your trophies and gorn jokes in chat. That would be more money for cryptic ,new things to want to own plus it would give a reason to have a huge station.

    It's a possibility.

When they said they were revamping ESD for the first time, I imagined they would have a huge lounge area with a large bay window, that you can see ships docking (like in Star Trek 3). So who knows.

Never know, they might use that as part of a new HUB in a major expansion.

i'm with the OP on this one..

the interiors are horribly out of scale, and pretty awful to look at..

corridors, rooms, everything...it's out of scale, and looks like it was designed by fisher-price. i'm talking about corridors being way to high, and way too wide , cavernous bridges that don't fit with the size of the ships, EVERY room being massively out of scale, lousy low-res textures, buttons on wall panels being the size of your character's head...it looks really sloppy, and amateurish..

i hate to say it, but when you compare the set pieces designed by cryptic, to the set pieces designed by perpetual..well, it's night and day. it'd be great if they could fix it, but after 3 years, i doubt they will..

if they do, i'd be very pleasantly surprised, and quite happy, because despite it's sometimes gaping flaws, i liked the game enough to buy a lifetime subscription..

The size of the interiors is mostly to accommodate the number of players and keep from having camera issues resulting from standing near or walking through tight surroundings. Also, STO operates with collision on regarding other players and NPCs whereas WoW and Rift do not for players but do for some important NPCs. Tight spaces and smaller rooms would not work as well in STO.

Why smaller windows and less taller rooms, do you even know what the actual size of the base is? It's enormous, and what sto's representation of it is to say the least small by canon caparison.

I would like nothing more than to see the older interiors scaled down to something more sensible. The standard federation ship interior I think suffers the most, its laughably huge. You could drive an 18 wheeler down the hallways with room to spare. The enormous transporter pads are a pretty bad eyesore too. They seem to have been designed to transport Optimus Prime and his friends.

The klingon ships suffer from this too, especially the birds of prey but the Fed interior just takes the cake.
