Hello.
I am sure that most of you who use reputation items bought them at mk xii. And most of people just wait out till tier 5 reputation for items, not getting them before.
So here is what i suggest. One reputation set/item upgrade. For example if i get a mk X borg engine at tier 1, when i reach tier 3, there should be a project to upgrade from mk X To mk xi.. And at tier 5, a project to upgrade from mk xi to xii . Those projects should cost the difference of dilithium/marks/comodities/expertise +10-15%. it would be fair. {If this isn't here, why get the mk x or xi set ?- that's what most people think)
This should be usefull. very usefull. especially with ground borg sets needed for ground stfs/defera , but also for space
Also, you can purchase x/xi/xii equipment when you want if you have the necesarry tier. This won't affect that.
I'm just suggesting the ability to upgrade
What do you think?
~sorry if i have typos

I honestly think this would be a great idea, the set gear is intended to help you do better in STF's anyways so being able to get the best of what is currently available to you within the reputation system then being able to upgrade it at comparable cost as you progress makes perfect sense to me and would help players who may not be coming into STF's with good gear to begin with. Great suggestion!

Good idea. Would encourage people to get the Set bonus gear earlier rather than hold off until a month of 2 later when they reach tier 5. Certainly wouldn't hurt the overall performance of people in STFs
I would go one step further and make an intro mission for the STFs. A person plays the intro mission (having the person play each of the three main STF (not including the two most recent) and at least achieve the main objective) and the reward is one of the STF sets (level X). The Rep system at the lower level could still be the avenue for getting the other sets, but now the player has a set to find out what it offers and encourage the player to get other or to upgrade the set rewarded from the intro mission.
There would b, of course, two intro missions (one for earning space set and one for ground set), and it would be a one time only for each toon. If the player deletes the set gained from intro then they just have to get it again via the STF rep system.
OP's idea of upgrading will make it more worthwhile to get the set early and reduce the overall cost at the higher levels. I, for one, have no interest in expending time and resources for an item I will just discard after getting something of higher quality. I am just working through the tiers until done and then I will get gear for my ship and ground end-game activities.
I wish Cryptic implemented this when the Rep system was first introduced. It'd give people a sense of progression and cause less burnout.
Is the Cryptic dev who designed the value of zen ships the same one who designed the value of dilithium gear? If not, Cryptic needs to have that man reevaluate the value of dilithium gear. As it stands, if you look at the MK XI, then the MK XII, then back at the MK XI, you'll start to wonder why anyone would waste dilithium on the MK XI. All gear bought with dilithium suffer this same problem. On the other hand, low level zen ships alleviate this problem with unique universal consoles, so whoever implemented that knows what they're doing.

This. Why get the xi when you can get 2 weeks later mk xii? That's how most people think.

Before S7 i was using MK X or MK XI sets on my toons as they were better than what I had, and since they were a random drop there was no reason not to use them.
But since S7 means that even the progression itself costs Marks/EC/EXP, it is too costly to bother purchasing the lower level gear. I wait until I can access the MK XII gear. A project that upgrades the current gear at the price in difference would be excellent, if however it means it costs more than waiting then its a bit pointless IMO.
I just kinda assumed what with the fairly high cost of the initial pieces of the set gear that they would be able to be traded in at some point or were requirements for the more advanced pieces (ie, to purchase the Mk XI, you must pay another 250 marks, expertise, etc, and Mk X piece of the same type.) And I foolishly shelled out the 1.5k marks for a full set of Mk X early on for the set bonuses etc. If I'd waited till the end I would have enough marks for one and a half pieces of the Mk XII set as well as the bonus marks you get for achieving tier 5. As it is, i have to grind like crazy again to get 3k marks, and I'm left with an essentially useless Mk X set with nothing to do but sit in my bank.
Please Cryptic, introduce a trade-in or upgrade option!
been wanting this since the rep system came in, at the moment I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who never even looks at the equipment and lower tiers and goes straight for the highest one so as not to throw away incredibly valuable dill down the drain when purchasing something that you could just wait a bit longer to unlock the best stuff, if i could get a lower tier item and then pay in the difference and perhaps a SLIGHT bit extra to upgrade it then i would totally have done that already.
This should be taken into further consideration by the developers!
For someone, who was happy to see the Tier I and Tier II Unlocks, you get the items and feel scammed by the way a new Tier introduces the same item just with better stats and no way to get an upgrade on already owned ones.
You waste alot of your time, if you are unaware of this.
This is also a reason for many people to drop this game for feeling bad with their decisions of investing into the game.

but i seriously doubt it will get implemented unless it cost more overall for the upgrade then just the difference between mk x and mk xi

By allowing new players to upgrade MkX sets, it will encourage them to purchase the sets earlier and thus make them better at stfs.
Better QoL for all stfers.
Then please fill out my dissertation survey on feline attachment, it'd be a massive help (-:
