I have 3 characters, all engineers. My Klingon has a Kar'Fi, my KDF aligned Romulan has a Scimitar, and my Fed has an Atrox. Of the 3, I have the least fun flying my Atrox. I like the carrier role, but the turn rate and squishyness of the Atrox, leave me wanting to try something else. As you can see, I don't mind grinding for c-store or lockbox ships. I tend to shy away from escorts, and don't want to ditch the Atrox completely, but I am in the market for another ship to play with and switch out for my Fed.
The ships that I have been looking at are the D'kora, the Recluse, the Oddy pack, and the dreadnought cruiser. Does anyone have suggestions about these ships or suggestions about others in the Fed line?
lockbox wise there's the jem dreadnaught and the recluse for a carrier role each with it's strengths(the jem dread is closer to the scimitar than the kar fi due to dual cannons being an option)
C-store wise well there's just the escort carrier but you don't like escorts so much, it's leagues faster than your carriers but only one hanger bay and limited(one lt.com) engineering capacity
A Vesta or a Nebula might be a good fit since you'll be able to use your science setups but with more speed and better shielding.
Worth waiting a few days though, since with these End Of Summer Giveaways going on, I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of the gifts is the Nebula or the D'kyr.

I do like the looks of the 3 vesta ships, does anybody have any experience with them in battle? Looks like it is time to start hitting the surveys again to get the 5k zen for the set. Hopefully the exchange rate for Dilithium to zen goes down as well.
I have the Vesta Pack, and I can tell you, they are great ships. Their adaptability is the best part: the Universal LTC Station works great, along with the ability to use cannons, and the single hangar station.
Can you link your build for the Atrox perhaps we can give the ship a bit more oomph rather than you scrapping the thing altogether.
I admit I prefer the Vo'quv over the Atrox but they aren't nonredeemable.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.

Wholeheartedly agree with Burstdragon. best investment I ever made for my Sci toon.
The Vesta is "squishy" as well, but the invincible shield console will get you out of most tight spots (it has saved my distracted behind several times).
But before dropping the Zen, might be a good idea to follow Dknight's suggestion and let the community give your current build a once over.
the Atrox Is NOT squishy if flown right.... I've Tanked tac cube bosses with it in ESTF's without an "optimized" build.... i basically use whatever i got and upgrade as i get what i need.
use BO powers right, and stay near the 10KM mark so you can easily get away if things are going really bad. also the right pets help.
though i recently upgraded that char's carrier to the Jem Dread carrier.... now that is a beast of a carrier, i love it as well, i un it with all polaron type damage weapons with the Mk XII jem set. works well even in ESTF's.
I'd like to refer you to this thread where I compiled a list of tanking-capable ships, cruisers and carriers alike. Firstly, you will see that the Atrox is absent from the table while the Scimitar and Kar'fi are duly mentionned. Your feeling about the Atrox is indeed shared and has objective grounds. That alone doesn't say what kind of gameplay you would like to experience with your Fed engineer. When you avoid escorts, don't include all destroyers in the same bag (I'm actually going to mention the Jem'Hadar HEC in the list of your best options). With all my love for the Vesta (the one and only ship flown by my Fed science captain), I can't recommend one for an engineer ; it's not playing according to your particular strenghts.
If you want to stick to a carrier, then the choice is simple : Jem'Hadar Dreadnought vs Tholian Recluse. Both very good ships for an engineer, but very different ; you will have no trouble making up your mind since they are so different.
However, a Fed Engineer can also enjoy the sheer power of a damage-oriented cruiser like the Fleet Excelsior or Regent. Maybe it's time for a change in your gameplay, this has nothing to do with the carriers you used to fly, and it's definitely not the Scimitar. You may have to respecialize your captain though (skill points and maybe traits).
Finally, since you don't mind earning credits or dilithium patiently to enjoy the well-deserved reward, why not have a look at the Lobi ships ? The Jem'Hadar Dreadnought is actually the closest ship to your Scimitar, so you may want to jump on it (if you're looking for a similar gameplay) and to avoid it (if you're looking for a change).
Consider the Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier (not on the cruiser table because it's on the escort table), one of the few escorts/destroyers with full tanking capabilities (e.g. with the Mogai, but let's talk about Fed ships here). It has a carrier flavour, a good turn rate, the raw firepower of a destroyer... A taste of your current gameplay with a whole new world of experiences...
The newly introduced Moonbog would be perfect for you too. It's one of the best cruisers on paper,... but it's new, more expensive than a Fleet Regent or Excelsior, probably overpriced in the coming weeks .
If you intend to play a lot of PvP, then your engineer should probably focus on what it does best in that context (own team support) and with that in mind, the Science Odyssey is a frequently recommended option, among others. Again, it's lightyears away from the carrier style, except the size and turn rate.
Quite a few options, and I'm confident that they are diverse enough to make a choice easy.
Thanks for the input. I will post my setup for the Atrox a little later. To tell the truth it is pretty close to stock, as I haven't finished the rep trees yet to get the best gear for it. I know there is much room for improvement in its current state, and like I said, I am not going to sell it, but I do think my Fed Toon should have another ship so that I can change back and forth for variety.
Still leaning toward the Vestas or the Recluse, but the question is which one since the strategy for getting them is different. Saving up 5K zen straight out, or buying 5 10 packs of keys and rolling the dice for the free recluse, or enough Lobi to get it.
Stats for my Atrox:
Fore: Nanite Disruptor DBBs x2 (MK XI Purple with CritDx3) Romulan hyper plasma torp
Aft: Disruptor turret x2 (blue MkXI CritD x2) KCB
Borg Assimilated 3 piece set Mk X
Eng: Booster Mod MK XII x2, Assimilated Module
Sci: Grav Gen Mk XII blue x2, Zero Point Energy Conduit, Shield Emitter Amplifier (MK XII purple)
Tac: Disruptor coil and ampiplas envelope.
Hangar: Blue Stalkers ans Advanced Scorps

I've also got the Vesta pack and must say that with an eng toon it is a very impressive beast. With the right setup you can easily get the Quantum Focused Phaser to hit for close to 5k DPS by itself. Add in the aux-dual-heavy cannons going full blast with CRF and you'll melt a borg cube in an elite STF by yourself provided one of the shield facings is down. And with that same setup the Graviton Shield thing will reflect more damage than you take, making it hit bloody hard, and with FBP running with it you have a nasty rate of returned damage going out in addition to what you're pumping out. I love face-hugging the tac-cube in ISE and hitting the 'perfect shield' right before it pops so I can take the explosion with no damage.

Not sure about the Doffs.
The Vesta is probably the best Sci ship in the game, it's also good as a Light Cruiser or Light Escort. It's adaptable it can do Science and use it's Aux DHCs Some silly people claim that using the Aux DHC's reduce the power of your science powers. Smart people know to stop shooting for a moment.
Your Atrox appears to be focused in a 90 degree frontal cone, that's a problem for a ship that has issues turning.
I use
Fore: Romulan Hyper Plasma, Romuan Experimental Beam, Plasma Dual Beam
Aft: 2 Beam Arrays and a KCB.
The ship has very good all round firepower and the pets help.
As for abilities I don't like your engineering section one bit. I use EPtS1 > RSP1 > Aux2SiF.
This means I only really need HE for clense rather than relying on it for heals, since it's a Sci boat I run Max Aux to spam fighters (since half of them die every kill) with a moderate amount of juice in weapons.
I keep TT up at all times and I use Beta Pattern as an all purpose Damage boost.
For any Sci boat I run I make sure I have PH1, TSS1, HE2 & TBR1 this gives me 3 powers left depending on circumstance. Usually a GW3 with 2 others depending on the ship and Captain. Charged particle Burst is a good close range shield stripper for Carriers as it's not directional like a Tachyon Beam.

I've tried everything I own and several things I didn't trying to get my Vesta to keep up with my Atrox... I just can't do it.
My Ody can get close, and is a bit sturdier, but she can't quite catch her.
IMO, the only upgrades for an Atrox are Recluse/JHDC. JHDC if you want a tactical nightmare carrier, Recluse if you want to do anything else.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!

I have seen you post around a few times about your Atrox. That build looks awesome, but I don't know how to get some of those rare items like the RMC. I have also been prioritizing my Orion lately to finish up her rep, but my fed is next on the list to pick up the rest of the rep stuff. I will definitely try your setup once I get the time to gather that stuff.
The Red Matter Capacitor comes from the Collector's Edition of the game. A year ago they were still available at a good price if you looked hard enough. It can easily be replaced by anything really. I put it in as an emergency backup for my Aux Battery, which is my emergency backup for the 10 second gaps after my Aux2Bat... so it really could be anything else. It says it is supposed to also bring systems back online, but I don't know if its broken or what because it never seems to, and I tend to have enough power overall so other then a tiny bit of aux for the most dire of circumstances, it really sits there because of lack of better options.
Plasma satellites are a strong option, or which ever ones of those are strongest, I rarely use them myself because of the cooldown (5 minutes I think). The Scorpion device pets share a cooldown with both the pirate distress call and fleet support. The Jevonite hull plate consumables would get expensive. A shield battery would probably be best, even for me over the RMC, but I tend to live dangerously hehe.

And how would you compare the borg MK 12 to the M.A.C.O. MK 12?
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!

It's a Plasma beam with a Disruptor Proc (they usually land together) The Experimental beam uses 0 power and has a function similar to Beam Overload, with the 3pc set.
I don't mind the colour teal. Get the Nukara Console for it's Particle Generators and [Acc] to beams.
MACO would be fine for a Carrier but the KHG has a better Deflector and Engine for a Carrier, shield too if you intend to use Plasmonic Leech.
With all the Sci/Eng available it's easy to get a TSS, HE, EPtS, RSP & Aux2Sif onto the Carrier without hurting ability to Sci. So your not going to be need the Heals like an Escort. (Not to mention lots of Hull and Shields). Last time I used the Grav beam it wasn't very good. I heard they made it's secondry ability of the Disable better, although no improvement in Damage. A Carrier would be running High Aux too.
The Borg Tractor Beam from the set has an Energy Siphon built in so could give a bit more drain to a drain build.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
I'm still toying with the mix of beams. I currently use 2x [acc]x2 romulan plasma + the experimental beam and 3x [acc]x2, [critd] beams off the exchange, with the thought to upgrade the regular beams to the fleet advanced at some point, once I got a mix of romulan plasmas I was happy with. As I understand things, the disruptor proc does not stack, so I'd like to find a balance where the proc is up a good amount of the time but I still have some of those tasty 4 mod beams as well. I find disruptor to be great for damage over all, so I certainly want it in the mix, but just how much... still unsettled.
IMO, for most applications, Borg 12 > all. The free heals are a godsend. 2pc borg + MACO shield is probably even better, but I like the tractor beam. I rarely find the whole MACO set worth slotting, as I find the 2pc borg makes me more sturdy then the extra defensive stats on the MACO deflector.
I find the set that has a stronger draw is the Adapted MACO/KHG set. The deflector is loaded with sci stats. The engines are top notch. The shields come in right behind the MACO one. The set bonuses don't suck. Still... those heals... they are hard to give up for anything...
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
Hehe I've actually been flying my Vesta around for a couple days now. Still can't get her to quite match my Atrox, but the gap is closing. I also like saying TRIBBLE it, turning off the parser, and loading her up with the Vesta goodies and just having fun. She is a blast to fly, even if I can smoke her dead in my Carrier hehe.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
