Same deal as with my Tal Shiar Loot Tables. 2000 Boxes opened for each faction on Tribble.
Disclaimer: Given how small some percentages turn out to be a proper sample size would have been at least 10.000, but take a look for yourself.

It seems the S'golth Escort is lower than I remember the other lockbox ships? Or am I misremembering?
You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.
Last time the Helmsman trait was actually rarer than the ship.
But hey, now instead of having to open about 200 boxes to get a ship you now need to open about 400. That is no big difference right? Right?
Another reason not to play the stupid lock box game.
Rather surprised by the low droprate of the escort. Due to seeing people getting two or more in a row and the immediate price crash at the exchange, I was somewhat inclined to believe the elachi escort was more common than previous lockbox ships, not rarer.
you actually opened 6000 lock boxes???????????????????????????????????????????????
He said on Tribble. Keys aren't so hard to get on Tribble.
I didn't ask to be President of the Balloon Enterprises! The Balloon Enterprises demanded it!
Well if you're opening boxes for the ship and deleting everything else, then it's definitely not worth it.
If you're opening boxes and having fun with what comes out regardless of profit and loss, then it's all good.
Those are the two extremes, most people fall in the middle somewhere.
Also, 0.18% is about 550 boxes not 400. .25% would be 400 boxes.
This.
I opened around 100 of them to get enough Lobi to buy the console and the crescent cannon. The most valuable thing I got was the leadership trait, but I'm still not angry at the outcome as the only thing I was really aiming for were those avg. 5 Lobi per box and I regarded any kind of drop other than doff packs or boosts as lucky.
Most people have seen more than one lockbox cycle and by now it's pretty much known what to expect, what to do and what not to do. Experiments like that of the OP are a big, big help in figuring out if you should open boxes or sell keys on the exchange and just buy whatever you want with EC.
I opened 150 boxes. I didn't take exact count on everything, but here are some things I did count precisely:
1x Ground Trait - Firearms Specialist
1x Ground Trait - Regenerative Tissue
2x Space Trait - Inspirational Leader
2x Console ? Universal ? Subspace Integration Circuit
These are approximations:
~48x individual Dil Mining certificates (I think I got 3ea VIP and Preferred Claims)
~18x various CXP/Fleet buffs
~8x Elachi DOff backs and about two dozen of the other DOff Mini-packs.
~40x Elachi Crescent Weapon packs.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with my results. Sure there's some disappointment at not getting the S'golth Escort, but there's enough EC worth of "extra" goodies (ie after I use whatever I'm gonna keep) to be close enough to buy one from the Exchange (last I looked about 12hrs ago, cheapest price was ~62M EC) if I decide I really want one (and honestly, I'm undecided).
I was very happy to get Inspirational Leader, which I wanted for my Main toon. Getting a second was bonus, I may give it to one of my Primary Alts. I wanted two Wing Commanders for my Carrier Captains, got none, but purchased them "reasonably" (about 10M EC for both) off the Exchange (yeah, I coulda waited for price to drop further, but I wanted instant gratification).
I opened an Elachi DOff pack, got Purple Grav Sci and Diag Eng DOffs, both of which that toon needed, so that was nice.
I opened only one of my Elachi Crescent packs and got exactly what I wanted... One of my Dis-based escorts was all Mk XII but for one last DHC Mk XI, and I pulled an Elachi DHC Mk XII [Acc]x2 [CrtH], so that was keen! I'll probably sell the rest of the packs (already sold 8 for a lovely sum).
I actually really like all the Dil Mining certs, too. And the CXP/Fleet buffs are gonna come in useful, as well.
All-in-all, it was fun just to experience some "gambling" (like how you can have a good time in Vegas at the tables/slots, even if you don't actually win anything), I got lots of goodies I can use/sell, and enough Lobi to buy a Boss ship or other primo gear (I haven't decided yet).

Well yes, except that probability doesn't work that way. Let's say that the chance of opening a lockbox containing a ship is 1 in 400 at the first try. At the second try the chance is still 1 in 400, because supplies are not limited and the system does not take your previous rolls into account (as far as I know). It's like rolling a die, not pulling a playing card out of a deck hoping for the ace of hearts!
I've seen a lot of misconceptions about it here, and just thought I should clarify!
This is more easily visualized of your chances to not get the ship as 1-0.00183...=0.99816 or 99.8% (still assumed drop rate from the observed stats, also note the repeating 3.) Your chances for not getting the loot in 2 rolls is (0.99816)^2=0.996336694... your true chances for not getting the desired drop at the proclaimed 550 boxes is still (1-(11/6000))^550=36.45%. In order to get a 99% probability of getting the ship (or 1% chance of NOT getting it) you would have to open ln(0.01)/ln(1-(11/6000)) = 2510 boxes. Of course you could get it much sooner, or perhaps even not at all although that would be quite unlikely at that point.
This all assumes of course that the actual drop rate is exactly 11/6000. While this is a reasonably good sample size, due to the low rate I suspect it is not extremely precise mathematically although it is probably quite sufficient for the intended purpose. I suspect the actual rate might be 0.2% (and the OP was a little unlucky, just 1 more hit in the sample would set it at this precisely) just based off what I might do if I were a Cryptic programmer. Given that it would "only" take opening 2301 boxes to get a 99% probability. Still care to play the lotto?
Class dismissed!
You can still get the ship box at any level, you just can't open it and use it until you reach level 50. The chances of obtaining items are not related to character level in any way.
Mine Trap Supporter
Except it kind of does.
If I roll a die 6 times I may not end up rolling each of 1-6 a single time, because the sample size is too small, but my chances of rolling 6 of a single number are much less than rolling some variety of numbers.
And if I roll that die 6000 times I should start to see something closer to 1000 of each number.
Not exactly a 1000 of each, but closer to it.
If something is contained in approximately 1:500 lock boxes, then if I open 500 it doesn't mean that I will pull that item, but my chances are certainly improved.
And just because the odds are 1:500 doesn't mean that I won't get it on my first try, but it is a long shot.
And if I open a million, then yeah, I probably end up with around 2000 of that item.
Because if not, then those numbers aren't worth anything, and I am guessing that a sample size of 6000 ain't that bad.
The lobi crystal thing is just weird, they seriously need in game ways of getting those even if it's just a daily! Having ships on the Exchange but then not having an in game means of buying the kits for them is just stupid.
Even if you're trying to get more people to open boxes those who are gung ho about it still are going to get tired of buying all those keys just to get 800 lobi crystals. They need to have an in game option AND increase the crystals per box or do away with lobis altogether and use dilithium
