So, I hit 50 (yay!) and because I'm a creature of habit, I still wanted to do my "explore these 3 planets..." daily. So, I went into the Delta Vol cluster, found a planet, beamed down, yadda yadda. Well, when I came across the first group of mobs, there were SOOOO many more of them than usual and absolutely wiped the floor with my party. Even after respawning and trying to use *gasp* a plan, I still got beaten down.

Is this normal? Can I expect this until I get geared to the teeth? Because, that doesn't really sound like "fun..."

did you set difficulty to elite, or advanced?
    were they borg?
do you use MK X or higher weapons? what rarity?
do you have a mk X kit?
did you skill the ground abilities of your boffs, or even promoted them? 1 or 2 healers in the team make a huge impact.

if they were borg you need to see your replicator and get 5 remodulators...now!
if it was a higher difficulty, you need to put it on normal again.

    Set to normal
    Gorn, not borg
Yes, my away team and I have mostly Mk X+ eq, they're mostly green or blue.
Yes, I switched to a melee Mk X kit because it was vastly cheaper than a grenade Mk X kit
I have 2 healers, they have their healing abilities maxed out, as do my other doffs, and yes I use their abilities.

After typing this... I think I just suck >_>

blue mk x kits are sold by an npc on earth space dock. i'd recommand opperative kit and either a split beam or a shot gun.

getting near them while cloaked...position yourself, activate ambush, kill atleast the 2-3 ensigns in the grp with one shot...save your TRIBBLE, while your crew gets aggro.

Or alternatively, give you and your away team swords, train your tacs in lunge, go melee and kill all the ground mobs with a quickness you would never expect.

if you're a tac try a squad leader kit, good variety of grenades and buffs and it's excellent for solo play with your boffs, as far as cost ask your fleet leader to craft one most fleets keep plenty of traces on hand and they don't take unreplictables for mk X purple kits(if you're leader won't or can't send me a pm @emperordeslok)

IME "exploration" ground and base missions are too buggy to bother with. Either your team doesn't arrive with you, or there are bad guys inside objects firing at you that you can't target, or the enemies or enemy boss are 10 times tougher than the lats mission you took at the same settings (or 10 times weaker).

For the reward, I just skip it. I used to like those missions, too. There are even a few cool ones, but canceling 10 missions to find the good one takes too much time.

Wow! Thanks for the over overwhelmingly constructive criticism all! I'll put these to a test right now. And I know that the ground missions are a bit "buggy" right now, but I do still need to learn how to defend myself.

It could be that you accidentally drew agro from multiple enemy groups. a lot of the ground maps have an event script where you fight 5 mobs. Sometimes they're relatively close together and if you aren't careful you'll have to fight several at once.

my reccomendation Ditch any sci healers except for 1

Bring at least 2 enginerrs speced for fortification preferably 3, have them trained in shield generators and regeneration field, and another with Turret and Mortor, the rest of sills fill with shield recharge and a weapons malfunction o whatever

Use the squad command to camp your officers together, Set up the AOE heals and ressistance boosters and turrets/mortors ( if your an eng at this pint deploy your dome skill)

Sit inside the bubble, make sure to press the Aim key for extra damage, and crouching will give you a slight reduction in damage they do to you

( this does not work for some enemy captain squads, who will come right up close, i reccomend keeping a sword or pulsewave in reserve for when they get too close for comfort)

Additional Question, are you and your boffs equipped with Hypo Sprays, shield boosters and energy cells? as these will really make the differance allowing your boffs to self heal

P.S you probably know most of that already i'm just covering the basics in case

I reccomend hacking most AI captains to peices myself. In my experience it just works better. MOST. Tholians, Elachi, and Breen are exceptions. They have annoying AoE abilities that make it problematic. This is especially true of Hirogen, Klingons, and Borg. Hirogen and Klingons like melee too much. Borg.... can't adapt to standard melee weapons. Oh and Gorn. Melee won't stop them from trying to throw rocks, but it makes them die faster.

Had something similar one time on a random asteroid base. Two groups of Klingon NPCs were milling around the same area. (broken patrol route?) It was about 14 Klingons. 3 munition officers, 4 targ handlers and 2 Dahan Masters in the group, if I remember right. I decided the Klingons could have the place and beamed out. :D

This was back when my Orbital Strike was more of an Orbital Sunburn Ray or I'd have blasted them all, they were so tightly grouped.

and more, they can use any item that you can on the ground, another thing to keep in mind is the expose/exploit mechanic of the game

    THIS

Equip 2 of your away team with expose weapons/powers and the other two with exploit weapons/powers. Mobs literally start disentigrating.

It's probably just a difficult map.

There are definitely bugged maps out there, like ones that my landing party DO NOT APPEAR or are intermittent but they are on the map. I think these are maps that have too many objects so the landing party gets tweaked by the game engine.

Try to use strategy, don't just rush the enemy. Like for my Eng, I put my landing party at a particular spot, plant shield generator and health generator with a blocking shield in front. Then lure the enemy to my team, pick them off one-by-one. (Sorry I don't remember the proper names of the items.)

Edit: You don't have to be an Eng though, you can tell you Eng to do these are well as long as they have the abilities.

    Be careful though...

Sometimes they 'eat' the items out-of-combat, just because they taste good.

They especially luv to play with Tribbles. (though they don't devour them)

the worst offender i've seen of that is my jem eating ketracel down at new Romulus, the rest don't seem too bad although i wish those energy cells were easier to make in bulk for the beam pistol(my orion loves her purple beam pistol)

They can also use the item Ophidian Cane [http://sto.gamepedia.com/Ophidian_Cane] , and tribbles , not sure why you would want them to use tribbles though

Update: So, I changed up my away team (2 sci with healing and debuff abilites and 2 tac with target suppression fire and over watch). I also placed my away team just out of los and bottle necked the huge TRIBBLE groups and used our plasma grenades and it vaporizes 50-60% of the enemy teams in 1 shot!

Thank you all so much for the help!
