Mystery Event?

xtern1tyxtern1ty Member Posts: 796 Arc User
I heard from an acquaintance who plays sto that a few days ago there was a special event. He said a popup came up notifying of this special limited time event in the middle of the game and he went to DS9 where he spoke to an npc and did this huge space action mission and after there was this massive ground boss on Bajor or DS9 (can't remember which) that took many players and tries to defeat. I can't find anyone else who knows about this event, can anyone please verify what it was about or find information?

Never heard of something like this. The space part sounds like the old DS9 fleet action, but I have not heard of any boss on DS9 or dirtside Bajor either. The only boss I know of on DS9 is the boss from the last mission in "The 2800" FE series.

Sounds like some one tried to pull a fast one on you.

Not saying it didn't happen, but I have not heard anything in game or seen any posts on the forums except yours about this "event" ever happening...

Did that friend mention if that event was on the holodeck or on tribble?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

That sort of reminds me of when I was near the Sol System and a mystery mission had popped up and I had to defend ESD from the Terran fleet!

When did these happen? This would be awesome if they started coming up regularly. That said, the only time I have ever seen these happen is once on Tribble many months ago (probably close to a year now - it was around when the time ships came out). And that wasn't so much a mission as it was a demonstration followed up by the devs spawning a lot of enemy ships, including some I'd never seen before.

This sounds like a really cool idea, but it's not something that happens currently in STO.

Neither is this one, unfortunately. Is it possible you were playing the Mirror Incursion event? :)

I'm trying to recall, isn't there a mission in the Cardassian arc that "looks" like an alert sent out by DS9?

Sounds like one of those kids you'd remember from your elementary school who spread all these false rumors about video game secrets.

Those do indeed sound awesome. It would certainly enhance the wartime atmosphere to warp to ESD and find it under siege from the Klingons or the Borg, or find DS9 under attack by the True Way, or Qo'noS from the Fek'Ihri (again).

This sounds like the old DS9 Fleet Action that was removed several seasons ago. There may also be a couple eps like it though - DS9 was always being attacked and incapacitated.

Seriously, Captain Kurland has a seriously bad track record with losing his station.

    (Spoilers)

It gets taken over by the Undine in one mission; infiltrated by the Terran Empire in another; and taken by the Dominion in another.

To be honest, if that happened to me, I'd sit there and think, "You know, I don't know if this whole "captain of DS9" is something I'm cut out for.

I can swear on it! I distinctly recall starting the mission DIRECTLY from the Sol system! As such, I know for a fact that it wasn't a foundry mission and I never queued for a pve event when I was near there. When I did it, there was the normal menu with a button that said "Enter Sol System", but there also was another button (I'm sorry, it was a long while ago so I forgot what it said as well), which I clicked and had to battle against tons of Terran ships to defend ESD! I will admit, however, that I might have been dreaming that, but I don't know...

The way you describe it, it does sound like a Foundry mission. Are you 100% sure you didn't pick one up and completely forgot about it by the time you got to ESD the next time?

I had a dream like that.

Are you sure it was a real mission?

Except in the Foundry, there are no "doors" to the Sol System. So it couldn't have been a Foundry mission.

That is why I am 100% POSITIVE that it was not a foundry mission. Also, I believe that I had actually HAPPENED to log on just then right in that location!

Hm, sounds like a mystery that will remain. I know the player who told me about the event was adamant that he saw it too, but there is no way of knowing if it was a mistaken foundry or surprise mission of the moment that comes up every once in a blue moon (no pun intended). There's not even any evidence it occurred at all. Let's hope if a mystery mission comes up in future, players will have their screenshot programs ready.

Here is the full details as I remember:

He said it was last week and he received the popup in game, after which he went to DS9 and spoke to a 'DS9 Event Coordinator'. He then did the massive space action after another popup which said up to 150 players can help defeat the enemies. I don't remember who he said the enemies were. After that he went to the ground and approached this statue of a boss figure whose feet were taller/bigger than his (the player's) head. Many players were rushing and it took the player many tries to win. At the end, he won and was rewarded 7k dilithium (that I remember specifically) and a bunch of other points, can't say which. Well, for the record, that's all the info I got for now.

150 players and 7k Dilithium doesn't sound real. Can't comment on the rest except to say, like everyone else, I've never heard of it.

The engine can barely handle 50 players let alone 150, even social maps that have no shooting are capped at 50 players.

Dont believe me? Go to Defera Invasion Zone and change instances, you see the cap limits if they are filled or better yet, Risa since its bound to have some instances full.

I thought They changed the cap to 75 a while back??
I guess I lost track at some point.

But yeah... 150 sounds like the friend was playing that game, in somebody's dream.

the only time that sol was defended was when sol earth space station received a face lift and was attacked by everything including the crystal entity.

for verification branflakes talk to d stahl or gecko or developer that has been here from the beginning.

I have seen screen shots of a tribble event on DS9 where they had to fight big Gorn Borg Boss. But it never made it to holodeck.

The cap was/is at 72 or 75 or thereabouts. I think they revised it downwards recently, but I don't think engine strain was the reasoning for this.

The only mission I can think of that sounds like this is 'Shutdown' in the Cardassian Struggle Arc. It, typically, pops up when you approach DS9 at any point after completing 'War Games.'

Though for the longest time I have had an issue where it will pop up moments after I logged in regardless of where I was.

    Mission: Shutdown
