Many moons ago I was banned from DOFFCALLS channel because of a mistell. No telling how many calls I could have made since then.
I don't know how channel banning works and frankly I don't care.
Recently I saw someone castigated (yes its a big word, look it up) for the same reason, and someone else treated likewise for trying to clarify a call.
I hear ya, its not just that channel though. I won't name names but I'd say about 95% of the Global Channels have a nasty demeanor, particularly to newcomers. Such a shame.
Yes, they do tend to be a bit.. zealous.. in enforcing the "no chat in doffcalls" rule, but it's a necessary evil imnsho. CALLS was created so we could actually see the calls and get them on the sheet without having them buried in the general chatter of JOBS - relaxing the CALLS rules risks having the same problem there.
That said, if you really were banned for one slip up, that's rather unfair. No one who can use the word "castigated" in a sentence should be judged so harshly
Doffcalls is a channel used to call out certain high profile/necessary Doff missions.
In the simplist form, you wtach doffcalls (rule is no chatting to keep it from being a endless stream of chat), you see a mission you want/need (Negotiate Additional Deliveries of Rare Commodities for example), you head off to listed sector. A huge saver of time.
However, if you REALLY get in to doffing, there is a whole googledocs spreadsheet (created by zerobang) that allows you to track what assignments you've done, which you need, cooldown times, and so on... quite an amazing tool. Editors of the master page use doffcalls to log which missions are up and available so you can lok at your spreadsheet, and know at a glance that mission you've been waiting on (4 or 6 for X chain) is up and available in ZA.
The most amazing thing, it is completely volunteer work that zero and all the editors put into that.
If you have problems with the ownership of a chat room please take it up with them and not on the forums. All it does is lead to flaming, name calling and so on.
