Grinding for MkIV epic gear?

It's no different than what most people do when they go drinking on the weekend....the only difference is, one's healthy and the other is not.
The weird thing is , to alot of dorks, drinking is cool.........
oh well.

Sure......
And we wonder Why this planet is full of war with such division and ignorance.
I have 20. 8 fed toons and 12 KDF. Going to start a few Rom toons this week. Only play one tac,sci and eng all others sell things on exchange and farm other items of interest. :P
4 RR, 1 fed ally eng and 1 of each allied to the KDF
I like to try different builds and ideas, and when I am done with them I just transfer the assets to another char and park them.
Still, I usually use only two, one Fed and one KDF (ally or otherwise).

I have 12. My secret is in how I don't feel the need to have all 12 get up to the full 8k dil each day.
how in the world can you guys manage more than 1 toons? specially with real life stuff
Honestly, I only really play three or less at any given time and you can level a character to VA in only a few hours, so it is not a huge time commitment. What is a huge time comittment is getting a character fully geared and speced for PvP, with top of the line consoles, all reputation projects complete, et cetera.
I only have two characters who have completed the first two reputation projects (and both are working on Nukara) and only a few of my characters are even trying. Only my first character is maxed out on DOFF catagories.
Even though I have 11 characters, I am probably going to create two more Romulans (one of each class), a Kzinti (ahm, I mean Feasian), and three Cardassians/Borg/whatever new factions they introduce in the future.
I look at it as a long-term commitment. Over the next decade or so, I plan to get all these characters to level cap and some of them with finished reputation.

A good point as well. I usually like playing more characters so that I can play around with different play styles; honestly, I had been planning on buying more character slots until the attachment limits and now exchange posting changes took effect. Now I'm wary of potentially diluting my resources.
That, and doing Reputation across that many characters in somewhat daunting...
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
HavelockVetinari is my first STO character. Created when I joined the game in Feb 2010 (about 3wks after launch). Human male, Fed, Tac. Flies a Fleet Excel (A2B Plasma Beam Boat). He's L50, of course. All gear is at least Mk XII Very Rare. He's completed all Reps, DOff Commendations, and Crafting Branches. Has a 15,310 Accolade score, has a full Purple DOffs Roster (well I have Blues that are "collected", but not played). All Tribbles and Epohhs bred, and I have 9/14 Risian Birds and 12/16 Khellids (working to get the others of each). Basically if there's something to do/get in this game, I do it with this toon first.
Secondaries Alts These five characters I play fairly regularly, at least getting some maintenance play (STF, CE, or Tagging for Reps) 2-3 times a week. All are L50, have at least Mk XII Very Rare gear, and all but one have Romulan/Omega Reps done, and working on Nukara (not sure if I'll go past L4 on all of them, but probably yes, eventually). DOffing is maxed (or very nearly) with all Purple/Blue crew.
Tu'rook: Liberated Borg Klingon male, KDF, Eng. Flies an "assimilated" Negh'Var (Assimilated Gear with full visuals). As my main KDF I try to do everything on him as well.
Tertiary Characters
These six characters get maybe a log-on a week. They are L50, have Rare Mk XI or better gear, and could be said to working on their Reps and Commendations, but a glacial speeds. Still, their DOff Roster is going to be mostly all blue.
Vogu: Alien male, Fed, Eng, Mirror Universe Star Cruiser, Sovereign Variant.
T'Varela: Romulan female, RR-Fed, Sci, Ha'nom Guardian Warbird (Undecided which VA ship she's going to select from my LoR pack).
Greebo: Catian male, Fed, KDF, Defiant - Retrofit (working on getting a Risian Corvette).
Sulok: Vulcan male, Fed, Sci, D'Kyr (All Vulcan BOs, and about 70% Blue+ Vulcan DOffs, working on "all" Vulcan crew).
"And all the rest..."
These eleven toons are a hodge podge of tests, alts made for fun or try a race, theme or idea, etc. Some might have old Emblem gear (Very Rare Mk XI), some aren't even combat ready. They rarely get used. I don't expect to ever complete Reps/Commendations (most haven't even started them). Some are not L50 yet.
Alexa Halleck: Alien female, Fed, Eng, Chimera.
Khren Ch'Shona: Andorian male, Fed, Tac, ??, L39
Rachel: Joined Trill female, Fed, Tac, Prometheus Advanced Escort
Holy fava beans, Batman! It's not that you have 37 Captains across 5x accounts, it's that three of those are LTS! Wow! I'm not sure if I'm concerned, impressed, or just jealous. lol
P.S. To those commenting on the vernacular, I've always preferred the term toon. I actually also like the term alt, but I like the childish "playtime" connotation and happy thoughts I get thinking of cartoons when I use toon. Also, both are easier to say (and type) than character. I dislike the term mule.
You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.
I killed off all my farming alts yesterday in protest of the inevitable Arc ultimatum. Probably won't actually accomplish anything, but it was quite cathartic.
I have five characters, but don't really play all of then all that much.
Fed tac (main)
Fed sci (almost never play, but did make it to 50 and grinded the original rep. Not doing nukara tho)
Fed eng (lvl 31 never play)
Kdf tac (my secondary main in the middle of nukara rep)
Fed aligned Reman tac (also in the middle of doing rep, long and annoying)
Only the three tac officers get any play time. Honestly, I feel overwhelmed with three. Not sure how people can keep up with more then that.
8 total with 2 free spots for more. 3 Fed, 3 KDF, 2 Rom. All except one Rom are 50, remaining one is 14 and will probably stay that way until Cryptic fixes the bug that turns female aliens into Romulans.
I have three Level 50 toons, Fed (Sci), KDF (Tac) and Rom (Tac) how anyone manages more than 3 toons is beyond me, I feel my life slipping away with just the three toons. My poor PS3 feels neglected

Yeah, I don't usually do everything you could do on each char each day. I do whatever I feel like then switch.
I have nine level 50 characters, 7 feds and 2 kdfs. I split them into "tiers"
Tier 1: 2 characters with pretty much the absolute best possible lockbox/fleet ship, gear, boffs, doffs that dilithium can buy.
Tier 2: 2 characters with c-store/lockbox ship, some of the best gear but can still be further improved upon.
Tier 3: 2 characters with a mix of reputation and exchange bought gear. To save on gear upgrades, one is using the Vesta with aux DHCs, the other is using the winter event Chel Grett with Breen/Defera mission reward gear.
Tier 4: 3 characters with free/special event ships only exchange bought gear. They haven't completed any of the reputations, I simply don't have the time or resources to work on them.

God Bless ya son.
2 of each playable faction, 2 of each profession.
Outside of my main though, they're mostly Dili farmers with 4 of them are at the level cap.
7 feds, 2 of each plus my Fed main, an engineer.
6 KDF, 2 of each
4 RR, 1 fed ally eng and 1 of each allied to the KDF
I like to try different builds and ideas, and when I am done with them I just transfer the assets to another char and park them.

My character Tsin'xing
6 level 50 Feds
1 Rom/Fed level 50
5 level 50 KDF
1 Rom/KDF level 49
10 are T5 Rom and Omega
3 of these are T5 Nukara and 3 are T4 Nukara
and 1 at T4 Nukara, Omega and Rom
Everyone else is gathering marks for whatever reputation system/s they will soon be starting.
KDF Tac B'rel, Tor'kaht
KDF Sci Chel Grett, Mirror VoQ
KDF Eng Fleet Neghvar, Mirror Vor'cha
Fed Tac Kumari, Fleet Defiant
Fed Sci Khyzon, Fleet Nova
Fed Eng Galor
Rom Tac Fleet Mogai
going
to
happen
Qor'aS: Klingon tactical officer
Xriviss: Gorn science officer
Khir'llieu: Romulan tactical officer (KDF)
Garadex: Reman science officer (KDF)
Dumar: Cardassian engineer (Fed)
Naraan: Andorian tactical officer (Fed)
My 2 Feds are collecting dust since I never really liked the blue side. Don't know why exactly but I juyst find it boring. Probably my playstyle.
My main was Qor'aS since Day 1 but I have now switched to Khir'llieu since I had always wanted to create a Romulan character.
