Borg Faction

How could it work? How would it affect the game? How much would you want/support it? Discuss.

And while we're at it, what if it were an exclusive 10 level mini-faction similar to the Captain's Table station only available to X-day veterans?

I personally think that sounds like a bad idea; the Borg are drones not individuals. Hirogen would be higher on my list for a special minifaction.

Only would work as a liberated borg faction like the Borg Cooperative, Unimatrix Zero, Hugh's Group, or some unknown liberated borg faction not mention in the series. For the Borg Collective to work, it would have to be some type of RTS game so only a few people would be part of the Borg Collective faction. Basically, you would be controlling a bunch of Borg ships and drones at once. I just don't see an MMO like STO combining with a RTS game like Starcraft.

I came up with a scenario how a Borg Collective game would work and it would involve being similar to Bioshock where you have the choice to become the Borg Queen, destroy the Borg, or act like nothing happens. Either way, you would somehow regain your individuality while being a drone.

Playing a zombie is soooo exciting isn't it? Just shuffle slowly forward, getting shot at, hoping to turn someone else into a zombie.

    Awesome.

Why play a zombie? Locutus was not a zombie at start. We could start as a normal person and feel how it is good to be assimilated by the collective and used as an elite captain to bring happiness and salvation to the rest of the Galaxy.

Well they are more encyclopedic compared to zombies. The amount of knowledge on technology, art, medicine, architecture, and history about extinct worlds is phenomenal. Of course, they made those worlds extinct. I think the reason why most people want a Borg faction is due to Seven of Nine making the Borg hot and that is a really impressive feat.

Is it really? Everyone does remember she originally looked like this, right?

Then she lost all that junk and became a hot former borg babe. I think she was full Borg for only 3 episodes.

    PVP monsterplay OP race only.

Or take a note from Champions and have a zombie apocalypse type game for ground. Last assimilated gets first place rewards!

It still doesn't change the fact that that was her original packaging.

The good part is they wouldn't have to create that much new content. Ships and costumes are already in there.

(personally I would have made the maco/omega/hg partially borg since they made from borg parts, right but whatever)

The bad part is LTS'ers would lose out on it. As it is right now them cash people have teh biggest connection to the borg and would lose their prestige if everyone could just out-borg them

I would think it would be a liberated Borg faction like stated in every thread like this. From what I remember too in the episodes when 7 of 9 was still Borg, she did not slowly shuffle forward, she walked.

A liberated Borg faction would most likely comprise of some of the current species in game but I would guess some sort of implants would have to be visible to set them apart, and they could have more implant options. Ships could be assimilated versions of ships already in the game (different visuals to what the Borg sets give you) or the odd liberated/stolen Borg vessel. Borg ships such as cubes would not be OP because they had large crews that are all linked in the collective working as one, your cube would be piloted by you and crewed by individuals not working as one.... which would reduce the effectiveness of the vessel.

So you basically just want "Liberated Borg" and the "Assimilated Sets" for free ...

Here is why I think (Liberated) Borg Faction would be kind of silly :

    1. Why would Liberated Borg build their own Faction, maybe even on a different Homeworld in the Alpha Quadrant, when they just could go home to their homeworld, the ones their spent their entire lives ... up to the horrible nightmare assimilation seems to be, and just (re)join Starfleet, go back to their families etc ... (just like the Liberated Borg, already ingame, did ...)

    2. Most of these Ex-Borg don't really enjoy running around on Borg Cubes (Seven of Nine, almost panicked several times) ... so if you remove the only reason of flying around in Borg Cubes (them being more powerful) it's just silly to expect them to pilot Borg Cubes and stuff ... pretty sure most of them didn't enjoy their time on the Borg Cube :P

-> the main thing I learned from watching 7 Seasons of TNG & VOY was ... Liberated Borg, don't want have anything to do with Borg Stuff ... they fraking hate them ...

    Snip

No I dont want the Borg sets for free and I have the Liberated Borg already, I was just giving my opinion on how a Borg faction could be introduced, It could not be a full Borg faction could it? It would have to be Liberated, as for the assimilated ships, it would be a visual thing different from the sets with none of the stats from the sets.

There are plenty of reasons why a Liberated Borg player would not return to their species home world, the main one would be if they came from the Borg maturation chamber (babies) and they had never been to the home world and have none of their own memories of being assimilated (like 7 of 9 did). Or what if they just cant adapt to life back on the home world?

Most of these Ex-Borg don't really enjoy running around on Borg Cubes? You based that on 1 individual, she only seemed to panic when she had flash backs, not every since former drone would be the same. I only used Borg cubes as an example since they are the most common and well know of the Borg vessels. People dismiss Borg ships as playable vessels because they think they will be too powerful, they wont be.

I think Liberated Borg could be its own faction similar to how the Romulan fauxction is. As for who can do it... I'm not sure LTS are enough for PWE to fund it.

I would like to see a faction of whos story involves exploring the galaxy and seeking out people who want a Borg Faction. Once said people have been found, they are reeducated

    Then we move on.

So make them into Borg. A bit extreme, don't you think?

We already have a Borg mini faction, it's called "reputation". Log in, do 1 ISE/Nukara hard/Eppoh, move sliders to the right with your nearest consumable vendor, move sliders to the right on the reputation window, log off. Restart 20h later.
