What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

I know this is a Noob question.

I was wondering what the different difficulties actually do, I'm sure this has been asked numerous times, but I'm wondering if there are changes to story line at a higher level, or if you get more EXP, or if its just the rarer item drop rate?
I've noticed in game that most people play on Normal, but I'm a guy that likes getting everything I can.
Are there items that are only released if you play on Elite?
I'm just a little confused on the matter.

With the higher difficulty there is meant to be a higher chance of better drops. To compensate fo rthis the mobs themselves become harder and you are more likely to suffer damage to your ship and injuries on ground missions. Unless these are fixed or healed it affects your performance.

On the ground, at hard all enemies start having shields and more hit points. They do hit harder but not much harder.

At elite they have lots of more hp, there are more of them per group, and they hit a lot harder.

in Space they have more hull and shields at higher difficulties, plus cause more damage. Groups that used to be 3 frigates are often 2 frigates and a cruiser, etc.

And while it might seem stupid, playing on Elite as you level up somewhat helps to prepare you for Elite STFs at end-game. It gets you used to the fact that everything you shoot at doesn't immediately go boom like it does on the normal, easy level and helps to teach you to use various abilities more to succeed.

People who only play on the normal difficulty generally experience some culture shock when they get to the Elite STFs because they've never had to fight anything at that level before.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
