I am sure many already know this, but for those who don't the reactive shielding adapts to energy weapons, and applies a stackable [ up to 5X ] damage reduction for that energy type directly to your hull defense. Now this can be confusing do to the fact I, and others may have thought it directly added damage reduction to the shields, like the MACO shield array has an innate damage mitigation. Don't get me wrong, the added hull defense is nice because of the Aegis shield array's 10% bleed thru, but at the same time it simply makes the Aegis shield array just a simple shield array, and only needed to get the 3pc. set effects.
This set is a leveling set usable at level 40. It should not be allowed in eSTF's..unfortunelty I see people every where with , usually being blown up in eSTF's. Get MACO or Adapted and live happily ever after.

I have absolutely no problems using it in ESTF's, it has proven useful in all areas of missions I have played, and is still in use today for me.

LOLWUT!? I seem to have no problem tanking the tactical cubes using a three piece Aegis set in my Mirror Sovvy, never lose the threat either, so maybe it is the player and not the set? I really like the set for PvE so I want to know whatever kinda crack you are on dude.
Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it. - Bubba

But...eSTFs are precisely the best way to grind the marks needed for those sets. That's why subpar gear will continue to be used in the meantime.

What a crock. It works fine in elites tho it requires more maintenance and thought on ship perks, but when you know what your doing you don't need 'I win' Rep equipment.

This response was so chock full of nougaty win I thank you.

Gear quality is the least important thing in STO. Youcan get 10k+ DPS with green-quality equipment. Playstyle- the tactics and abilities you use- are almost the only thing that matters.
Aegis isn't the best set in the game, but come on.

How about we just ban you from all content instead?
Aegis set is fine. It even has some pretty good stats that even the Omega sets lack....
Yes, the reactive shielding only affects the hull and not the shields like the description leads you to believe.

Hahahaha.
Nonsense. The build is so much more than your shield, the shield you're using has such a nominal affect on survivability compared to boff layout.
Hell, my new Romulan is using a standard Covariant XII blue (capx2) since I got it to L50, and I haven't bothered changing it because I like my setup. It's damn powerful (about 14k DPS) and pretty tanky, the only reason I'm bothering with the grind is for the assimilated borg engines+deflector for NWS.
STFs can be done fine, and extremely well, with vendor gear. Piloting and boff layout is much more important.

No. The description doesn't mislead. Cryptic's description uses of damage resistance is consistent through their gear and abilities. "Damage Resistance" always refers to hull damage resistance. "Shield Damage Resistance" refers to just that.

Agreed.
WHile I plan to get my ROmulan out of this set once I've built up the capitol for a shipwide end game upgrade, Aegis provides a significant boost over Exchange items and it also helps that I don't fly like a loon.
I know what my ship can do, I know what I can get out of it. Aegis works just fine in ESTF.
I regularly get jucy rewards in my Scimitar with my full Aeigis set. Plus it looks amazing on a Scimitar.
Ill second this..
I love the aegis set and still use it now after all this time. Each set has their own little quirks, and i regularly switch between the Aegis and MACO. Its also a bonus like rustiswordz pointed out, that it looks amazing, in my opinion the best looking set in-game.

Yeah I know, but new people will be miss lead just like the OP.
I'm of the frame of mind the Aegis Set needs love in its stats. The one thing that was its claim to fame was the adaptable resists, but Fleet Shields have that perk on top of all kinds of other boosts.

Corvalle's experience with crappy Aegis performance on STFs is probably because it looks pretty, and is therefore popular with players that don't actually know how to build or play their charcters.

Cryptic keeps talking about improving crafting, possibly by tying it to reputation, so I'd expect any improved Aegis set to be part of that.
If the reactive shielding was for the shields no-one would ever pierce the aegis set. I run aegis on 2 characters, it's a lot of fun long as you got 125+ power to the shields and have drain defense to keep the shield up. Double tac team if you can fit it.. without engineer rotate shield frequency you'll never see the potential aegis has to offer.
Lyndon Brewer: 20% chance to capture enemy ship for 60 seconds on successful use of boarding party.
I roll the set on my fed engineer and my kdf tac thru everything. Works great! I have the assimilated set and the other ones for a while but this set works best for me. I run them as a full set. But like with any set try it and see if it compliments your setup and your style. It's just one piece of your overall layout.
