Okay so we got the Elachi now from "Silent Enemy" and perhaps "Schisms", if you stretch it even further.
Excuse any rehash of the point or comments I'm making. I haven't logged in in many months since the game turned to this new direction.
So what's next for lock boxes? There's a Borg cube, which in the dying days of STO will undoubtedly be released. Until then, what's next?
Cryptic you are already stretching it pretty thin. We got Ferengi D'kora, Cardassian Galor, Federation/Klingon time ships, Breen ship, mirror universe ships, and I'm sure I'm missing a few others.
Oh, I just read this now. So you have a Romulan timeship. It's the first made-up ship I've seen thus far. Is this the direction we are heading? Do we expect to see Ferengi timeships? Cardassian timeships? Or perhaps even you might release alien of the week ships such as the Kazon Warship this month and it's timeship variant the next month? Perhaps even a Threshold delta flyer? Just some ideas for you guys.

The Romulans got their own timeship because they are a playable faction that otherwise didn't have access to the Fed/KDF versions. Just like the Vet ship, it's just a reskinned version of the other two.
As for adding more lockbox ships, isn't more choices better?
Star Trek is a pretty diverse universe. I have no problem with exotic ships, the Elachi ones are particularly cool in my opinion. If you don't like em, simple solution, don't open Elachi boxes.
the romulan timeship was not the first made up one. there was the tholian recluse, the orb weaver and the two klingon timeships and even in the c-store there is the odyssey and the bortasq.
they have pretty much the entire delta quadrant left, plus several others hips that were missed (jem'hadar battleship, tholian tarantula), maybe some new enemy races that cryptic will invent. there is plenty of milage left, and its not like the game is going to be around forever.

The Klingon timeship was made up already, every playable faction gets one, so the next one would probably be Cardassian. And there's plenty of stuff they can introduce. Kriosian battle cruisers, Voth scout ships, Kazon ships (they aren't much crappier than the Jem'hadar suicide bomber was supposed to be), Husnock ships, Vaadwaur ships etc.
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.
By the time the next lockbox hits they'll have shown the Voth. The only alien ships I still want to fly are Undine ships. Those haven't been used either yet.
Unfortunately, lock boxes are a necessary evil; without people spending a TRIBBLE load of money gambling on winning a ship, the financial success of the game would be smaller and so would the staff.
Personally, I love the boxes. As stated, it adds to the success of the game. I also never open the things. I sell a buttload of them. I really don't want the ships or stuff in them and if I do, they are always on the market. As to the possibility of more....man they are endless.
Eh, aside from the usual suspects of So'na(they did have a Battlecruiser and Command Ship), the Hirogen, the Breen, etc. they could also go in a different direction like they did with the Temporal lockbox.
"Allegiance Lockbox"
Grand prize of a "Vulcan Suurok Combat Cruiser/Orion Warbarge Dreadnought" with mirror universe variants in the Lobi store.
Perhaps a Reman Stealth-Carrier if Rommies really want their own ship from it.

Three lockboxes right there, plus if they go with a Voth box like people think...that will easily take us into next year.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Undine, Hirogen, mirror universe, Fek'ihri, and Breen have not had their own lockboxes. Breen have had one ship, but there's enough options to fill a lockbox, particularly if the ship from the winter event doesn't come back, it could end up in such a lockbox. Mirror universe has had a number of minor ships, but a full fledged lockbox could have 10 console mirror flagships.
Nausicans are plausible, as well, since they aren't fully aligned with the KDF (they're even enemies in a couple of their missions), and they have a few NPC-only ships. If a Gorn rebellion storyline that's been teased at is ever actually brought in, Gorn now become a viable lockbox, they also have some NPC-only ships.
Many races that have gotten lockboxes have enough options to expand their offerings. New races come periodically, the Voth will almost certainly get a lockbox like the Tholians and Elachi.
After that, just brainstorming up a few ideas:
-Minor allies - Few ships belonging to member or ally races of the major factions. Example: Ferasan ship for KDF, Tamarian for Fed, Suliban for Rom. Lethan, Bajoran, and Acamarian respectively in the lobi store.
-Delta/Gamma quadrant minor races (could fit well with new Borg or Dominion storylines, could even include a number of 9 console alien ships in place of mirror ships)
-Xindi, Miradorn, Son'a, Tzenkethi, Kazon, Pakled - just a few of the dozens of races that could either be neutral or paired off between the factions (example: if Xindi joining the Federation is accepted as canon in STO, the Son'a could be allied to the KDF and bam, lockbox).
There you go, devs, two or three years worth of lockboxes right there. You can thank me whenever.
Oh, there's plenty they can do. If the Season 8 enemy is the Voth, I fully expect a Voth lockbox in about three months.
Personally, I'd like to see another Temporal lockbox, but past instead of future this time. Stick a Promellian Battlecruiser in there or something, whatever. I want TOS-era duty officers and a way to upgrade the old Type-3 rifle to Mk XII.
Well... I guess the next Lockbox will be a Voth Ship, as they will be our next big Bad.
As this Lockbox thing started I expected we would get pirated ships of the other faction, which would have made at least a little sense in war time (thinking back to Kirks or Gul Dukats Klingon Bird of Preys).

I think this will happen eventually, but I think it's a reserve idea for when other ideas start to run thin. It's sure to be one of their most controversial boxes.

Ferrengi they can make minor changes to the current ferrengi ship and do it over 50 or so times.
Keldon and Galor variants around 20+
Same with tholian ships looking at about 100+ more lockboxes.
Ability to play every variant of Klingon ships and absorbed kdf races as a federation player 500+ lockboxes
All the voyager encountered ships plus variants on top of variants about over 100,000 lockboxes.
So add borg in with that and you got enough to take STO into a couple more centuries.
That's my guess at least. Think of all the alien races that featured in Star Trek, they haven't even scraped the surface yet.

Less staff less content.
