New rewards were mentioned but will you have the Chel Grett return as a reward this winter or some way to obtain it some day?

Stop the speculation people. Its the VOTH! Gecko said once on a podcast he really wanted to do them in game. And look at how that station makes a Galaxy class look like a TOS shuttle. A space adventure zone would make our starships play like the shuttle craft from that well made Romulan mission. And the size of the Voth would make that happen where space maps could look like ground or interior maps.

TNG is my favorite series, but I voted Voyager for that Delta Quadrant expansion and happy to see the majority agree so far.

The Voth have transwarp ability. Maybe they've decided to reclaim Earth and are making their way back home!

I dont understand why Cryptic treats the foundry like the stepchild of the game. Cant they understand it provides story content inbetween the LOOOOOOOONG periods of time we wait for Cryptic to give story content. They are basically telling the players to LEAVE for MONTHS at a time while we wait for their Cryptic stories. Surprisingly people are willing to pay to create content and Cryptic still doesnt give a care about the Foundry. Cryptic's grind is too grindy and just runs players off. And LMFAO at Cryptic thinking THEY can provide the Exploration the players want and not realize and invest in a foundry that can actually provide it.

Well the Voth were not really a "deadly new enemy" in VOY

Concept art looks more Undine - like the stuff the created outside fluid space.

If you look carefully at the concept art, it looks like theta radiation spewing from the side of the ship. It also looks as if the ship or whatever it may me are shooting spatial charges which the Malon are known to use. I'm guessing it's the Malon

    And Enterprise is not bad!

    I loved it!

What has DS9 got that is new , hard and/or interesting species , that the other series's do not. I do not think DS9 were that good on the exploring front.

DS9 opened the Gamma Quadrant, which is basically all under the heel of the Dominion. We might see it if we get a Dominion Faction (which would be AWESOME, and I have an idea how to make it happen). Enterprise, I agree, wasn't THAT bad... but SFDebris disagrees. And it wasn't as well-written as some others. The entire Temporal Cold War arc made no sense. There's really nothing to explore in ENT. It all happened as a TOS prequel. Voyager, on the other hand, explored the Delta Quadrant, and there's a TON of that left to explore. Voyager may not be great (except to me, but I'm a huge Borg fan, so Voyager is my go-to series), but it's better from an exploration perspective. There's simply more they can DO with that series.

agonybooth, that is something I have wanted from the beginning, I cant stand walking around my ship and seeing everyone in the wrong uniform.

It always amazes me how much hatred comes from these forums. It seems that everyone just TRIBBLE about everything. Reading posts on the forums makes me wonder why anyone would play this game. If it is THAT bad, then move along, there are other games you might have fun with, or you can just go ahead and make your own. If you know what everyone wants, what will make everyone happy, why not go out and make this awesome, perfect MMO.

Just my two cents, I know the game isnt perfect and there are issues, but the game is free, good and fun...a very rare combination to say the least.

As much as there are cool things to explore from Voyager, like the Krenim for example. I really want more Enterprise stuff. Xindi, Suliban, maybe even some Temporal Cold War bits...

It was a toss-up for me between ENTERPRISE and TOS...

I figured TOS probably won't get many votes, so I went with that.
    (love being the underdog. :P)

I truly think that ENTERPRISE needs more love in the game though.

ENTERPRISE does have the whole 'Romulan War' yet to deal with and with the current push to try and get Netflix to create a Fifth season of the show, it would be cool to see an up-swing in interest in STO, to coincide with that effort.

Note they said new enemy. We already have the Undine. I say 10:1 it's the Voth.

I just read 'new' enemy as simply 'being introduced to STO.' There was really only 1 deadly enemy in Voyager, and that was Species 8472. So, my money is still on the Undine.

P.S. Borg is kinda deadly too; but not Voyager-specific.

Instead of more new content I would like to see basic things fixed. for example:
-when I move something from inventory to a slot on a ship or anywhere else it should happen instantly, not occasionally take over a minute to complete( this doesn't happen in other mmo's why does it happen in this one)
-the same button should be used for enter on all windows, not F key on some, Enter key on others, and click only on still others.
-there needs to be an option to not have everything be a damn pop up window, everyone hates pop ups, make things clickable instead if that's what we want
-FIX THE HOTBUTTON BAR, I despise having my hot bar fill itself up with buttons I don't want there continuously and every time I zone to the point of considering quitting sto forever, every other mmo has customizable hotbars that remember what buttons are there and what buttons are not, but not STO
-Fix the controller issue, I want to be able to use my controller or joystick to do more than steer, I want to be able to program the buttons to fire torpedoes or check my mail or even "gasp!" have the throttle actually work.

from what I can see, sto is Years behind other mmo's in interface functionality. everquest 2 doesn't have these problems, eve online doesn't have these problems, so why does STO still have them more than 3 years after launch and they never get fixed? get with it guys. time to get your **** together.

Sweet! Wasn't expecting one of these. :D

It sounds like lots of big plans. No mention of the Foundry or PVP, but those are issues for more specific groups and less applicable to the general community. Still I hope you'll still find time on the schedule for those.

Of course those issues are for more specific groups ,after you hide the pvp queue and make no update in 3 years you can expect that is for a specific group.

I'd be really happy with a "Season 8: STO Remastered"

Where instead of all new, we get all bugs addressed instead.

All Enterprise did with 'exploring' was to literally conjure up species out of thin air that were not referenced at all in TOS, TNG, DS9, or Voyager, yet live within 100-200 LY of Earth.

Enterprise was kinda canon-breaking, and just made things more confusing.

Everything is wimpy here. Cloned Jem'Hadar super-soldiers? Borgs? Undine that are so bad-TRIBBLE they even frighten the borg? P'shaw! My band of farmers and refugees with zero military training kill them all by the score

Actually the ESTF ground borg are probably the toughest opponents, the rest just fall down

The Voth for sure would make sense either for wanting to take back Earth or wanting to make sure there is no evidence of the "Distant Origin" theory.

I actually voted for Voyager because of the amount of space there.

Finally, if you guys are sitting around thinking about a new Expansion. While a Cardassian or Dominion Faction would be nice...I personally would vote for a Neo-Collective of Hugh-style Borg or a form of the Collective that formed at the end in the ST:Voyager episode "Unity" could work too.

I'll try to make this sound friendly. But understand if it's a little hard at times.

You wrote a nice "State of the game 2014" there, Dan. Sadly, it doesn't reflect the state of the game -now-. A lot of "will be"s and "could do"s to keep people interested, but not much more than that.

I am glad a lot of players returned, don't get me wrong. But it was very sad to see them leave right away when they got hit by this huge tidal wave of serious bugs - most of them reportedly still being known and unfixed from alpha testing on Tribble.

Half of the most annoying - and for some people most moodkilling - bugs that we face right now still are from Season 7 launch, a few even date back some more seasons. But Legacy launch pretty much only broke the game for the first few weeks. For everyone.

An honest state of the game adress should - no, has to - include the words "we're sorry and we learned from our mistakes, this will not happen again" at this point.

Legacy has brought a lot of things that sure are great for Romulan enthusiasts, that much is right. Me not being one of them, I liked the short ship sale most. Even if I missed it this time, it is a great tool for players that haven't been around since launch to catch up with those that have. Please, more of this sort of thing.

It is with great satisfaction that I look upon the new episodes all factions recieved. The new UI made KDF playable for me and you did a great job telling the new story there, from the early missions that got in to the old ones that now are at the appropriate level.
Somehow doing the same thing with my Romulan didn't feel as good, tho.
Where the KDF char can take his time to combat ancient foes of legend, the Romulan is railroaded by a backseat npc captain and thrown from one pot into the next.
The mission rewards also heavily feature rewards only Escorts can utilize. KDF BoPs love it, but have you ever tried outfitting a D'Deridex with just cannons, because you don't get any beams from your mission rewards? There's no much-needed RCS console in there, either. And on L41, he's still using his only Mk 2 plasma energy weapon tac console because you just can't afford buying them from the exchange. You didn't give Romulans only escorts. Please reconsider rewards to reflect this. Level 30+ gets very very frustrating and I stopped playing him at 41 altogether. I used only Duty Officer Assignments to get from 30 to 40, too, since "the D'Deribrick" as we call it, equipped with escort equipment you get from missions, made space combat impossible.
Romulan gameplay started out great, but then lost its magic rather fast since you don't have a say in the story and only tag along, yet have to do the heavy lifting if you want it or not.
KDF gameplay works really great now - maybe you can compare and find the differences, learn a thing from it.. it really made me like the character, understand the culture a lot more and all. Before, I was totally uninterested in it. The new stuff managed to change my mind completely. Awesome job there.

The Risa event actually is the reason I'm still here. Great job with the map, the accolades really were fun to find out, too... It's hard to find a negative thing actually. There's only one. The event features emote-based competition. Why.. why oh lord must I now witness 40 people throwing an emote every so many seconds. Emotes had an own channel that you could turn off if you got spammed with them like this. Please, PLEASE reinstate that function. Being near the event makes it impossible to be part in conversations at the same time. If you fix that, I'm buying a house right next to the resort hotel. And please replace old boring Risa with this one permanently.. it's GREAT for RP.

New end game missions.. hot topic. While the idea itself is not bad, about half of those we already have are suffering from massive bugs. The Tholian ones you added spawn people inside of walls and/or with BOff away teams. The Borg still shoot invisible 100k+ damage dealing torpedoes at you. 2 Borg Raptors still can obliterate the Kang while being excessively hard to catch and kill. Omega/MACO outfit accolades still are broken so you can't get the rewards for your most loved characters. It would be wise to actually fix before you add. Most of this has been fixed at some point and the fix was undone by the next patch, never to be seen again ingame. Hunt this stuff down for good before throwing more obviously unfinished missions at us like the Tholian ones definately are.
Oh and while you're at it.. fixing the Tau Dewa Red Alerts would be a great idea for players who want to work on their Romulan rep.

Which brings us to the rep systems.. yet another one? Well, if you really must. But for the love of all that is holy, please fix the old ones first. New Romulus still has many things that simply don't work out. Tau Dewa Sector suffers from more bugs than on S7 launch at the moment. Sometimes the sector map itself won't even load. Sector maps that are higher than wide have a broken zoom function. So many things that frustrate you on the old grinds need to be cleared up. You sound as if you just want to abandon them since they didn't work out right. DON'T. Never abandon old stuff. It may be the stuff people love about your game.
Don't forget the Foundry either. Players can build awesome stuff, too - make it accessible. Player limits of 5-20 at the discretion of the map's creator are a thing that won't hurt you and would bring RP back to life for those that have been around for some time and know every map by heart by now.

That being said, we look forward to what's on the horizon.. but beg you to look back, fix and learn, before you dash forward. Find a pace that enables this brilliant game to actually live to see its own future. With us as its players.

And thanks for all the hard work, guys.

    Thanks for the update Cryptic!

Being a Romulan fan, I must say it is simply awesome to finally have a playable Romulan faction! In fact, that is why I came back to the game! With that in mind, (and although I voted to see more DS9 content, as series selection, was all that was available to select) I would suggest a strong focus on getting more factions in game.

Even though I am a Romulan fan, and would love more focus, solely, on the Romulan Republic, ...I would suggest, in order to appeal to more players, getting as many factions in game. Even if, only as mini factions, such as the curent Romulan Republic. Once a couple more factions are in game, then I would go back, start progressing the timeline forward from 2409, and fill out each of the factions to be stand alone, such as each faction having their own fleet starbases.

The two factions I think still think that desperately need to be made into playable factions, would be:

    1) Cardassians,
    2) The Dominion

That would being the total up to 5 factions, which looks good being an odd number, and also is the 5 major powers associated with the various seasons of Star Trek, while leaving the debatable Borg faction to be playable, on the table, for a later date.

One last suggestion, would be to bring in the Ferengi as a mini (mini-mini, if you will) playable faction (yes, I know they are a race option for the Federation, but hear me out (wink)). That is, the faction never advances into a major power, but instead functions more as an advanced mini-game/duty officer type concept. Many options could exist through this, such as each STO player has a Ferengi character to do all their banking and trading transactions. Another idea, or in addition to, would to have the faction have a duty officer system, based on trade, acquisition, bribing, etc, etc which would give minor rewards. There could be several levels, which eventually lead not only to gold pressed latinum trophies, but to say a tier 5 ship that only Ferengi captains can have. The ship might even have a special ability to bribe less honourable captains, to fight along side them...for a price, and in return get more loot! The imagination runs wild with what could be a really fun mini faction, that could be a unique STO experience, similar, but slightly outside of the regular faction play.

I definitely won't be the vaadwaur - they are a few centuries behind in tech and a few hundred people - against the FED+ROM+KDF??? Really - that would be stupid.

The Voth? Why would they suddenly become a "deadly enemy"? From what we saw they we also nomadic like the kazon and hirogen - not building large structures.

The only problem they had with VOY was that they were helping to promote the notion that they came from earth - other than that they were no enemy.

I believe there is plenty of exploration opportunities there: Through the wormhole lies the whole Gamma Quadrant.
