No MMO ever disappointed me more than GW2, but I still get the news letters from them and they just introduced something that is a really good idea at least, and I honestly think STO should copy it.
An account wallet.
Basically all your currencies over all characters get pooled into one wallet. It makes things so much easier and more frustration and stress free. I won't start again with how Lobi shouldn't be character bound, Cryptic made it absolutely clear they won't do that, so that's that. But all other currencies:
-EC
-Dil
-Fleet Marks
-Omega/Nukara/Romulan Marks
-Data Samples
These things should go into such an account wallet.
EC and dilithium are easily transferable between toons already. And since it would mean the money caps would apply account wide too, I can't say I like the idea of putting them all together. At least not unless the 1 billion cap is lifted.
And since fleet/rep marks aren't real currencies, but represent favors those groups owe your character, it isn't appropriate to transfer them between toons.

They **** on logic and canon at every corner, but they insist on this. Guess why? Because it keeps people grinding longer per char. Any pretense of logic is just that, a pretense, an excuse.
In GW2 this wallet also collects dungeon favors. So what? It's not like there is a storyline tied to the reputation systems. It's a menu with numbers that go up.
not everyone has an account bank to transfer ec funds. it's a great investment if you haven't already, but again, not everyone has one. the dil exchange on the other hand is not meant to be used as a temporary dil bank. imagine if cryptic just ups and decides to attach a listing fee for each transaction... what then?
with the current state of affairs, the likelihood of creating and maintaining multiple characters gets less and less for the majority of the game's population. there's always going to be one more rep system or better equipment or such as hopefully more and most importantly, significant content is released. the game is broken and stagnant in it's current state. you run the same missions over and over and over again. you should at least be able to do so on the character of your choosing, versus being forced to switch to an alt because you've reached your cap or are on cooldown. we're being pigeonholed into the same time gated content, where they (cryptic) essentially tell us what we can and can not do. so what's left but to accumulate resources and wealth and hope that the next season's content will last longer than the previous ones.
Account Bank, I keep seeing that and it says it's unavailable. I thought it was a placeholder. Now you're telling me that you have to unlock that or something? Or is it the work-around of using the stupid Fleet banking system?
If you were a subscriber at some point you get a very small amount of account bank spaces for free, but all other players and those wanting more space need to buy account bank slots in the Zen store.
I feel I should give a bit more background about where this is coming from in Guild Wars 2. Because it has similiar potential issues as STO, but they deal with those issues in a better matter.
As I mentioned, the account wallet in GW2 also collects dungeon favors. This is important since it's basically an equivalent to reputation. Every dungeon in GW2 has it's own currency and you can use it to unlock skins. There is basically a skin for each dungeon.
Now the issue here is that for most characters you'll want one specific skin. The others don't really help you much. So if your friends ask you to do a dungeon with them, there is a big chance you don't get much beyond basic drops for your troubles.
What do the devs do? They introduce the account wallet. This makes running a dungeon with your friends never a waste of time. Even if you already have the skin you want, another character can easily use the favors to get a skin for himself some time down the road.
Do I even have to spell out how it's the exact same situation as with Reputation in STO? How it would be a great thing if you could just play with the characters you enjoy with the maps you want to play and not have the feeling you are wasting your time progression wise?
Cryptic keeps telling us how they realize that people with more than one characters have a horrible time with more reputation systems and how they want to help those players. Well so far nothing happened. Here is an EASY solution that could not possibly make anyone unhappy.

the important things are already account wide.. like zen.
EC and DIL can already be transferred.. so its not a big deal.. i would like to see a DIL holder put in the account bank.. but no biggie..
data samples are a huge inventory hog. id like to see these be able to be stacked up to 999.
but they are only really needed for crafting.. which is so outdated its not even worth doing.

If you put reputation marks into an account bank which I really would like to see happen it would cut down the rep grind a lot , but I don't think the gamemakers want this , they want us to log in every day , this rep grind has become an unholy job of work.

Playing 3 STFs a Week and loging in 5 (FIVE) minutes a day, hardly counts as "grind".
I very much doubt 3 stf's and 5 minutes a day gets you very far , its not just reaching tier 5 that's pretty easy , its all the marks and dilithium you need for the gear and if you have 4 or 5 toons and they each have to do it it takes longer than 5 mins a day

I've always thought that if you are in game earning the resource it should not matter where you spend those resources.
And since fleet/rep marks aren't real currencies, but represent favors those groups owe your character, it isn't appropriate to transfer them between toons.
Latinum should be transferable, though.

Marks as well but I imagine that's a tougher sell to Cryptic. But dilithium and GPL should be and ought to be if EC can already be pooled.
