I bought the bortasq pack the day it was released. Hated it.
Complained about it.
Whined about it.
Even before it was released I and everyone who tested it complained about it on tribble.
I really thought cryptic would fix it.
But for a year I would return to it with a new idea every month or so. I haven't tried it in a long while.
I recently have been wanting to return to it.
Is there a dps build for engineers and beams?
It a good build a khg set, Borg , rom, tholian rep weapon load out?
I hate the fact that not only is the last c store kdf ship. The only kdf c store 3 pack the kdf will ever get. But the worst kdf ship has ever received (worst functional not visual)
And that cryptic wont fix it because it is working as intended and according to cryptic, not worth investing in.
So I have to wonder: am I missing something?
What is a good dps beam build?
Use double DEM with Marion, BFAW, fill other skills for shield an hull heals Use Full !(Borg shield is awesome reg shield) borg set run max weapons, rest in aux and use A->S Aux warpcore
Use disruptors/antiproton 7 single and 1 borg KCB.
Run only Command Bort, great benefit from sensor analysis and shield power.
That is basics how i fly it and it is unbeatable by any pve and elite enemy. For pvp switch borg shield for elite fleet one.
Basicly it is huge shield and hull regen build with good aux power to constant use for aux2sif3 and HE for hull heals +resists and EptS + tss for shield heal and shield resists. Rest comes from Bfaw2 or single target beaming with sensor analysis. It is great damage tank for Tac, for Eng captain it will do less damage so you can play with switching uni lt com from eng to tac and use single dem1/2.
Its expensive though. Doffs are 3x Purple technicans. 1x Energy Weapons Officer(adds to shield power), Conn Officer(+Perception and Accuracy).
I was recently running the the disruptor cannon console but decided to ditch it for the Tachyokenitic Converter. The cannons are cool, but the recharge time sucks big time. Also, I didn't like being stuck with disruptors when the Romulan Plasma is better and I've unlocked it. So I switched it up and now my DPS over time has gone up substantially....I think. Haven't parsed it yet. Might do that tonight and post some numbers.
I have sacrificed some tankability for the Aux2bat build, but it allows me to keep my boff powers up almost 100% of the time. Constantly spitting out scatter volley and Torpedo Spread 3 is great.
Also, my turn rate is 14.7 with the engine power boost given by Aux2bat. Thats with the RSC12 purple, Converter, Helmsman Trait, and fleet engine with a [turn]x3 mod.
My Cat is an engineer and has gone for Crits to make up for Tac OPness, the Bort is an amazing ship that does awesome damage in both PvE and STF, the autocannon makes me weep tears of joy (well not quite but gotta lover the hyperbole).
Forget beams, use DHCs, learn how to swing round 180 deg with Evasive and Emp2E and use the snare with tractor for auto cannon. I often come first in CE and have no trouble holding my own (ooer) in PvP.
It is a far better ship IMO than the emasculated Fed Oddy which was released at the same time.
Listen to this guy; the Borty can be a lot of fun when you fly it like a dreadnought battlecruiser. If you get used to hauling it around, you can do some pretty wicked things with it. Fun, too.

Any bone would be nice.
The Bortasqu' can be incredibly powerful if you use the Tactical one, do not strap it with an Engineer and are not trying to use Fail at Will Broadside Tactics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA8yQZ15Sjw Is a great example of a proper setup.
I've been using again the TAC Bortasqu' off and on with a KDF ENG & another TAC character. This is for both PVE & PVP purposes. You can make it hit considerably hard with a TAC, but the ENG will make it tough and help in putting high power levels across the board for prolonged periods.
The general idea for me is the Beamboat. I go all 8 beam arrays. I know there are suggestions to do 3x3 beams with torps or whatever that will help in the power drain. But I elected to go all 8 for stronger broadsides, and in those cases, Weapon Batteries, EPS Power Transfer, Red Matter Capacitor, and of course, Plasmonic Leech help in high power requirements at any given time. If the target is not in a broadside arc, then 4 beam arrays hitting are better than just 3. I dropped any skillpoints related to projectiles in favor of energy. Anyways, one of the very simple Beamboat builds:
Weapons (Fwd/Aft): Currently 8 Advanced Antiproton Beam Arrays. If I could, I would do Fleet Elite Disruptor Arrays, but my fleet cannot access them. My next favored would be Spiral Disruptors. Deflector: Omega Deflector Engine: Omega Engine Shields: Adapted KHG - Prefer Elite Fleet Resilient Shields, but access is an issue for my fleet. Devices: Red Matter Capacitor, Shield Batteries, Weapon Batteries, Subspace Field Modulator ENG Consoles: Neutronium Armor, Tachyokinetic Converter, Assimilated Module, Plasmonic Leech SCI Console: Field Generator TAC Consoles: Antiproton MAG Regulator x5
LtCdr Universal (TAC): Tactical Team 1, Beam Overload 2, Attack Pattern Omega 1 Lt TAC: Tactical Team 1, Fire At Will 2 Lt SCI: Polarize Hull 1, Hazard Emitters 2 or sometimes Hazard Emitters 1, Transfer Shield Strength 2. Ens Universal (ENG): Emergency Power to Shields 1 Cmdr ENG: Emergency Power to Shields 1, Engineering Team 2**, Emergency Power to Weapons 3, Directed Energy Modulation 3
**: Sometimes substitute ET2 with RSP or ASIF1
I elected not to go Aux2Batt, though A2B does have its benefits as well as drawbacks. I wanted the reassurance that Aux Power will be available in decent strength at any given time, and the skills that benefit from hit. With an ENG captain, power was good all around for most of the match. Emergency Power to Shields 1 x2 was sufficient in keeping up shields, or at least enough to absorb enough damage.
Emergency Power to Weapons 3 boosted with Directed Energy Modulation 3 was a very nice boost to damage, and damage getting through shields. Devices and EPS Power Transfer ability help in putting more power to weapons when you really wanted it to hurt.
Of course, the traited Miracle Worker is very nice in keeping the ship's strength up in hull and shield points.
In PVE, unless I get whacked by a cheesey Borg Invisitorp, I never go down. In PVP, my ENG in the TAC Bortasqu' can do decently in wearing a target down and be stubborn enough to tangle with multiple opponents (depending of course the opposing team quality).
It's important for the Bortasqu' to be strong enough in defense because I find myself drawing initial fire very frequently. This ship can do that, esp. with an ENG captain. Yet it's also very important to do enough damage that it's hard to ignore you, and have abilities that can be used on teammates to help them out (throwing out Eng Team, Hazard Emitters, Transfer Shield Strength, for example). The ship, I'd like to believe, presents a dilemma. It takes work to bring it down, yet it frees up friendly BOPs & Escorts to do their job. I also have basic abilities to help these friends out, but still nowhere near like a high dual ENG BOFF station cruiser. But if they ignore me, it frees me up to throw out basic support abilities, or better yet, throw on Emergency Power to Weapons 3 + DEM3, and pour alot of firepower to add pressure.
I opted for the Omega equipment for the 2 piece bonus. The OMEGA Deflector I like due to the targetting benefit. A very safe alternative is Borg 2 piece with Adapted KHG / Elite Fleet Shields. Sometimes I've gone with the full 3 piee Borg set, and it works out.
She ship works out for me. I'm not saying I sweep the floor with Feds, but the ship is stubborn enough and does enough damage to make a difference.
This for pve or pvp use? I have no idea on the hour long video above, other than fitting a bunch of junk set consoles and rocking DBB + turrets, which while more effective than most would think, is not exactly what I would call the best setup for dps in a bortas.
For PVE, I don't think an A2B, full rom plasma beam setup with the 3 crit consoles, leech/nukara beam accuracy, embassy [pla] tag, and 5 plasma tac consoles can be topped in this ship. APB2, FAW2, EPTW/S, DEM3 w/ Marion, Dylrene for STFs, proper positioning/power sliding, and you're in the rarefied Kumari/Scimi/Bortasqu all the damage numbers. For beam boats, only the Scimi is going to top it thanks to all the boff trait love the romulans got. With an engineer you won't have the same peaks but still quality numbers.
And fit the cutting beam warmakeroo1b. The 2pc borg proc more than makes up for the individual damage loss of the 8th standard beam
I understand the entire reason behind the canon/turret build but it is exhausting.
I really want a DPS beam/torp ship.
The above youtube video is pretty close to what I want.
The pet isn't as good because you don't have the control of it as you would with any other ship. I think cryptic realized that and that is why the scimitar has a real pet rather than a oddy/bortasq-like pet.
Also, there is a new pet mechanic coming out that will help with the healing of the pet.

This is an excellent setup, I have just been using similar setups after talking with eardianm in game and its working great for me on a Bortasqu and Scimitar and doing better DPS then when I use DHC on it. Since FAW has been fixed with the right setup to mitigate power drain and increase weapon power, FAW spam beamboats can do better pve dps, and sometimes needed in pvp now for spam clearing.
I still use DHC on my Bort for better burst damage in pvp, and if I am with low dps group in pve I find I like bursting targets down individually rather then FAW spamming and aggroing everything, but if your group is taking down spheres and what not at a decent rate the FAW spam works great.
I recomend both DHC and beams if you can afford the setup for both and can handle using it with DHC, then switch to whats appropriate, I just keep a full extra set of embassy boffs on me to switch on the fly. But if you can only do 1 go with the beams first.
X2 adv fl dhc-disr quad cannons-omega plasma torp

x5 disr ind coils
Seems like thats going to pop a lot in pvp and you will have trouble manuvering with DHC in pve and pvp with this build, it will be especially vulnerable to transphasics and clusters you see everywhere.
Here is my DHC setup, it is great in pvp and does good dps in pve though not as much as the FAW setup, but needs expensive purple doffs to work although you can get by with blues if needed.
TT1- CRF1- APO1 (both tacs should be rare male embassy boffs)
TT1- CRF1
EPTE1-Aux2Struc 1 or Aux2ID1, EPTS3, DEM3
HE1, TSS2
Tractor beam 1
4 disruptor DHC with 1 or 2 acc and rest crit mods
3 disruptor turrets, 1 CB
I haven't flown with any high end stuff yet, but I have tried both a beam broadsider and a DHC build.
I understand why torps have no business on a beam boat, but what of a forward firing build? I see builds with and without. Is it a preference thing? Or is there something decisively better?
Perhaps with fewer tac abilities on the bridge balancing cannons, patterns, and torpedo skills is tricky. Though the bonus from the rom set and the honor guard set does make a hyper plasma very tempting if one was going full on plasma.
What of antiprotons? It seems their bonus along with the natural DHC modifier would work hand in hand, especially if you front load on them without a torp.

Not at all,i dont have any maneuver troubles since i learned how to pilot this ship.the borg set and the tachyokinetic converter gives me a decent speed and turn rate. Talking abou crit i have 8.9 on my stats and a hull of 61.940. Add to this a few hull abilities and thats it,th
Is monster is a rock trust me. Notice that i have several shield abilities, the bortas needs shelds above all. I find power to engines, dampeners and hazard enitters useless. So resuming i can handle stfs with my eyes almost closed and on pvp i have an average of 600 000 dps taking down over 12 feds on every run.we can do a 1vs 1 someday
Would be a nice heavyweight fight.peace out and sorry for my gramatic,im on a cell phone and sucks:mad:
